You know I had to do it.

All jokes aside this episode was... kinda meh to me? Roy takes another L in this episode, but hey third time's the charm as they say. Ryme rapping also there, and for someone whose goal ultimately involves battling.. at least he knocked out a Pokemon. I dunno, this episode didn't really hit the feels for me. But MOISTCRITIKAL INTRODUCTION WOOOO

Overall: 6/10

I feel like this episode was had a lot of wasted potential. Idk why anyone thought it was a good idea to spend the vast majority of the episode with random stuff leading up to the battle, instead of the battle itself. They could have reintroduced Nemona without stupid Terapagos getting into trouble yet again. They could have just had Ryme at her gym and let Roy face her and her gym assistant back to back instead of having an unnecessary gap in between them. But I don't want to waste time ranting about that because it's pointless. But my issue with all of this is that it took away time from the gym battle which should have been the main focus.

The gym battle was just way too rushed. Killowattrel's gym battle debut was no better than Tinkatink's, which is a shame since we barely see him anyway. I had no issue with him losing, but going down as quickly as he did was so unnecessary. Then Fuecoco was able to easily defeat Hounstone despite it barely taking any damage from Kilowattrel? What is going on? Fuecoco originally struggled to defeat Pokémon he had a type advantage against, so I'm happy to see his progress, don't get me wrong. But it would have been so much better if the battle actually had the proper time dedicated to it.The Toxtricity match was the only one which actually had some depth to it. I actually enjoyed the change of pace of one of the kids losing their battle and still failing the test. And I like that we're doing to see more story for Roy and Fuecoco because of it. But it should have come after a well paced battle imo.

And now I'm wondering if Roy is actually going to win next week. We know he obviously doesn't need to win to pass, but it would be weird to have him lose twice, but pass in the rematch due to a bit of training. Idk. I'm rating this at a 5/10 and that's mainly due to seeing Fuecoco's growth.

A Roy battle episode just wouldn't be a Roy battle episode without him losing... and maybe a win next week.

It was nice seeing Nemona again and Ryme was pretty cool but the rest of this felt really hollow and padded whilst the battle itself ends up being unmemorable and flat. I'm really starting to wonder if Roy even warranted a second Pokemon since Kilowattrel just goes down in a single hit and still hasn't done much of anything. Really ain't looking good for Liko's Hattrem since the other two got KO'd.

Also Terapagos, I will shove you back into Liko's pendant if it's the last thing I do because its troublesome schtick is really getting old now.

That damn crystal turtle is starting to give me Togepi vibes, which is not a good thing. :tentacruel:

If there's one thing I hate in a show, movie, story, etc. it's a baby/young character that constantly wanders off and gets itself into trouble, forcing others to save it. Misty's Togepi was one of the worst offenders, though Iris's Axew was pretty bad too.

Agreed. Roy needs to honestly train his Pokémon alongside with the help of Dot, Liko and Nemona

What a rushed episode for wasting too much time spending around the town with Terapagos almost run off again by Drifloon. If it wasn't Nemona to the rescue. At the same time, wasting time of rapping this and that with the rehearsal at the stage. It just too much wasting time for Terastal test for Roy. Have to put up for next week.

As for Roy, this is his first loss that his heart is not with his Fuecoco and never sync.

Episode 60 served the purpose of reminding the audience of the bond Roy and Fuecoco have through their song.

This clearly is the deconstruction. Showing that while their bond is strong, it’s not perfect and there’s definitely room for improvement. Ryme was definitely harsh, but that’s perfectly in-character for her. And hey, sometimes you need to show tough love in order to help someone grow.

The battles were short, but well-animated. It’s nice to finally see Toxtricity’s sig move. But man, let Kilowattrel get a win next time, please.

Also, the line stated by the old lady caught my attention.

It’s said that souls gather here once their time is over, so that they may return to the sky.

Hmm. I wonder...

The fiery bird changes shape when Skeledirge sings. Rumor has it that the bird was born when the fireball on Skeledirge’s head gained a soul.

Roy is just impatient as shown during the middle against Rhyme, which is a big step down away from his rematching battle against Brassius

He literally just watched each and every one of Fuecoco’s moves be countered or tanked. That’s not impatience, he was being backed into a corner.

So not only it wasn't a 2VS2 (I know someone else here said it during previous weeks, I just kept coping), but Kilowattrel was beaten in 2 moves... great to see nothing changes for the secondary Pokemons. I'm also getting tired of the Terapagos shenanigans. It's fine in some dedicated episodes where the kids fool around, it's cute, but it gets repetitive, and as mentioned it's more time that could have been given in some parts of the battle that really needed it.

I really don't want Fuecoco to evolve now. I expect it to happen, and it would be more appropriate if it did here than anywhere else, I suppose... but we already had the Gym battle leading to evolution with Quaxly. I guess it would be hypocritical from me to say I like Fuecoco's antics (while I dislike Terapagos') and would prefer them to subvert the expectations of evolution (while they kinda already did subvert things with making Roy lose both his battle and test)?

Also I'm not sure of what Roy does wrong here besides "being good but not good enough"... while it always seemed to me like he had the closest and more in-synch bond with his starter, among the trio. Him and the croc are just both goofballs who love singing. When he's not hard-focusing on Rayquaza, he's been doing great. I just hope next episode, he trains BOTH his Pokemon together, like he did with Cap a number of episodes ago. Returning to the basics to come back stronger, a nice callback to HZ17.

Ah, sorry

I skipped the filler and went straight to the battle and I was not impressed. I get the feeling this battle was brief for two reasons. One, because there is going to be a rematch so they’ll safe the better choreography for that one and second because it makes sense narratively for Roy to get stomped. Like the gym leader said, he failed as a partner for Fuecoco and couldn’t bring out his full potential. Now then, that comment should include kilowattrel as well, since that bird barely ever gets to shine anywhere. Some of the rap was cringey and some wasn’t, I got mixed feelings about it and Rhyme might as well bite someone with that rude attitude, but on the other hand I was tired of everyone being overtly nice and polite, battling is a sport and coaches aren’t going to pamper you most of the time so I guess it was refreshing in a way.

I actually meant to say that the moment that Roy impatiently activated the Terastallization for Fuecoco against Rhyme’s Toxtricity, it became very sloppy as they failed the test

I was disappointed that Kilowattrel got disrespected, but what else is new, and hopefully he gets a better showing next time (even though we know Fuecoco will have the spotlight again).

Ryme was shockingly harsh. I feel like telling a 10 year-old kid he is a failure of a trainer is not constructive, motivational, or even remotely helpful in any way.

I liked how Roy didn't use his usual Terastal quote, and instead said "At this point, Terastal!". I really got him being desperate in that moment because they've placed such an emphasis on each kid having their own catchphrase essentially when they Terastal.

Also, I totally forgot about the hype opera ho-hoge remix version, but it is so cool despite being so inherently goofy.

Houndstone sounded fittingly like it was on the verge of death.

After seeing the subs, I'm more convinced that what follows this episode should've been a mini arc. Rhyme put out a lot of topics: first the desperate Terastal attempt, Roy's shallow answers to Rhyme's questions: 'Why does he like singing?', how to be a better partner to Fuecoco. That's too much setup to be resolved in a quick Flamethrower to Magical Leaf training. The emotional stakes are high enough to give "Dawn loser arc" and could've needed some time, maybe have Roy watch Liko v Grusha before returning to Montenevera.
