To my knowledge, there is no Broadway fan club. The title of the club, about Defying Gravity, is from the hit broadway musical, Wicked. This is the club for all musical lovers, from Annie to the Wizard of Oz.

In order to join, it would be nice if you maybe tell us one of your favorite broadways/musicals.

To start, one of my favorite operas is the Phantom of the Opera. Coming in a close second place would have to be Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.

Very awesome indeed, but these are the only musicals I have bought the CDs for. I have gone to see neither musical in person, but I did see Wicked on video.google.com today. :<

But nevertheless, do not be frightened away by my long post, I'm just going on and on. I do that sometimes. >_<

But yus, you are welcome to join. We are in need of some members.

I'd love to join your club. One of my all-time favorite musicals is "Phantom of the Opera," which I saw on its national tour in 1991 with Kevin Gray as the Phantom. I guess you could say that I'm a fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber's work since I also love 'Cats' (Betty Buckley pwns the role of Grizabella). I do love older musicals, though, and 'Cabaret' and 'Chicago' are great.

I'm Like a The Lion King, Beatuy and the Beast, and Pokemon Live!, and Parade

I'd Love to be a part of this here club as well. I love Phantom, Wicked, Chicago, Fiddler on the roof, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. There are more but i'm too lazy to type anything else.

I saw 'Beauty & The Beast' on tour in Florida in the late '90s with Gary Beach as Lumiere. He was terrific. It's also my all-time favorite animated Disney film.

I should also mention Hugh Jackman, who was great in an Aussie production of "Oklahoma!" Did anybody here happen to see his performance as Peter Allen in 'The Boy From Oz"?

Count me in.I think I have met you on the chat at some point. If Nekona of Fleet Street rings a bell.....

I love musicals. Right now my current obcessions are Sweeney Todd and Phantom of the Opera in any form whatsoever. Thus me getting the origin od your last name, Erik Destler(Please don't kill me with a spa towel. XD)

*holds up signs to Rep for Barker/Todd and Erik*

I also love Hello Dolly, the Woman in White, and Man of La Mancha. Beauty and the Beast ownz (even if I piss of my pals watching the movie and making Mrs. Lovett jokes because Angela Lansbury voiced Mrs. Potts)

This was mentioned in my local newspaper's arts and entertainment section: the jukebox musical (or catalog musical), which invaded Broadway over the past year or so. A jukebox musical is a show based on a particular singer's ouerve. For example: "Movin' Out," a musical based on songs by Billy Joel. Another in development is "Ring of Fire," based on the songs of Johnny Cash. Pundits have noted that theater's decline roughly parallels pop music's ascendance and diversification.

Here is an assortment of shows that fit the bill:
Ain't Misbehavin', 1978 (review of music by Fats Waller)
Return to the Forbidden Planet, (1989), rock songs by various artists set to the plot from the movie 'Forbidden Planet.'
Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story, 1990.
Smokey Joe's Café, 1995. Review of tunes by Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller.
Play On!, 1997. Musical set to Shakespeare's Twelfth Night with music by Duke Ellington.
Footloose, 1998. Musical adaptation of the 1984 film, songs by various artists.
Saturday Night Fever, 1998. Musical adaptation of the 1977 film, music mostly by the Bee Gees.
Mamma Mia!, 2001. Musical comedy set to the songs of ABBA.
Movin' Out, 2002. Musical set to the songs of Billy Joel.
The Boy From Oz, 2003. Musical biography of Peter Allen, a singer-songwriter.

May I join? I'm seeing Rent tomorrow (YES!) and I like many plays including
~Avenue Q
~Beauty and the Beast
~Phantom of the Opera
~Mamma Mia!
~The Lion King

Has anyone here seen Lestat. Most vamp ones are a flop, but I'm willing to go to the curran to see Hugh Panaro perform again. God he was incredible when I saw him as the phantom.

They made a musical about a Gregory Maguire and a movie out of a Meg Cabot book, why not?

Then again, they made a (disastrous) musical from the Stephen King novel/movie "Carrie," so I'm not surprised at all.

Can I join? I'm vice presidient of my school's drama club (no joke!) and I would say my top 3 favorite musicals that I went to go see in the last 2 years are Rent, Wicked (the chicago version, not the new york one), and Into the woods. Glinda was very "blond" in wicked and I couldn't stop laughing when she said " Alphie! Release that girl and her little dog Frodo too! *chuckles just remembering it*

Umm... I like Marriage Of Figaro, Rigoletto and Carmen... but that's possibly not the type of opera you have in mind. As for musicals, I'm partial to Les Miserables, Oliver, Sound of Music, Wizard of Oz and Bugsy Malone.

Though I'm not interested in your club =)

Edit: Tommy by The Who is pretty awesome too

I saw Wicked in Chicago, too! ^_^ Did you see it when Ana Gasteyer was performing as Elphaba?
Isn't she a cast regular on Saturday Night Live?
