I never understood the line you see when watching Stand by Me the movie in your house in the Kanto games. Is Red talking for once? Or is this a silly mistranslation?
(What does the line say in Japanese?)

I just assumed they were his thoughts. The same thing happens in the Celadon department store, where he comments on the games being played. ("A sports game! Dad'll like that!")

red have dad?? Liar!

Back to gen 1, PC have personality.

Sorry to tell you this but you are wasting your brain cells, there is literally nothing to that except a message to steer you towards the beginning of the storyline.

"You better go too" would have worked just as well. OP doesn't understand why this line in particular is in first person. It's odd to think of a silent protagonist ever talking or thinking aloud, but I suppose any message shown when examining things is just Red thinking to himself.

It makes a lot more sense as a first person thought. Otherwise who is telling Red to leave in a room where he is alone? A ghost? Hehe I'd actually be interested in the creeypastas that no doubt would have surfaced around that.
I can see how it would stand out as the only games to ever feature first person thought but it's still nothing to wrack your brain over, it's just one line with no significance.

Well the lines of text when you pick items up typically refer to Red as "You," which is probably what causes the misconception that a narrator was talking to Red whenever he examined something. Yeah I guess it's nothing to really wrack your brain over but I mean the alternative is speculating about whether or not the locations of regions in Pokemon relate to the real world or something similar. It's a niche interest but has its place for conversation.
