Hello everyone I need some help in making a team.

Mainly the first thing I need to figure out is what natures to make my pokemon (I know this depends on what I want to make them i.e. physical sweeper, special attacker etc.)

****I am going to be trying to use this team for competive battling most likely.

I am going to be getting help from my friend also so I can get all 3 starter pokemon to play through pokemon platinum.

so far I've gone through the internet, and found out from some people asking questions the following *quoting these from the sites.(I'll post links if you require them)

"What is the best nature for turtwig?"

"His final evolution, Torterra has a Base Attack Stat of 109. 75 Base Special Attack. Give it an Adamant nature".

That's what I got for turtwig.

"Ok, this is like the 1st time I'm ever really gonna actually care about the nature, cuz I've never really payed any attention at all to the natures, but what would be the best nature for Chimchar, based on everything we already know about it?"

"I would REALLY not recommend a Hasty nature. With a hasty nature, Aerial Ace will probably come close/will OHKO Infernape. If you want Infernape to be a Physical mon, use Adament(+ATK -SP ATK) or Jolly(+SPD -SP ATK). If you want it to be a Special mon, use Modest(+SP ATK -ATK) or Timid(+SPD -ATK)".

That's what I got for chimchar.

Piplup is the only one I cannot find.

The main help I require so far is just figuring out the natures/what to make them for the 3 Starter Pokemon.

*I currently have my game saved right before I get to choose my pokemon so I can soft reset it to get the natures/characteristics I want/need.

Sorry if this post is too long.

Piplup -- and by extension, Empoleon -- are very diverse. There's a lot of things you can do with it, mostly on the special side.

But first, I have to say that the advice you got on Torterra is probably not the greatest. Torterra is, first and foremost, a tank. Base HP 95, base Defense 105, base Sp. Defense 85. Adamant really only works if you're using a Choice Band, Rock Polish, or Swords Dance. Given that the X4 Ice weakness means a lot of people will be taking advantage of that, Torterra cannot really afford to waste turns setting up, or risk getting locked into a single attack. An Impish nature would probably suit it best, giving it defensive bulk to suit moves like Substitute, Leech Seed, Rest/Sleep Talk, Toxic, Stealth Rock, Protect, etc., while still retaining the capacity to hit hard with physical attacks like Earthquake, Stone Edge, Wood Hammer, and so on.

You see people recommending a Hasty nature for Infernape because they are using movesets that also use special attacks, not just physical -- in other words, mixed sets. Both of Infernape's base offensive stats are 104, while it's base defensive stats are both 71, and it's base HP is hardly better, at 76. It is not Infernape's job to be able to withstand hits. It's job is to get in, hit as hard as it can, then either die or get the hell out of there. Again, the only thing you would want a -Sp. Atk nature for would be if you were running Swords Dance (which Infernape can afford to take time to set up even less than Torterra) or a Choice Band.

Natures which raise one offensive stat or speed at the cost of the other offensive stat are best reserved for pokemon who have a marked difference between their offensive stats, or if you are specifically concentrating on moves of one type or another, and will be using purely physical or special moves.

Now, keeping this in mind, let's look at Empoleon. It's base stats are: HP 84, Atk. 86, Def. 88, Sp. Atk. 111, Sp. Def. 101, Spd 60. All except speed are pretty respectable, and Empoleon makes up for that with the priority move Aqua Jet, and speed-raising move Agility. It's typing makes it resistant to 12 out of the 17 types, and completely immune to Poison. For a Steel-type, being neutral to Fire is a huge plus, and vice-versa for a Water-type being neutral to Grass, though Empoleon is still weak to Ground, Fighting, and Electric. Empoleon counters these by being able to learn Drill Peck, Ice moves like Avalanche, and Earthquake.

Unless you're running Swords Dance and Aqua Jet, don't use an Adamant nature. You can see that Empoleon is heavily weighted towards the special side, (though by no means is the Swords Dance+Aqua Jet set a bad once -- it can work quite well, in fact), so your main decision is this: do you want Empoleon to take hits, or dish them out? A Calm nature would be best if you want to go for defense, Modest if you want offense (again, excepting the case where you decide you like the physical Empoleon set).

Hope this helped!

It Did thank you very much I'll see if I can think of any other questions :p.

I think what I'm going to do is make my Tortera when I get it, is make it a tank, make my Infernape a physical, and Empoleon an offensive.

Infernape works better as special. Even a full special Infernape can take out a Blissey.

And Close Combat means nothing? I'm not doubting that statement, but you can't deny that CC is always going to be worthy of consideration, even on a set that focuses on special attacks.

I don't bother calling "Mixape" Mix anymore when its only physical move is Close Combat for the soul purpose of killing Blissey. Its basically what Flamethrower is to an SD Garchomp, except stronger.

Alright here's what I have so far, Level 20 Monferno Timid nature, strong willed, Prinplup Modest Nature, Highly Curious, Grotle Impish nature, Quick Tempered. I didn't feel like getting good characteristics because it would have taken me forever and there was no way in heck I was going to go through all the heck I went through to get the specific natures for all 3 starters lol.

Anyway my team as follows is (along with current movesets *mind you these are going to change because the max level I am so far is 20 and only at the 2nd gym because I'm taking my time, I'l also include stats)

That's the team so far, but this is just my in game team for now, I'll be changing it eventually (same for my competitive team), I don't know if I'm going to have a chance at Sky Forme Shaymin but we'll see when the time comes if my Shaymin works lol.

I didn't include the natures/ characteristics for the 3 starters at the chart like part because I included them at the very top.

Just wondering what moves to keep and what not.

And once again thank you for your help it's appreciated very much. ; )

;-)

Another update, I'm past the 5th gym, I have a Inferape, Torterra, Empoleon, Staraptor, Luxray, *Bibarel (Soley for the use of HMS)

Not going to bother with IVS unless, someone wants me to post them.

See ya.
