i have a few friends and they seem insistent on me playing but i don't want to buy the newest games yet until i look into it a little more

i don't know much about pokemon and i'm not that interested in the cartoons or anything.

i was wondering if you guys could help me though? which game should i start out playing first? don't worry i can borrow some of the older games from my brother (he got a gameboy and i didn't because i lived with my grandparents and they were pretty firm on the whole "girls don't play videogames that's a guy thing".)

as for information about me, i'm from canada uh. like i said i haven't played pokemon before. i like doodling in my notebook and recently got a used tablet from a friend so i might try it out sometime.

nice to meet you all!

Hi, nice to meet you and welcome to BMGf :) For Pokemon games, what game systems do you have? If you can use the Game Boy Id suggest playing the older games like Red or Blue. I started with Gold and Silver myself, and those are great games as well. If it's a Game Boy Advance, maybe try FireRed/Leaf Green and it will play the older games too. If you need any help on the forums, feel free to ask a staff member like me or visit the Help Desk or FAQ forums and make sure to review the forum rules. I hope you have a great time here.

thank you very much! my brother used to be into pokemon a fair bit so he has nearly all the games up to the gamecube/early DS ones. he also got a remake for the DS for christmas but he doesn't play them anymore so it's still unopened.

i have the binder full of gameboy games beside me right now that he stored everything in, i'll see if i can find red or blue in it.

Hello, and welcome to Bulbagarden. Almost all of us could answer questions regarding Pokemon. I'm a girl, and I don't really believe that video games should be restricted to males, but are meant for anyone to enjoy. Personally, I enjoy all Pokemon games, so I would recommend it to you. I really want to see your opinion on it. ^_^

You mean HGSS, try that as well if you like, great game.

i found pokemon blue and red in here along with yellow and silver. i think i will try one of these first, probably blue. thank you though!

yeah i don't think that either. my grandparents were just old fashioned. (technically they were my great grandparents.)

I actually started with Platinum, then Black, then Soul Silver, then White 2. :p I didn't start playing seriously until Black came out though, I never passed the distortion world in Platinum, mostly because I used the masterball on a bidoof (argh) and I had like Lv 30 Pokemon at mount coronet. I have completed platinum after black though. If you are interested in the old games, try Yellow or something, and work your way through them all. The story lines make more sense if you start with the oldest. Are you interested in the side games, like XD or Colosseum which are playable on the GameCube/Wii (possibly Wii U too, never looked into it)?

Welcome! Hmm, my favourite game is Soul Silver. You can also get Heart Gold which is pretty much the same game with a few differences. It's out on the Nintendo DS. I wasn't a huge fan of BW, it was too easy to complete and it didn't have the atmosphere of previous games. I find older games more charming. Watch some walkthroughs on youtube to get a feel of which games you like best.

HGSS is a great starting point. Two regions, 16 badges, and pretty much everything known about the entire Pokémon world at the turn of the millenium with more modern graphics and an updated Pokédex. I also started in Johto myself back in Gen II.

In Gen V, play BW first, and then BW2. You'll appreciate the story and character development more, and Gen V is much deeper in the story department. Black 2 is the sequel to Black, etc.

I've never played any of the Sinnoh games yet (rejoined the fandom between HGSS and BW), but I've read that people really like Platinum.

Of course, if you are able to, try the older games to taste a bit of the classics.

Hey there and welcome to the forum! n~n Hm, I'd suggest starting with the very first games, Red and Blue (or Yellow, which was much better than R/B). Of course the graphics will be much different than what we have now, but you'll get to experience all the games from start to finish. Though, as some have said, HGSS is a great one to start with if you'd rather not play from the ground up.

HGSS has been the best game methinks :) It deserves far more recognition than it ever has had.
