Ok, we all know Drew, Harley, Ursula, and Paul are some rivals that fans absolutely love and adore.

However, Zoey and Kenny a lot of people weren't feeling, even though I love them personally.

With the new generation coming up, what ideas do you think the writers should or will go with for future rivals in general.

What qualities do you think all future rivals should have to make them interesting. If they are friendly, what can the writer's do to make sure the excitement of their appearances from the fans aren't lukewarm like Zoey and Kenny's were from some of the fans.

If they are to be antagonistic, what new ideas should the writers come up with to make them interesting while not rehashing ideas or qualities from Harley, Ursula, or Paul.

IMO, we are bound to get more rivals to this show, but what does it take for a good rival(friendly or mean) to be well received by the fans for future reference.

I doubt all rivals will be jerks for the future, so we are bound to get some friendly rivals, but what should they be like.

Also, if possible, I'd like everyone, even for those who don't watch the current series, to respond on what a good rival brings to the show, maybe that might sway them to watching again.

Harley was a terrible rival. Zoey & Kenny were much better. As for the future, I say we'll see something like Gary: cool, popular, mocks Ash to no end.

I'd like to see someone that has the aspects of Barry and Ursula. Arrogant, sometimes demeaning rival that can get along with the main character. Just don't make them into completely jobbers like these two seem to be.

I just want the rivals to be entertaining. Some of the rivals in DP were some of most dull rivals of the series, (not counting Richie).

Hopefully next arc they do better. Paul will be hard to top though.

I'd like to see someone who is friends with so-and-so/Ash at first, but then later down the line something happens between them, most probably an argument or disagreement which see's the rival become antagonistic for the remainder of the series, before an eventual reconciliation at the end. That's how I figured Zoey and Dawn would pan out, but I guess it wasn't to be.

At the end of the day though, I don't really care what direction they're taken in as long as they're entertaining and funny. Above all else, that's what they should be focusing on the most. It's why both Harley and Barry are cool; They get a lot of laughs.

Well, people always prefer mean, obnoxious rivals over firendly rivals. I could see more antagonistic rivals next saga. And one or two that were kind of like Barry, helpful but competitive.

Either way, we know that we'll probably get both kinds of rivals next saga.

I would like to see some balance for both main protagonists both in the gender of their rival and in the frenemy/friend rival.

For exemple, Ash should have something like a female really antagonist rival, someone who's really trying to use scare tactics and possibly not above cheating Ash, but still kind to his pokémon. A friendly male rival, possibly someone to whom Ash could act like a mentor to. and 1-2 comic relief rivals

For BW girl: a male antagonist who's looking down on her, possibly to hide a crush, a female friendly and a female comic relief (not bitchy though, just like really girly and clumsy)

I'd like to have another rival that does both gyms and contests/new quest and that appears more than Nando did.

Why can't we get one of those evil smilely rivals? You know, the ones that act all good-natured on the outside but are actually bastards on the inside.

Usually have a constant face like this---> "n_n"

So yeah, put me down for one of those. Also, I'd like to order a friendly female rival, but please, put the companionship/traveling buddy on the side. Just give her the B&W girl design and we'll be set.

And could I get a Diet Brock with Croagunk ice?

I loved both Paul, Barry and Ursula's acting. All were great rivals. If they could come up with a rival that is wild and a bit of a jerk would be awesome.

Adult Rival. That'd be something interesting to see...maybe have the antagonism come from the fact he treats Ash like a child out of habit without meaning any harm. Throw a Raichu on him or something maybe.

Also, if RSRemake is in the cards, an Expy of Wally akin to how we got a Silver Expy in Paul?

Harley isn't count?

I'd like to see more of a clumsy rival next time. One that talks him/herself up a lot yet makes tons of mistakes and is an all-around whackjob. I think that'd be pretty funny to see. They wouldn't necessarily be antagonistic, but they'd be a bit condescending towards Ash or whomever when they are pretty much describing his/herself. I guess that sort of describes Barry, but meh.

I'd like to see a female rival for Ash mainly, but a blonde chick. She can be stuck up and preppy, but use some powerful Pokemon to make up for her girly/competitive personality.

The next girl (or Dawn, whatever floats your boat) should get a main rival that's more demanding than Zoey, as in more harsh and abrupt. Dawn doesn't need help anymore so having someone to try and bring her down a few pegs would be nice to see. Ursula somewhat already does that, but she isn't a main rival. And she only had three appearances so yeah. Dawn's rivals were pretty crap. I was ok with the friendly rival idea at first but I didn't think it'd be so lackluster. I don't want the rivals to always have the same personalities but they could at least be a bit more interesting. Give them more backstory or something. Personality is not the only thing that makes a character interesting or boring, however you wanna look at it. If they went into Zoey's character a bit more, and maybe expanded the "I hate people that do gyms/contests" thing, she might have been more interesting to watch in her episodes, IMO.

Yeah I was going to say that this would be i guess Barry/Conway mix for a rival...somewhat smart but is in way too much over his head

I also agree with the female rival...however instead of a prep make her just a flat out bitch like worse than ursala...constantly criticizing Ash's training methods and pokemon

You mean you want her to be like Paul. Ash should have at least a female rival this time around maybe a little like Paul but only in the sense that she is tough and unwilling to open up to others but treats her pokemon decently. A second rival should be someone along the lines of a Harley/Ursula for Ash.

If there is a new girl rival for Ash I hope she isn't a carbon copy of Paul. She needs to be her own character.

I agree.

Have we ever covered a truly jealous rival, who is all about themselves being successful, so if Ash, Dawn or new BW girl is, they are very hateful and cold.

Having a rival who is only happy for Ash when he is below them is great storyline. They would eventual evolve into being humble.

How much "underhanded"? S/he is reveal his/her true face at the end of the League?
Picture a guy that tries to make life a living hell for Ash, but without him knowing. He's not overly sweet, he's just good at what he does. Ash would even treat him like a friend.

And yes, the league would be an awesome time to reveal it.
