As some of you probably know, these last 6 months, I've been studying towards a Graduate Certificate in International Business from Queensland University of Technology. Just got my results back yesterday. On the 7 point scale employed by the university, where 1 is worst, 4 is minimum for a pass, and 7 is a high distinction, the marks I recieved were...

IBN403 BUSINESS IN ASIA 7
IBN408 GLOBAL BUSINESS OPERATIONS 6
IBN409 NEGOTIATING ACROSS BORDERS 7
IBN421 MARKETING INTERNATIONALLY 6

I've apparently topped the class for Business in Asia, and was within the top 3 for Negotiating Across Borders (most likely took top position there, but haven't been able to confirm it yet). As you might imagine, I'm quite pleased with myself. :D

With my performance in this, I've been accepted to complete a Masters degree in International Business. I'll be doing subjects this semester in International Accounting, Managerial Economics, Managerial Finance, and International Logistics Management. Going to be a much more dull semester from the sounds of things there, but I suppose I can't complain too much. ^^;; With my Bachelors degree also being in this field, I have a block credit for 48 credit points (so, 4 subjects), meaning that I'll actually complete the Masters after this next semester.

Now...if only I can get a steady full time job, in an industry I'm qualified for and am interested in, out of this. ^^;; Market Research pays the bills, but it's not really something I'd want to be doing forever.

Wow, cool, but that's going to be a lot of work coming up soon... Congrats a lot though! It's a question people always ask, but any ideas on what you want to do after your masters?

After I finish this...well, if my grades continue to go this way, I expect to get an invitation to articulate into the Masters Advanced, which would either add a research dissertation or a minor in another field (for which I'd probably pick Public Relations, Marketing, or Integrated Marketing Communication). After that though.....I'd probably either move into academia, or try to find a position in marketing/public relations that'd make use of my focus on the asian region, and of all the skills I've picked up in grassroots level consumer marketing and marketing management from running this site.

Congrats. Maybe you can try working your way up in one of the big three Pokemon companies, no? Unless you mean full time job in your area?

I certainly wouldn't mind working for Nintendo, or one of its related companies. You'd certainly think my hands on experience in the fandom over the years would give me a leg up if there was a job opening there. Of course, the problem is getting the job, if it's not in Australia. I certainly don't have a problem moving internationally (I wouldn't have done International Business as a major otherwise), and it's actually a goal of mine to end up living in Japan permanently, but I can't exactly just stroll down the street for a job interview for a job in New York or San Fran, can I?

You could try promoting Bulbagarden in Japan to get your status up and see if that helps you perhaps?

Sadly, even though I touted a possible "Bulbacast Japan" a while back (in a message in Japanese at the end of a recent cast), I never did get any feedback or interest from that. Certainly though, if we had enough people living over there, and/or who spoke Japanese, to make it a viable proposition, we'd do it.

Not sure what else we could do to promote ourselves there, without stepping on the toes of our existing Japanese affiliate/Bulbapedia partner/hostee. I do plan to split up Land of the Rising Sun this week though, having one specific forum for talk about non-Pokémon anime/manga, and another for discussions about Japan, and/or in Japanese. I'm sure most Japanese would just prefer using their own forums for that sort of thing though.

Congratulations! Finally another post-grad besides me. Don't worry about finding a field that interests you. I wound up doing something I didn't expect. I got my MBA in information sciences. I wound up in marketing. (Although an LLD in business law keeps tugging at me. At my age, that would just be an embellishment.) You'll probably do something similar. Good luck!

According to that education level poll I did a while back, I'm pretty sure there were other post-grad's on this forum. Kasumi's got a Masters in...was it Creative Arts? Or graphic design? Something like that. Think there were a few others with post-grad qualifications as well.

Hmmm... from the qualifications you already have, I feel it's good enough to start a good life career; if you continue your studies, you are basically delaying your entrance into the job market. My personal mantra is to start early if you get the chance to do so.

As for the suggestions that you join a Pokémon-related company, with the qualifications you have, coupled with your knowledge of Pokémon, you might prove to be irresistible to them.

Another option may be to start your own business...

Joining a Pokémon related company is a lot harder than it sounds. ^^;; Certainly I'd love to do that if at all possible, but it's not something one just walks into.

One other possibility that I haven't mentioned is the diplomatic service. My high scores for Business in Asia and Negotiation, together with my Japanese language and culture knowledge, would be a boon there.

Go work for Game Freak. Move to Japan immedately, storm their building, and demand a job. Then you can insert all sorts of Bulbgarden plugs.

Gym Leader: Congratulations, you've won! Remember to visit Bulbapedia!

But seriously, excellent job. :D

Good job, Archaic. I'm about to start my next certificate soon (Certificate III in Financial Services), so yeah. Good luck to both of us, eh?
