I started watching the Sinnoh episodes lately and you would think almost 600 episodes of the same routine story is close to "beating a dead horse" than anything plot relevant.

So I propose they end Ash's story and pick a new lead.

Like Gold.

I've wanted a re-boot with a fresh cast for awhile.

I hope this is the final generation with Ash and co.

There's one gigantic flaw with your plan though.

What's going to be different about the new trainer? He's going to be exactly the same as Ash. Heck, all the other mon shows that are copying Pokémon's success have protagonists that all behave like Ash.

You guys should really stop deluding yourselves with the idea that changing the cast will somehow refresh the anime. It won't because the writers will still rely on the exact same formulas as last time. Retooling a show that's such a money maker is garranteed to lead to it's downfall.

and do you blame them?
Look at the last Digimon series, awful...
Look at when they copied Pokemon... GREAT

Digimon never copied Pokemon.

And regarding the OP, I'm okay with a reboot, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. And the hero wouldn't be Gold because he already has an anime counterpart who's an experienced trainer.

Never said anything about it being different.
Frankly I don't care if it's still the same generic Pokemon formula.
I'd rather like see some new character run the generic formula to the ground instead of Ash.

And wouldn't you think by now anything with the name POKEMON slapped on it will be a big seller?

HIBIKI PLOT HOLES
I don't care who they use.

A re-boot would be nice, but 10 years down the road, if it would last that long, people will be complaining again. That's my opinion.

Like any successful show, comic, or series of any kind, there are really only two choices: Continue with the cash cow beyond the point of absurdity *coughcoughTheSimpsonscoughcough*, or end it not long after it hits it's stride(Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends; Calvin and Hobbes, 3rd Rock From The Sun) with butthurt fans wishing it had continued. For them, it was never on long enough.

I'm planning on the second of the two painful options for my comics (and future TV shows-*crosses fingers*). Butthurt fans at least have all GOOD memories.

The following is pure, uncensored, biased opinion. No flames, please.

After roughly twelve years of ten-year-old Ash and his various traveling companions on happy-go-lucky, guaranteed-Disney-death adventures, I think it's time for an audience shift.

I don't know about you guys, but I'd like to see a show that's centered more around the trainers than the Pokémon. Ash needs to have a freaking birthday or five or seven. Throw in some ever-so-slightly mature themes (but subtle enough that younger kids wouldn't get it), and actually do something with those presently-pointless 'Shipping hints. Then I'm happy.

If not a retooling of the main anime itself, let there at least be a spinoff with this or a similar premise.

Pure, uncensored, biased opinion ends here.

All I will say is, I've watched Raikou: Legend of Thunder! and I liked having a new cast, story, etc. Granted, it was only one TV movie, but you see my point that a fresh cast could be interesting. Not to mention Pokemon Special changes their characters out all the time (without severing all ties), and it works really well. But it's a manga, and cannot be compared to the anime.

Also, I agree with Glitchipedia on a few notes.

That's it for me.

I wanna at least see pikachu dying/get released/oaked. Pikachu is for me one of the major problems of the anime. Always doing the same thing, always using thunderbolt to solve problems. (And in a lesser extent, Piplup does that too). In sinnoh he haven't learned anything apart the Counter-Shield. Piplup haven't learned something new since DP 26. Yeah, the major problem in the anime is the turnover. Always, always the same things. With team rocket it's ok since they do new things, but Pikachu... is just disgusting to me now.

My greatest wish is that they get AT LEAST rid of Brocko, this now totally useless guy which brings nothing fresh in the anime. I really hope he'll definitely leave soon. (after sinnoh it would be great).

Forgetting my own personal opinion, let's consider it from the perspective of the people making money here - why would they make drastic changes to a show that is clearly so successful in its current format? The cash is rolling in! They have no incentive to change stuff.

As for me, I quite enjoy the show as it is. If you don't, nyaaaah :p Because I don't think they're gonna change the cast any time soon.

I only started watching the anime again recently. I think the only difference is that the animation quality has improved alot.

Pokemon always had crappy filler episodes. Just because you only remember the good ones from the earlier generations, doesn't mean that the current generation sucks.

In five years, everyone will be complaining about the next generation, and how much better DP was.

Personally, I agree that Pikachu is the main problem, I love the little guy but him 'reseting' every season and getting beaten by the first gym leaders is pathatic. I mean the least they could do is have an actuel explaination for it, like Ash somehow reset its level or the things Team Rocket do at the begining of each season (such as draining energy from Pikachu) do it. If he was at an accuret power level, he'd have singlehandly pwned Paul's entire team, except Torterra who is probably a very high level Pokemon. I understand why the writers reset him, but I wish they'd at the very least give a reasoning as to why they do.

Personally, I'd like to see an actuely series based off the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games instead of just these special episodes.

^This.

I love what DP has done with the show. It still follows a formula, but it brings new bents to that formula that make it interesting, and fills the cast with interesting characters that present clever new situations. Compare Shinou to, say, Jouto, and you'll see that the show has actually improved significantly in recent years. It's like they got a second wind.

Maybe it's because I grew up watching Satoshi and Pikachu, but I feel an attachment to them, and I know that if they left, the anime would lose a lot of its appeal to me. Even if I never get to see him actually defeat the Pokémon League champion, heck, it's a lot of fun to watch him try to get there.

The anime doesn't have Pokemon levels.

My opinion:

I don't care if the Animé "resets" and ends Ash. I just care only if the Pokemon buisness keeps on going, continues to make awesome games, because that's what I like.

I know, but it was just the easiest way to say what I meant. I just wish they'd explain why Pikachu is powerful in one season then starts the next season losing to what should be easy challengers.

It would be quite unfair for Ash to sweep gyms off the bat now wouldn't it? Also if Ash did sweep gyms right away with Pikachu we wouldn't be able to see how the gym leaders performed and used their Pokemon. While I do agree with you, you have to look at other reasons why.

I'm not against a brand new cast, but I don't really WANT it either
I'll probably accept whatever the writers do and continue to like it no matter what
The ideal next gen cast for me would be, as I said 235235 times before: Ash (male star, Gyms), Dawn (female star, Contests), Gen 5 Boy (either cold or sensitive/nerd to be different from Ash), Gen 5 Girl (tomboy to be different from Dawn)
I'm not sure about goals for the two new sidekicks, but one idea I had is that one of them seriously LOVE Pokémon and don't know what he (or she) wants to do from all the possibilities, so sometimes he'll try random things (like Gym, Contest, random things like ping pong, etc - try once every one of the different things) and most of the time just enjoy the adventure while he wonders what goal he should choose
