Review HZ109: How Nakanuchan Makes the Ultimate Hammer

Hooray, Tinkaton is here. Been itching at the seams to see it again after Poppy's and it's great to have more of it in action.

Nice little episode especially seeing both Coral and Sidian coming across a whole bunch of fans who adore them. They've really been making a name for themselves recently although eventually it's all gonna come crashing down for them.

This is the face of a Tinkaton who will bring a whole bunch of Corviknights to their knees.

With that, Tinkaton is the second Pokemon owned by RVTs with a three-stage evolution to be fully evolved. Now we're going into the two-part arc finales.

Can someone explain what the point of evolution was? Because from my perspective, it looked like a spoiled pokemon was just following her whims.

Like no one saw this coming.

Nah. It just obvious. People might disappointed if Tinktuaff didn't evolve in order to save it next Friday.

Also, another fun episode for the day. When Gimmighoul tricking everyone to collect coin. While Tinktuaff making her hammer even more heavy than before. While Coral and Sidian tricking everyone to get the Laquium Strong Sphere and being famous around the world with schemes and luring. At the same time, they getting away from them by riding the Taxi, never thought it got shot by Tinktuaff.

Love to see Gimmighoul helping out for Tinktuaff to complete the hammer. So that, they have a chance to get away from Explorers with next week. They going to faced Chalce to prevent her to backup for Liko and Roy at Exceed hideout.

Overall rating: B +

The celebrity life sure has both downsides and perks for Sango, as she gets all the sweets she wants, and more! Poor Onyx did not get to eat the udon... The way his voice changed when he pretended to not be himslef to try and avoid being recognized was perfect.
I think it is hilarious that the taxi driver first was so excited to see Sango and then had no problem with abandoning her and Onyx in the middle of nowhere. Like, dude! Really? Abandoning your oshi?
The Rising Volteccers were hoping to meet with Crave, but they are instead walking into a trap, since the Explorers knew about their plans to meet from the start and planned accordingly. Dot learns about it by accident... because Dot was chasing after Nakanuchan.
Who sky dived into a moving truck full of junk. I have no idea how that truck survived that collision.
Nakanuchan got to evolve, but I am not a big fan of the battle this time. Poor Welcamo had to fend off two Pokemon by itself for a long time, while Dot and Nakanuchan were making the hammer... I get being obsessed and hyperfixated, I really do, but where is your preservation instinct?
It all turned out well in the end, and the Explorers had an exit worthy of team Rocket, but everyone here acted... very distracted.

It was really cute to see the bonds between Dot's Pokemons. Gimmighoul and Tinkatuff both had their own obsessions related to their respective evolution methods... but in time of need, they wholeheartedly helped each other, even at the sacrifice of their own quests.
I'll pass on the way Tink's hammer magically transformed (in the previous evolution episode, it was a bit more realistic at least XD)

I'm happily surprised how this episode seems to blend into the next one instead of just being a one-off. It looks like Tinkaton will have the opportunity for more fighting, as Agate will oppose Dot. I don't know if it's a good or bad thing that Dot will sit out the main fight, but it could be interesting.

I liked getting to see both Tinkatuff and Gimmighoul get the spotlight for the episode and develop a relationship. So far, Gimmighoul has basically been using everyone to farm coins for itself, but Tinkatuff standing up for them to get their coins back got through to them, and they repaid the favor when they stood up to Glalie despite not being strong enough.

Tinkatuff evolves into Tinkaton, finally becoming the hammer-happy monster we all knew it could be. I can only imagine the damage that could come out of this gremlin if given the chance. Now, only Quaxwell and Gimmighoul remain to evolve, with Gimmighoul only requiring a thousand coins, which could really happen any time.

The RVTs are now running into a trap. Something tells me that Crave didn't necessarily lead them into one intentionally based on what we know about him, and iirc Chalce was monitoring him. Meanwhile, Sango and Onyx suffer the consequences of being celebrities and lament not being able to live their lives as they used to.

We're about to reach episode 110 of Horizons. Each saga has lasted roughly 140 episodes since Black & White, but the extra development time for Z-A has presumably pushed the start of Gen 10 back a year in return, so who knows how long Horizons will go on for. Although it feels as though we're entering the endgame in the next arc.

Although each saga has so far run for 140 episodes, I think HZ will be longer, as it will run until the release of the Gen X games.

"Legends ZA" didn't delay the Gen X games. It's probably obvious that the developers will save the next generation for the 30th anniversary (2026).

I'm gonna wager it reaches somewhere around the 150 episode mark since we'll no doubt also get a couple of small breaks every now and then.

This was a cute episode!

It was nice seeing Tinkatuff being the big sister for a change as she's usually being babied by Quaxwell.

