No, they weren't supposed to be found by anyone alongside Diancie, Hoopa and Volcanion as well as Floette-E. If anything, they were supposed to be distributed for XY after ORAS was revealed to build up hype but that plan was later scrapped, possibly due to the big role the latis play in ORAS.

I don't remember exactly where, but in-game there is an old couple who talk to the player about how it's their 45th anniversary (iirc), and they mention rubies and sapphires.

It was in the hotel in Lumiose City. I dismissed all the Hoenn hints as coincidences since there were just as many references to other regions. Boy was I wrong.

I almost forgot about this... I wonder when they'll distribute it? I once thought maybe they'll give it over wifi to celebrate XY's 1 year anniversary but that's actually tomorrow and there's no word about it... (well, I guess for all we know they could never distribute it at all... after all we weren't supposed to know it is programmed in the game, and unlike the other hidden pkmn it's hardly something they "have" to eventually give us)

Considering we still have Z/X2Y2 they'll just bundle it along then or with the movie with zygarde if AZ is in.

Yup. 40th is Ruby, 45th is Sapphire.

Considering we still have Z/X2Y2 they'll just bundle it along then or with the movie with zygarde if AZ is in.

I think by now it's pretty obvious we're not getting Z/XY2 so that option seems very unlikely... and the movies usually stay away from using game characters so I doubt that option too

Uhhm. We'll be seeing a game in kalos that has something to do with zygarde for sure, whatever they want to call it doesn't really change my point.

The real question to ask is why those two Megas were in XY's source code to begin with.

If NoA and Game Freak did not intend to reveal the Megas until ORAS, why put them in XY? Obviously none of the other ORAS debuting Megas were found in the code, and XY can actually be patched to be compatible with the ORAS megas.

Someone suggested that the Mega Latis' flying thing--and by extension, the "legends getting their own magical cloud islands"-- was originally meant for X and Y (and with Hoopa being a Kalos legend, that would've made much more sense) and they decided to scrap the feature. But they can't just rip it out of the code, so they decided to block it from the main game. Like the Soul Dew and the customizable Key Stone accessories, all of which were found in the coding of X and Y.
