Shuukan Pokemon Housoukyoku Episode 16: "Pokémon Researcher Gary & the revived Aerodactyl"
Pokemon Chronicles Episode 15: "Putting the Air Back in Aerodactyl"

anmyag.jpg

Toonami UK, 4:30pm and 7:00pm
Professor Oak and Tracey visit Gary, who is researching something special. It turns out to be the revival of an Aerodactyl, which Cassidy and Butch(er) are keen to get for Professor Nanba. Cue a 'getting Pokémon to trust humans' episode.

In Japan, this episode aired between the Pokemon Advanced Challenge episodes "Go Go Ludicolo" and "A Double Dilemma".
It will be released on DVD, with all prior episodes from "Cerulean Blue" on monday.

Post your thoughts about the episode here. Please mark any spoilers for episodes not that have yet to air in America in spoiler tags.

Yeah this episode was great, one of the best chronicles episodes so far if not the best. Gary played the good guy throughout the episode and he suited it quite well. His battle with Team Rocket was cool for the fact his Umbreon was kicking *** pretty much the whole time.

Butch's name was prounonced Butcher by Professor Oak on the first occasion and Bip by the little girl on the second occasion, talk about lack of consistency.

Glad no real slip ups by 4kids here, all voices were kept as the same as they've always been throughout the series. Good job I enjoyed that :smokin:

A minor naming issue that I have noticed...In the whole series Delia is never referred to by her first name. It is always "Mrs. Ketchum" or "Ash's mum". When Tracey is talking to her, it is politeness. But you don't have to be an Eldershipper to expect Professor Oak to see her as more than "Ash's mum".

Professor Nanba has had another reference. He seems to be important in Team Rocket. It's just a shame that he doesn't tend to get very far. Honestly, Ash's constant blasting off of Jessie/James is nothing to what Butch and Cassidy have been through recently.

Did 4Kids speed up Tracey sketching or something? Because there is no way he could do it that fast in real life!

We get to hear a little more about Professor Oak's Pokémon Journey, which was a nice touch.

Ah, Gary. Same voice, same name, same Gary. It just seems weird that he is a Pokémon Professor now. Especially considering his age.

And the Old Amber is mentined with name intact. A little more detail about how Gary got it would have been nice, but I'm aware that they had a set time so I'm not complaining.

Wait a minute...Crystal?!? Was that name in the original?

She's useful, though. Why she was initially sent to safety when she clearly ends up doing the most work is a mystery.
Here's some pictures of her:

I also notice they sneaked in an acceptance moral for Gary.

Professor Oak talks about large Pokémon being friendly, and uses two Pokémon as an example: Onix and Pikachu. Look 4Kids, Pikachu may be the mascot, and it may be getting ignored in Chronicles, but a Pikachu can in no way be compared to the size of an Onix or Aerodactyl! In fact, it is more like the size Butch(er) and Cassidy initially thought it was. ie, not valid. Why not just use Wailord? (Why turn a rice ball into a sandwhich, I guess.)

Butch(er) and Cassidy have the greatest motto ever in this episode!

Dodge and Counter with Tackle? Gary may want to spend a little more time as a trainer...

Was there anything beween Tracey and Crystal in the original, because I notice a small section was cut out of the end that looks a bit shippy.

And rather than show the "To be continued", the narrator blathers on about something vaguely relevant at the end. It figures.

I have seen only japanese version, and his sketching WAS very fast. I think it wasn't sketching - he was moving his pencil, and picture was showing up ;-)

This actually was a very good episode. Seeing Gary again was nice and the characters du jours seemed good. I really liked Crystal and would have liked to see atleast a bit more of Lapras.

They're called Poke Balls Team Rocket. Oy, Cassidy and Butch have been reduced to the level of Jessie and James. Can't these writers make a capable villian?

And what's with a fruit? Aerodactyl is carnivorous. It eats MEAT. Though throwing a annoying little girl (as much as I would have loved it) to it for lunch would never happen.

I thought Pteradactyls in real life were Herbivorous....

Anyway, Tracey sounded odd saying the title...

Also, Gary will probably sound like this when he appears again in the dub, since his VA is with PUSA now.

Look at the teeth, it's a carnivore. Right before they mentioned fruit I was thinking they were gonna say like it likes to eat Fafetch'd, even though we all know that's never going to happen.

Gary's speech about reviving Aerodactyl sounded suspiciously (to me, at least) like Ian Malcolm's warning in Jurassic Park: "Yeah, your scientists did this because they could, but they didn't stop to think if they should."

Agreed. I really forgot about Gary until we saw him in Rivals Forever, then I realized how cool he was.

He called her Delia in the second movie, and in "The Right Place At/And The Right Mime" I think....

I loved this episode. Lots of cute moments for everybody. I wonder if that pseudo-Eldershippy bit in the beginning was dub-added, I'd love to know the original dialogue.... ('cause I don't know any guys who go out and buy candy for their female friends on a whim....)

Professor Oak looks suprisingly good in lavender... powder blue... whatever shade that is. ;p

(Even so, I hope he doesn't go all FR/LG and put on a purple shirt under his labcoat. That'd just be weird. '>>)

The bit with the fruit was kinda weird. >>;; And how, exactly, did they get Aerodactyl DNA from old amber anyway? If it's like in Jurassic Park, I didn't see any mosquitos in it....

I was soo glad to hear Gary's energenic voice again! It was like a flashback.

Yeah, I actually drew a mean lil rant about Arodactyl eating the lil girl's lapras, since I always loved arodactyl as a carnivore rather than a plant eater.

Good episode!:-) plus I got to see and Ivysaur again(yay!)

No, it wasn't dub added. He mentioned Delia in the Japanese version too (or more specifically "Satoshi no mama-san").

I was talking about Pokémon Chronicles, not the main series. (And, not that it matters, but the latter still hasn't aired over here.)

That's a direct game reference so you'd have to take it up with PUSA or Game Freak.

Okay.... She's appeared in what, two episodes though? The "Butch/Cassidy steal Pokemon from the lab" one and this one.

In the game, they didn't have crystal-clear pics of it.... There are fish and worms in the Pokemon world, why not mosquitos? Of course I assumed that in the game the DNA wouldn't come from amber itself (unless they want to "revive" tree sap. XP)

.... Cruuud. Journey to the Starting Line is on my brain because I just watched it, sorry. I meant the Butch/Cassidy steal Pokemon one and Journey to the Starting Line.
