(I think it was on this site. If it was your post, link and I'll credit you, I guess.)

if Hoenn ended up in HGSS, there'd be no need for any more games. With roughly 500 Pokemon (counting forms) and all four regions readily available on the DS, then there would just be no need to go on with it. Hoenn is said to take place at the same time as RBGY and FR/LG, and GSC/HGSS alongside DPP.

For what it's worth, I don't see Hoenn ending up in HGSS. I don't want this thread to debate that. This thread is for the discussion/debate regarding an/the end of the main Pokemon franchise being possible in the near future. And by possible, I mean they COULD. It's more likely they won't as the series is still very beloved and makes a lot of money.

So all four regions would be in one platform, so it obviously means the end?

New regions much?

Don't speak with such a snide tone, people will like you less

Sure, new regions can happen, easily. But new regions come on new handhelds. Sure, Nintendo's next handheld will allow use of DS cards, just like Advance can take original and Color. But what about when the DS goes out of touch with the newer stuff? With all four regions at the ready, there's just no need to carry on.

That said, look at how small DS cards are. Look at how well the DS is still selling. It's possible the DS won't come to an end for many years.

If the DSi catches enough steam, that could be the platform for new games, it has much greater capabilities than the DS. I mean how different was the GBC from the previous one other than being able to show colour, yet it got its own Pokemon game, and Crystal even being exclusive to the GBC.

And its not as if they were going to make an RSE remake any time soon >_>

Wait, so, because everyone region is on one platform, there's absolutely no need whatsoever to carry on?

Generation II says Hi.

Yeah, I think a lot of people don't realize that Pokemon in a sense is a lot like Dragon Ball Z, the first generation was suppose to be the last. And here we are with Generation IV. I mean take a look at Generation II, the games itself show they had to terraform the whole land geography to entwine the Johto and Kanto Region together. I don't people that see the end to a certain series. There are 2 key phrases in an form of story-based media that allow something to continue forever. "Plot-device" and "Plot hole". I mean in Generation III they found a way to bring Generation II into the picture without bringing back the Johto region. Plus according to the map, all of the current areas we've been to through the generation occur on the south part and coast of what looks to be a continent or large island. If they proceed a new generation with new pokemon they will either go east, west, or north. Or add another island. But anyways once that is covered all they have to do is call our "National Dex" something like a "Regional Dex". Some sort of cover-up. Or none at all, I mean they never really explained to us how Johto and Kanto overlap.
