Review HZ121: The Catcher in the Sky

Man, as a big Pikachu fan I was eating so freaking good this episode. Cap just went above and beyond to get Friede back and managed to terastalize for the first time in his life which was such a cool moment to see.

I just felt so many emotions seeing Friede back once again and Cap's little moment. He is beyond overjoyed the same way I was.

Good to see my boy return and managing to get a Mega Starmie while he was at it.

What an emotional reunion episode for Friede and unexpected he has a Mega Starmie and also surprised Orla. Probably, might have went to Kalos undercover getting it. Otherwise, He won't got that. It seems, everyone got all in position to land the shuttle safety. But not without Pagogo giving Pikachu Terastal Flying type power up.

Overall rating: B+

The RVTs are Completer once again + Ult who joined in episode 100, i think they will finally stop Spinel once and for all but they need to get the remaining types they don't have,

Poor Orio, hugging the Starmie like that instead of Friede lol
And it seems that except getting a spacesuit, Friede did not change much during his space travels.
Cap is the MVP of this episode, honestly.

This scene was cute:

Everyone is like Friede this, Pikachu that, meanwhile I am like

ORBITAL HABITATS ARE CANON IN POKEMON?!?!? WE CAN HAVE AN ALIEN V. PREDATOR SITUATION BETWEEN FRIEDE'S STARMIE AND SPINEL'S BEEHYEM?!?!

Starmie is said to be from space so it is pretty neat that they gave one to Friede. I love Starmie (although its mega is whatever), and I hope we get some neat battles with it since most of its battles in the anime have been pretty meh unfortunately.

When did Liko get a
Friede doll
?!
Certainly not from the official Pokémon merch store lol
Maybe from etsy?
Just kidding
She probably made one
BTW when I saw it I lold a lot because I drew a friede doll just like this one like 2 months ago hahahah

Tho I was concerned about this episode being aired in spite of the 7.6 earthquake earlier in the week and the more recent 6.7 earthquake during Friday in Japan

Dot even caused it to faceplant on the floor

This was an awesome episode. The animation was clean and everyone got cool moments. Love that Orla used her Metagross as the supercomputer it is to calculate the trajectory. We got the return of Brave Asagi Infinite Rising, a tense rescue for Friede thanks to everyone thinking on their feet, Cap becoming the hero of the day by learning to fly for real (I knew his Tera had to be Flying, couldn't be anything else!)... and a heartfelt reunion for both Orla and Cap. I'm not even that mad that Orla was hugging the Starmie, I'm just glad her feelings for Friede weren't a one time thing. They could have put the other RVTs on the back once more this episode, but they didn't, and I'm happy about that, everyone was relevant.

Speaking of, is that a permanently mega-evolved Pokemon? Would be giving fuel to the theory of Mega-Starmie being its base form from space, while the Starmie we know is an adaptation for Earth. It's a fun addition, I didn't really expect any new Pokemon for Friede, but here we are! Hoping it battles soon!

Are we betting on Skeledirge learning Torch Song next episode? Roy keeps having battles every two episodes, but at least this time we're gonna finally have a lot of time with the newly evolved Skeledirge, so I'm not too mad about it.

It still is so bizarre to me that Friede was in outer space for any amount of time without us knowing how he got up there. I am sure we will get answers, but being in outer space is such a strange place for him to be. Cool that he caught or teamed up with a Mega Starmie while he was gone. Here's hoping for some battles with it in the future; though, I am not holding out too much hope for it. Of course, Captain Pikachu has Flying as its Tera type. Beyond that, it is good to see the entire gang back together. Here's to having some sort of big group episode before we get into the nitty-griddy of the seemingly final arc of Horizons.

I love a good joke but the Orio one wasn't funny, the kids running up to it and it hugging them would have been better especially if it hugged them back, their reaction being hugged by that would have been great.
There better be a good explanation on how Friede ended up in space, after what happened when we last saw him.
knowing Friede he forgot that part.

This episode was wonderful. One of my favorite parts was pikachu jumping at Friede and showing how much he missed him! There a few other things that were really nice as well, the rainbow attack, Orla using Metagross super computer abilities to solve the math equation and the space movie showing a galactic sharpedo attack (I wanted to see that completely!)

Friede has returned! After suddenly announcing that he would be coming back from space out of nowhere, the RVTs have to literally catch his falling spaceship because it is having technical difficulties.

The episode itself was pretty fun. I loved seeing them use Metagross like a supercomputer and seeing it's face turn into different math symbols, seeing the kids strategize different ways of catching Friede using their Pokemon, and Landau mimicking Dot's end of episode segment.

Shockingly, Friede seemingly has a Starmie. Not the Pokemon I would expect him to be paired up with, but I've been on the side of "Mega Starmie is hilarious" from the start, so I hope we get to see some goofy shenanigans from it.

We got a really good sequence of Cap rescuing Friede after falling off the side of the Brave Asagi, bringing back the trauma of one year ago, and Terastalizing into Flying-type. I'm sure we theorized this back when we had their origin episode, but after I while, I forgot about it. Another step toward the 18-Tera Type plan, and it seems like Friede will have some more answers for us next episode!

If you thought Mega Starmie was one big Ultraman reference, it doesn't stop at references. Its voice actor, according to the credits, is Tasuku Hatanaka (who also voices Kilowattrel, Ghouldengo and Jacq) who is the current VA of Ultraman Z.

Also, Meowscarada uses Magical Leaf for the first time since she evolved.
