Shuukan Pokemon Housoukyoku Episode 018: "Kasumi! Get the Blue Badge!"
Pokemon Chronicles Episode 09: "The Blue Badge of Courage"

Toonami UK, 4:30pm and 7:00pm
Misty runs out of badges to award Sakura (the Espeon trainer from Johto), so she must make her own. However, creating official Gym Badges isn't as easy as one would think!

In Japan, this episode aired between the Pokemon Advanced episodes "All Things Bright and Beautfily" and "All in a Day's Wurmple."

Post your thoughts about the episode here. Please mark any spoilers for episodes not that have yet to air in America in spoiler tags.

The bit before the title card is after it for some reason.

Somehow, I don't see Misty's sisters doing all that work.

There are definately Orangeshipping hints in episode. Compare to the lack of Pokéshipping hints, and Misty seems to have given up on Ash.

Hmm...Somehow, I don't see Misty's sisters doing all that work.

And..."Orange Island" is not singular!

Yeah, she keeps her name, though I think her voice is slightly different. It's probably because Misty recognises Sakura, so 4Kids knew the character had appeared before. (A scene that was cut out of the dub even shows them together in Ecruteak City.)

Part Two

Wow. It's not Team Rocket causing trouble for once.

Sigh. Why do they always give Psyduck a headache? Even Ash wouldn't be stupid enough to do that...oh wait, yes he is!

I wonder how many challenges the Gyms get, since this is Misty's first badge battle since she arrived.

Did anyone spot which badges Sakura has? I think she had Chuck's badge, but I didn't catch theother two.

Maybe I hallucinated it.....but didn't the crooks have a gun in the roginal. They never used it, but I thought they had one...

Umbreon > Espeon

This was a good chronicles episode. Interesting to see Sakura back along with da Trace. The ending battle for the Cascade badge was short but sweet, and I wasn't really suprised that she lost. A one on one battle would require your strongest pokémon, so I was quite suprised she didn't use Gyarados instead.

All voices were kept in this episode, including both Sakura and Daisy. Can't speak for time cuts but it seemed an error free dub episode.

What purpose did running around the block and smashing up wood have anything to do with making gym badges?

Yeah I do wonder now since Psyduck is a sucky swimmer how it will ever make for a good pokémon in that gym lol.

Yeah Zephyr badge (Faulkner), Hive Badge (Bugsy) and a Storm badge (Chuck) I believe.

Does it seem odd to anyone besides me that she has three Johto badges, yet she's currently going after a Kanto badge?

(I haven't actually seen the ep)

The only trouble with time cuts is that they probably won't be restored in the DVD. But nothing major was cut, so I have no complaints.

Well, except that one error anyway. Orange Island is not a place. It's the Orange Islands. I guess her memory was clouded by love. :)

The wood was in the fire. The constant running up the mountain didn't seem to add anything except humour.

Cerulean City is near Johto, (sort of,) so it is likely that she specifically travelled there to see Misty. Though the fact that one of her badges is as West of Johto as you can go, it seems weird... Still, Faulkner and Bugsy makes sense since they are on the way to Kanto.

This is one of the rare episodes that goes into the "behind the scenes" stuff we don't often see, and I like that. Another one would be the Japanese referee episode in the main series. It's always interesting to see things that have never been dealt with before, such as where badges come from and what's involved in being an official battle referee.

Surprised nobody mentioned that when Misty was introducing Tracey to Sakura, Misty said that Tracey has "been assisting Professor Oak the last few years" since being with them in the Orange Islands. (Italics mine.) One of the rare mentions of passing time in the anime.

Was that said in the Japanese version as well?

*yanks Murg away from whatever he's doing and brings him here*

Well, I'm no Murg, but the dialogue was simple enough for even me to understand:

Kasumi: "This is Kenji."
Sakura: "Is he your boyfriend...?"
Kasumi: "Oh no, you're mistaken. When Satoshi was in the Orange Islands, Kenji travelled together with him. Now he acts as Orchid-Hakase's assistant."
Sakura: "Eh!? THE famous Orchid-Hakase!?"

etc., etc.

So I guess not. But if even 4Kids acknowledges the passing of time, that's much better than nothing.

Yeah, but this is Chronicles!

I notice Kasumi remembers that there was more than one island in trhe Orange Region!

Heh, I still find it funny that the first thing Sakura asks when Misty introduces Tracey is, "Is he your boyfriend?"

Lol, Sakura is a real nosy girl, isn't she?
