Human careers - Why so Pokemon themed?

It seems like nearly everyone in the Pokemon world has a Pokemon themed career. They'll own a poke-themed industry, or be a trainer, or a breeder, or make Pokemon art, or whatever? It seems like there are no accountants or garbage men, or anything (or they use an Alakazam to run the numbers and a Makuhita to do the physical labor). Also, how does Ash have the cash to travel around for years? In the games you get money for winning every battle, but he certainly doesn't. How the heck does their society function?

The easy answer is, "The show is about Pokémon."

But you raise valid points.

Well, in the games we see Pokémon doing some jobs humans would normally have (ex. the Machop leveling the ground for construction). But yeah, since the show is about pokémon, it would make sense that the world kind of revolves around them. It makes things a little more concentrated for the target audience of kids.

Thanks on bringing up the Ash thing. XD I've always wondered how he got all the money for food, supplies, and traveling fees. I've seen some more than inventive fanfics on that subject, though... most of which disturbing.

Eh, it's more about who Satoshi bumps into, really. He doesn't hang out in big cities along with people with boring "normal" jobs, and a lot of physical labour in the Pokemon world is being done by pokemon since that's more convenient. Plus, we DO see plenty of shopkeepers, restaurant owners and such. What kind of non-pokemon related professions are we missing, really?

that's right!! we often see TR starving because they don't have enough money, but never ash!
(by the way, it seems that brock has got around a ton of pokemon food in his small backpack)

and does ash make some laundry sometimes?

I swear we've seen the group having clotheslines near their current camp a couple times, so I'd assume so. Pokemon Centers probably have free laundromats as well.

"Gone Corphisin'" is one example of them doing laundry. And I agree on Pokemon Centers having thier own laundromats too.

alright then, but remains the problem of ash's cash ... and it looks like they don't travel with many stuff... i mean, each one has only a small backpack. But I guess it would'nt be great if they were all carrying huge camping bags...

Duh. Off screen, after the show as the characters are walking away and waving, Ash turns around and unleashes his Pokemon on the character of the day. When the character's unconscious, Ash takes his wallet. Simple.

Or perhaps the most obvious explanation is that Pokemon centers don't charge trainers to eat/sleep/do laundry, and they give free food to trainers who won't come across another center for a few days. They also give out free potions and other curative items.

No. This is the simplest explanation.

I guess since most resouces (heat, electricity, food, metal) are provided by Pokemon, the Pokeworld doesn't rely on money as much as the real world.

No. This is the simplest explanation.

Simplest, maybe. Funniest, damn right. But I doubt Ash would do that. It would explain why most characters are never seen again, and it could be why Nando disappeared off the face of the earth.

Exactly. Ash pounds on them, puts them in a bag, and throws them in a lake. Simple!

And when Ash finds a worthy opponent to be a recurring character, he doesn't do that awful stuff.

LOVE IT!

As amusing as these answers are, I'd like to propose a more serious answer - the Pokemon League probably makes hella money. Not trying to sound materialistic, but the ticket-sales to various events (Pokemon League Competitions, Exhibition Battles, Championship Battles) and merchandise probably provide plenty of money. Given that most trainers are young and don't require much money, it's not completely unrealistic to think that a portion of this money is used to fund trainers - they probably don't make alot, but they don't really need to either.

I do believe that more typical jobs do exist within the Pokemon Universe - and, heck, we know they do thanks to characters like Timmy's - the Phantom Coordinator - mother and Jeremy, the Salaryman. They just exist off-stage since the anime has no reason to display them.

Yeah.

I always assume that the Trainers licensed under the Pokemon League get certain things for free, such as food, or going to pokemon centers..
