I remember when I thought Emerald's graphics were high-tech.

I saved up the money to by it by having a 3-day-long garage sale. =P

Discuss here your favorite memories regarding specific generations, and any personal stories regarding older games.

I miss Stadium's minigames...

Generation I...boy oh boy were those the good days. Not being ostracised at school for liking Pokémon...finding out about Mew through an unofficial guide...Going to the Millenium Dome to download Mew...

Generation I were good days...back when life was simple and fun. Shame I had to grow up and realise that this world is a crap hole.

When I first played HeartGold, I heard some of the original 8-bit tracks in my head. It seems so long ago I picked up a Game Boy Color and played Crystal. It looked so good at the time...color on a portable! Of course, the music also hooked me...it was quite a game. Even the cartridge sparkled (literally).

GSC were games you could really sink your teeth into. It was simple fun in a tiny little package. And that's why even today they are still regarded by many as some of the best games in the series.

I have no idea why, but I still remember the day I got Stadium 2. Me and my grandma went to the Zoo every spring break, and that year the game came out the day we went. This was back before the Cincinnati Zoo remodeled and they had this long hill by the elephant house with nothing there that you had to go up to get out, and I asked her if we could stop somewhere to get the game. I fell asleep in the car, and my mom went in to get it for me after she woke me up to ask the name of the game again. I even remember the store we went to.

Today is actually the first day of spring break for the district here, and we continued our tradition of either going to the zoo or to the Smoky Mountains and went to the zoo. When we passed the elephant house I remembered it again.

I could never afford to buy any of the Pokemon games new before Gen IV (besides Emerald--I bought it at Best Buy with the Garage Sale money), but that always did have its advantages in itself. For one, you could often find some abandoned gems on someone else's used file.

When I bought Pokemon Stadium, "Alex" left behind some really good Pokemon--including Mew and Mewtwo--that I adopted to beat the game and receive a Squirtle prize.

The only game I have besides HeartGold is Silver...at the time I got it, I had a gameboy color and a SNES (all used, Silver was already beaten) and I thought I was pretty high-tech.
Then the Gamecube and Gameboy Advance came out (along with Ruby and Sapphire) and I felt hopelessly left behind...

Thing is... there isn't much from the earlier gens we haven't gotten back. Day and Night is back, Kanto was rebuilt all the way, new and cool concepts were introduced... I think all I really miss is Hoenn.

I remember when I first got Gold Version and was so psyched to get a look at all the new 'Mons they had made for the game. Nowadays new Pokemon every generation is practically expected, but I remember how totally awesome it sounded back in the day.

After a child-hood of the Collesuim series, my single-battle skills were cripled for quite some time, until i got Firered.

Clearly, i was a late poke-bloomer, and thus feel the same way about XD: Gale of Darkness as some of you do about Red and Blue.

I remember when I first got Gold. I didn't play the original Pokemon games until after gen.II but I played the TCG and watched the Anime, I thought it was amazing when they released new Pokemon in Gen.II , my favorite still being Typhlosion. I loved chasing the Legendary Dogs around and remember spending HOURS trying to lower Lugia's HP JUST enough to catch it with an Ultra/Heavy Ball. Back when the only pokemon I leveled was my Starter. I didn't start leveling a whole party until Gen.III, but I really didn't start playing against people where one Pokemon wouldn't cut it until gen.III either.

The very first Pokemon video games I got were Ruby/Sapphire. I never beat Ruby, but I beat Sapphire once. I originally didn't want FR/LG (I didn't know why), but I got them eventually.

I never played the first and second generation games.

When I was like, ten or eleven, I found $60 in the parking building of a shopping centre. That was an awesome day. Anyway when my mum asked what I was going to do with the money I said I wanted a GBA and the new Pokemon game. After playing Blue and Silver I was surprised they had made a new one as the craze had pretty much died to my knowledge. I had some other money saved up, but even with what I had found it was nowhere near enough. Anyway my birthday was a couple of weeks away at that point, but my parents agreed that they would buy me the GBA, so I went out and bought Ruby. Unfortunately that left me with a game I couldn't play for two weeks :(

I must have read the instruction booklet over at least 20 times before I ever played the game haha.

I still remember the awesome that is my "REDDRGN" file on Red thanks to Nintendo themselves... aw man I want to load it up now... xD So may great memories. That joy of getting my hot pink GBC with Pokémon Red. man, those were the days. When school decided they needed to ban pokémon cards because people would fight over them at school. Back when EVERYONE played the games. I remember how proud I felt when I was able to close my eyes and play some of the Pokémon Stadium minigames. xD

I still think RBYG/GSC have great graphics, but that's also because I consider the time they come from, not constantly comparing it to now. Yeah, we have pretty 3D, but it all had to start somewhere. And, to be honest, they don't really look that bad. The only things I really see is that they get some full color and better at transparency around the buildings. xD well, until they hopped aboard the 3D train. But even then the people sprites feel just like the old ones but with more color.

Everyone in my 5th Grade Class had awesome Pokemon-type school supplies except me.

Then one day I got a kick-ass Vileplume pencil sharpener but it was too late. The fad had ended and I was ostracized for the rest of the school year. This was probably my first major experience when it came to the wish-washy nature of fads at school.

Plus, my math teacher took it away from me too since it was too distracting. Bitch never gave it back either!

Heck yeah.

I remember in gen I, i could never find out where the HM Flash was. So I had to go throught the dark cave without it. Back then that was quite difficult. But I like like came myself (not literally) when I finally succeeded. Keep in mind I was like 7 back then.

Oh, a more recent example, I actually never realized there was an abandoned ship in Hoenn until I played Emerald which was quite weird since I had quite enjoyed the AG episode about it. :p

I remember finding it one day while surfing about and I was like ":0", this thing actually is in the game. It was a pretty cool area if I recall, had a nice atmosphere and was pretty foreboding.

Actually, come to think of it, this took place like six years ago. It's weird to think of RS as my childhood considering I've been playing Pokemon since RBY, but damn. Pretty soon I think I can call my DP days my "childhood" too. :0

I've long since overcome the nostalgia virus, but I do miss playing Pokemon Stadium 2 with my sisters. Especially how over-the-top the announcer was. I'm glad Pokemon is no long a "fad" and "everyone is playing it" though, because that means Pokemon has matured and grown into something serious.

I begged my Mum for the Red and Blue games for ages and I thought I'd never get them... Until Christmas day, when I was one very happy bunny.

I had all the gen I and II games, but I lost all my cartridges when I moved back in 2003, I'm still distraught about it.

I used to play the Pokemon Stadium mini games before school. I'd wake up around 4am so I could play them for a few hours each morning o_O

Pokemon Gold was my first Pokemon game. I remember sneaking my gameboy to school so I could trade with friends. I always felt so guilty about it (I was about 8 and mum told me not to take it to school) but that didn't stop me. Besides, I almost finished the pokedex at the time and nothing could beat the feeling of that. At least, until the internal battery died.

I started with Red and Yellow, but there aren't that much memories from those games. I remember asking my dad if he could fix my "broken" game - it seemed broken after seeing Missingno. and then looking at the Hall of Fame ^^"

I also remember catching Lugia in Gold at a summer cottage. I had, naturally, used the Master Ball to Ho-Oh, so it wasn't very easy to me back then.

Aaaaaand of course the release of RS. Me and my brother got both one, though that time I had only GBC and my brother had a brand-new GBA, so we had to play on the same console for a while. I bought myself a GBA SP later, though :p After playing Gold for ages, Sapphire was something amazing graphics-wise, and the difference between those two is still huge.
