I would rather see sequels to R/S than remakes it would show that Game Freak would be taking more time to develop new story instead of reusing an old one. It would also show that the Pokemon series wont be a constant cycle of remakes which would get rather annoying and repetitive. Maybe in Gen V you can revisit Hoenn later in the game just like you do with Kanto in G/S/C/HG/SS.
Who else thinks this is good idea?

I actually like this idea. But it depends. So long as we get to Hoenn, I'm happy.

Maybe a new team? Team Ozone? Control Rayquaza? Steven returns?

Returning to Hoenn in whatever fashion is good. If you can get there as well as getting a new region in the same game, then awesome

I'd much prefer the Gen V games to be an RS sequel than having a completely unrelated set of games and then some boring RS remakes in Generation V. It took me about .2 seconds to think HGSS were completely necessary, and RS remakes would be even worse. Meanwhile, it's been a long time since we've had a straight-up sequel to an older Generation.

True. There is no reason to remake RS. Generations I-II were remade because of their lack of compatibility with the newer games and if you bought the first games way back in 1996-1998 they probably cant save anymore. Im not sure if the GBA games used battery-backed saves or are they like DS cards?

I wouldn't say "sequel", though - how do you really follow that story in a way that wouldn't just be entirely new, making the "sequel" branding superfluous? Let's just go with an entirely new story in the Hoenn region (or any other, really), preferably at least 30 or 40 years into the past or future.

Well I thought the are between Johto an Hoenn was too small for a whole game that's why I suggested the "revisit Hoenn later on" idea. Of course nobody actually knows (Game Freak might or they're still working on it) where the next region will be based on.

i found the games R/S boring and E was entertaining, if a remake of gen III is to appear in gen V please be a remake/visual/story upgrade of emerald

that's what they did with HGSS.

They didn't; they just brought Eusine back and cut down on all the references that made the Suicune story interesting in the first place. In HGSS, it is just an extended chase by which to obtain Suicune, whereas in Crystal it was the story climax. Crystal also had a continuation of the climax in the form of the Ho-Oh event that occurred after the Kanto journey, but HGSS' climax is self-contained and ends before the Elite Four.

If they do remake Ruby and Sapphire at some point in the future (which I don't expect to be at least until 2014, which is to say in Generation VI), I shudder to think how different the story will be from Emerald. I don't see them doing away with Ruby and Sapphire's conflicting plots (only one team being the villains) or the sole focus on one of the Weather titans, so I significantly doubt that Groudon and Kyogre will be battling with Rayquaza intervening again.

The Battle Frontier will be back and possibly even Juan (though most likely not as a Gym Leader), but the story elements will not be adapted faithfully. I feel that Emerald's story was better solidified than Crystal's (since the latter was the first game to actually have a story pertaining to the legendaries), so it will be very noticeable.

I'd much rather see new games that focused on Groudon and Kyogre's first battle, which is actually the one referenced in the HGSS games. Contrary to popular belief, HGSS have references to Hoenn and its unique elements, but not to the plot of the Generation III games.

Everything that made Crystal what it was is in HGSS. Did some stuff change? Duh. It happens. Is the story different? Yeah, thank goodness.

And I'm gonna say it again, just because it was changed in Japan doesn't automatically mean that it will change for the west. They've messed up before and they could do it again.

Also, what references are we talking about here that were cut?

You say this as if the HGSS story were more fleshed out. A few events related to movie promotions don't make that so.

Leaving aside the fact that you're most likely wrong, we're discussing Game Freak's decisions. I am not concerned with what the translators do; I can play Crystal again to see those references.

A detailed account of the Burned Tower story, Ho-Oh's relationship with the legendary beasts, Suicune's connection to the Unown, Suicune testing the player to see if they are worthy, and the way Ecruteak's citizens (Sages) regard the legendary beasts. If that doesn't mean anything to you, then you didn't care about Crystal's story elements in the first place.

Thus proving an earlier point...

I never played Crystal. I did buy it once but it died almost immediatley and I never managed to get a new one. Not even an *alternate* version. So while I have a rough knowledge of these events, I'm not an expert.

BTW, did they ever make a connection between Suicune and the Unown? Aside from the intro, I don't recall ever hearing anything else connecting them.

Shame on me for finding the Pokémon world's mythology to be a point of interest in the games.

No. They just stated that Suicune was closer to Ho-Oh than the other beasts, and that it was the only one that shared a bond with the Unown. Again, Crystal's story was not solidified, but not only did HGSS not fix that, they detracted from it in some aspects.

With the Hoenn games, the story differences are less subtle, so it would be a bigger deal to go back from Emerald to Ruby and Sapphire's plot.

I never said that was a bad thing. It was just an observation I made. I myself am a fan of the graphics and designs moreso than anything else.

Anyways, They could go back to RS's plot, which would work better than mangling the plot of Emerald by dividing it in half, but I do wish they would have the battle in Sootopolis (and also have the effects be region wide)

Picture this... Say Team Aqua summons Kyogre and the world is on the brink of destruction. So Player and Team Magma band together and raise Groudon to counteract Kyogre. But that isn't enough. Kyogre is to powerful and successfully stops Groudon. So the player goes in to fight Kyogre personally.

the reverse, of course, for the Ruby Remake.

Wouldn't that twist be a bit redundant if the player ended up doing all the work by themselves like in the original games? It would just make the other titan look weak.

Emerald made a point of Groudon and Kyogre being equally powerful and Team Magma and Aqua being equally misguided. The game also established Rayquaza as being superior to Groudon and Kyogre. I would hate to see any of those things get retconned.

The player is always doing the work. He can capture God.

And you have a point, however, how would they equally spread that out over two games, unless they simply did JUST an Emerald re-make, which wouldn't get as much money. I don't want them retconned either (I have a soft spot for Emerald as it got me back into the franchise) but I'm jsut not certain how they can show Rayquaza being better in both. I mean, unless you have to fetch Rayquaza for one Pokemon who is... sitting around making it rain/sun. And then that pokemon vanishes... and then you battle it later on. That's redundant.

Yes, a return to Hoenn with a new story would be nice. But I basically just wanna venture into Hoenn again and see everything updated and stuff. And listen to the (most probably) kick-ass music.

I say no. I just want a remake, they can include a new story in there though. They have the memory.
