Okay, so i'm just getting started in playing via Wi-fi with all you crazy people ;], and i'm getting creamed each and every time in the battle tower. The game it self was fairly hard, but wow, some of you guys are good, really good. Now i'm just asking for a few pointers on how to improve my game online. Thanks!:-D

Well, anyone who could help you would require a bit more in the way of details.

What exactly are you looking for? Team advice? Movesets? EVs?

We don't know what you already have, so it's rather difficult for us to tell you what you need.

Also, there's a sticky at the top of this page that may help you. It's titled something along the lines of "Simple questions with simple answers".

Yeah, I understand what I wasn't doing. I just barely beat the game and my starters had pretty crappy move sets and absolutely no EV's. So, I basically just answered my own question. Haha, i'm special.

It's impossible that your starter had "no EV's." You gain EV's everytime you defeat another Pokemon, so it has EV's, you just didn't keep track of what stat they were going into.

I meant I never enhanced them or upgraded them throughout the game.

You mean you never kept track of what EVs went into which stat. Your Pokemon accumulated EVs after every single battle it won. So they are enhanced, you just don't know how many EVs are currently in each stat. I suggest shoving EV-reducing berries down your Pokemon's throat until you know it's EVs are down to 0, and then work your way up from there.

I suggest rebreeding from scratch for decent IVs, after working out some theory about teams in general. That way, your hard work and berries don't go to waste. And this is not at all a simple question, guys.

If you don't know what EVs, IVs, Natures and such do/are, then learn that first. You can ask here if you want. If you want to learn good movesets, you can use sites like Bulbapedia to survey a Pokemon's total moveset or Smogon to see its ideal competitive movesets (though this may not be so helpful if you can't understand why these sets are better). Learn how stats and bases work. Memorize all of the important moves. As a general pointer, moves under 70 power probably aren't important unless they are priority. Figure out what constitutes a 'high' base stat. Play noncompetitive battles to understand theory better.

When you have a good background, read Smogon analysis pages religiously. It really helps you understand what is good and why it is good, plus gives you a great picture of the metagame. When you understand enough, try making your own sets and put together teams. Get them rated in the RMT subforum, and try them out. Practice A LOT.

If you follow these steps, you will be an expert. Also, feel free to ask lots of questions of us along the way if you need help.

Wow, Thanks cheesus! I've actually never realized how in depth this can really get. I just picked the game back up after a 10 year hiatus, so all of this is new to me. I will heed your advice. Maybe soon i'll take you guys on ;D