And Gimmighoul got some good characterization in that it doesn't always play tricks to collect coins and that it can collect them on its own, but given how small it is, it gets picked on. It was nice seeing it not be obsessed with its own coins for a change.

Also, it's crazy how Coral's fanbase grows to the point that her pigtails are even attachable merch.

Tinkatuff is digging through a pile of scrap metal on the airship, looking for suitable materials to improve her hammer, when Gimmighoul sneaks up on her. Gimmighoul is then picked up by Quaxwell and told by Dot not to interrupt Tinkatuff's activities. Naturally, Gimmighoul brainwashes the three of them and then shamelessly escapes while getting yelled at by Dot. Later, Sango and Onyx are promoting Strong Spheres. While Ult is watching a video of this and complaining, Liko gets a message from Crave saying he will meet with them. Dot heads to her room to update the data proving the danger of the Strong Spheres. Gimmighoul then shows up and tries to get her to collect more coins, but Dot is busy, so Gimmighoul leaves and heads outside, where it spots Tinkatuff digging through more scrap metal.

Gimmighoul starts looking for coins by itself for once, when it is interrupted by a Scrafty that intimidates it into giving up a couple of coins. Tinkatuff then scares off the Scrafty and returns Gimimghoul's coins. Tinkatuff then spots a truck leaving with a piece of iron it wanted. Meanwhile, Onyx is looking for a good udon place when he is interrupted by fans, right after finding one that meets his approval. He is rescued from the swarm of fans by a woman we haven't seen before and her Vigoroth. Sango is cheerfully heading to get limited supply strawberry cream puffs when she ends up in a similar scenario (with the bonus of being supplied with free strawberry cream puffs by her fans). Sango asks who the woman is, and she turns out to be their manager (shouldn't they have been introduced to her at some point?). She puts them on a Corviknight taxi to Paldea (Corviknight's trainer is reluctant to go there at first, but agrees when he notices that Sango is one of his passengers)

As a result of earlier events, Tinkatuff is depressed when the Brave Asagi takes off. Tinkatuff heads to the front of the ship and then spots the truck from earlier and dives off of the ship to retrieve the iron, which is knocked off of the truck by the impact. At the same time, Sango and Onyx discuss their next mission and their being tired of their PR assignment. Once the truck parks, Tinkatuf helps a group of Skwovet and Greedent retrieve some berries, then realizes she doesn't know where she is and tries to head back. The Brave Asagi lands near their destination, and Dot notices that Tinkatuff isn't there. Liko, Roy, and Ult head to the distribution center, where they are meeting Crave, while Dot and Murdock look for Tinkatuff. Dot and her Pokémon leave the ship to search the area under the assumption that Tinkatuff might have gotten off after they landed (underestimating how much Tinkatuff wants good iron). Tinkatuff spots the Corviknight taxi and knocks it out of the sky to steal its feathers. Meanwhile, Dot comforts the worried Gimmighoul while continuing their search for Tinkatuff. She then spots the poor Corviknight falling out of the sky. Corvikight and its trainer flee, abandoning Sango in the middle of the forest.

Tinkatuff starts trying to forge the feathers that fell off of Corvikight and the door that fell off of the taxi into her hammer when Dot shows up just in time. Sango, surprised to see Dot, comments that she should be at the distribution center, letting Dot know that they know what the RVTs are doing. They then battle Quaxwell vs Glalie and Garganacl. Quaxwell is slowed down by Salt Cure and then knocked out by Sheer Cold. Gimmighoul then joins the battle. Thanks to GImighoul's help, Tinkatuff finishes her new hammer but can't lift it by herself. With Dot and the rest of her Pokémon's help, Tinkatuff is able to lift it and evolve into Tinkaton. Tinkaton is then able to easily wield the hammer and send Glalie flying off into the distance with Brutal Swing. Sango and Onyx then run off after Glalie. Dot, after congratulating Tinkaton on successfully making a really good hammer, realizes that the explorers set a trap for the RVTs and heads off to warn them. Unfortunately, it is too late, and Liko, Roy, and Ult have already made it to the distribution center.

The official highlight of the episode is Tinkatuff evolving into Tinkaton, but personally, I think Sango getting a major appearance again and being generally adorable is also a major highlight of the episode. She remains the best part of the Explorers, even if she hasn't gotten as much screen time lately. Sango aside, Dot's focus episodes are always appreciated. Anyway, the next couple of episodes are likely the climax of Mega Voltage, and then we get a break from the main storyline to see just how Roy ended up with a shiny Lucario and a Mega Ring. I'm sure that will be entertaining enough, but I'm looking forward to the main story starting back up after that.
