I don't know how to post a link, but I'm sure that some of you might already know about this.

Remember when some of the 4kids characters sang the national anthem? It was a couple of years ago, but I just watched the video today, and I couldn't believe what they were doing with the anthem.

Most of the characters didn't even originate in America! Why are they singing the anthem of a country they're not from?!

Yeesh, as if referring to rice balls as donuts wasn't enough to tick us off, they had to go and mess up our country's song. I'd rather listen to Etemon singing when he has a sore throat than support any other 4kids versions of our country's, or any country's, songs. I know some people might have it out with me for saying all of this, but I truly believe that 4kids is messing up everything they touch.

(Yes, I know some of you don't live in America, but I just wanted to alert you of this so we all could find out about it and take action against it.)
 
Because the show's airing in America? Hockey games have Canadians sing the US anthem and vice versa on a regular basis.
 
Well, listen to their singing voices! Splinter, you are not an opera singer! Luffy, why are you screaming? If the characters' singing voices were actually good, I might have forgave this.

Dumb yes, but this is a company that was well known for americanizing everything they touched (with some exceptions to Shaman King). I mean... they even considered changing the name of Tokyo Mew Mew to HOLLYWOOD Mew Mew.

But seriously, Hollywood Mew Mew? Okay...what the heck.
 
Now, Hollywood Mew Mew would just be idiotic. It's so obviously not American! Just look at the setting!
 
Out of all 4kids's stupid things...I honestly don't see this as one of them. Let's face it, companies have a knack for getting characters to do things that the characters would never really do (Matt and Cody would NEVER argue about "soda" vs "pop" and Cody would never use "grandpa" as an insult, but that didn't stop the Digimon dubbers from doing that as a promo).

'Sides, Celine Dion is Canadian but she sang the American national anthem at some huge event. Isn't it that line of thinking?

It was obviously put in because Americans are idiots and cant even remember their own anthem. ;-)
 
@Ben, sadly, I don't think you could be closer to truth.

What sense of nationality do Anime characters have? They're simply an animated piece that can have any vocal track dubbed over them suited for any purpose given the editor has the rights to do so. The scenes may be out of context, but it's no different than an AMV which sometimes takes advantage of scenes out of context to make a good video, or at least make some sort of point.

Like Satoshi and Blackjack put it, 4Kids did things like this all the time. This sort of thing was expected.

And of course, it's America. Naive Americans have a nasty habit of slapping America over everything they come across. America. What can you do?

Christmas, at least, is something celebrated worldwide even by non-Christians (in Japan it's celebrated as a purely commercial holiday). The American anthem, though...?
 
The main things wrong with the video in my opinion are the bad singing voices and the horrible editing at the end. The basic idea doesn't bother me that much.
 
4Kids would have The Ninja Turtles and Yami Yugi singing the Oscar Myer wiener song if it could benefit them some how.
