If Brock Should Leave Why Not Team Rocket

This is something that has bothered me for awhile, why is it that it's okay to say that the Pokémon Producers should get rid of Brock because he's become boring now when you can say the same thing about Team Rocket.

I know this can be considered controversial because Team Rocket has a very loyal fanbase and I know there is going to be about 1001 reasons given why I'm wrong, but hear me out for a moment.

With Brock it's all about that he's become a one-note joke. He cooks for the gang, he takes care of their Pokémon and he gets crushs on every girl his age or older.

Team Rcoket is really the same thing. Yes, they do have TONS of character development (to the point that it causes continuity problems) and Jessie not only is in contests. She's now can even win in them.

In the end of the day though the basic idea of the TR characters remain. They try to catch Pikachu or character of the day Pokémon. They use some farfetched scheme that ultimately fails and they go blasting off once more (sometimes more than once in the episode).

Brock is like the older brother, Ash never had. He takes care of Ash with advice on Pokémon, feeds him, is a good friend when he needs him, and when the rare occurance comes he actually a great battler. Plus, he now has Croagunk, which has become his signature Pokémon (in Hoenn it did seem for a time that Ludicolo was going to be given that honor until the writers realized he had Mudkip and it wan't getting enough screen time. LOL).

Really, can't we just accept that Brock is here to stay. He's the show's sidekick and when he gets the rare spotlight episode it's usually a great episode (the same with TR). Brock is every bit a part of the show as Ash, Pikachu, or Team Rocket.

If not then why should he get the boot and not TR.

That's my two cents.

Okay then, READY. . . SET. . .DEBATE.

I don't see why one should stay while the other one has to go. Both are serving their purposes very well.

Also, Team Rocket's actually very amusing since they're portrayed as sympathetic villains.

If we're calling into question why these characters should stay the course of the series at large then I say if the writers would put Brock and Jessie, James, and Meowth in less threadbare situations with more attention to character (with more breathing space and what have you) then I'm of the assumption that most fans wouldn't have the peeves they're having with the characters. Brock would be achieving infinitely more by successfully finding a partner with whom to share love and ardor. I'd also like to see Brock fulfill his goal of becoming a better Pokémon breeder, amongst other greats, instead of.... doing what he always does. Him being around so much impedes Ash's growth through my eyes and it doesn't help that Brock's departures and returns were so abrupt.

Brock explaining Ash and company's actions (as well as Pokémon information) can be a help but redundant enough to be droll. I just find his obsession with hitting almost every woman he sees more a vexation than amusing (though I'm not going to chalk it up to "ego" given that I see "ego" as a way of making selections and choices, more simply, to be philosophical, and I don't see Brock's attempts as arrogance as much as an uncontrollable urge). I clamor for the calmer and more reserved character we had in the beginning of the series, but that's just me. As for Jessie, James, and Meowth... they've been given much development (so it's not necessarily mischaracterization abounded) but I think their characters have much greater capacity and could be doing a lot more than what they're limited to doing - being trite (albeit interesting often enough) comedic relief villains.

But it isn't about what's used so much as how what's used is used in this case. Justification. I don't mind if any of them to stay, so long as their potential is fulfilled.

My main complaint against TR right now is that I'm bored with their 'mons.
Their uniforms have also gotten rather dull. They've been wearing the same threads for over 11 years and almost 600 episodes. Nyarth (Meowth in the Japanese version)also has a really screetchy voice, but I've gotten used to it.

I can see why people are starting to get bored with them. I was looking at screenshots the other day and my friend (which I have in real life) pointed out "Wow, they haen't changed at all!"

Bottom line: I think they should get new clothes and new pokemon to keep things from geting stale.

We all know the fandom will be disgusted if they get replaced or kicked off; so this is a good compromise.

I don't know how you can get bored with their Pokemon.... I mean, even if their personalities aren't out there, they're still great to look at, and actually have more potential than before.

Now about the clothes, I agree with you on that. Someone needs to stitch something up, probably their executive clothes in that Slakoth filler in Hoenn.

There's no need for any of these characters to leave the show. We know they're among the constants; the only variable is the antagonistic female coordinator. I think Takeshi could be utilized a little more as the focus of an episode or two on occasion, but the Rocket-dan are fine the way they are - and frankly, I wouldn't want them to leave the show, since there have been numerous occasions where their mere presence rescues an otherwise boring episode from mediocrity.

So you want to make me stop watching the series for good by taking away the only characters I care about? Very well then. :disgust:

I actually like Brock sometimes and I don't see why he should leave show or TR either, I like them both and when Brock does get his time on an episode, its usually good.

Like for example in the Hoenn episode where Max wanted the poochyama to evolve into Mightyena and Brock explained the process of evolution in pokemon.

TR's storylines may occationally get boring becuase they tend always to do similar things at times, but their good for being the "failing villins"

Yeah, I agree on the clothes, they do need changing/updating, I mean, who wears the same clothes all the time anyway? (exception for uniforms for various things and minus when they are in contests and wear contest clohes)

Not again... stop saying it like it's 100%
Dawn is the first character to be showcased as an equal to Ash (and even has a Poké that is shown as equal to Pika)
So you can't use past "patterns" because Dawn isn't just "the girl who travel with Ash" like before but actually "the girl that star together with Ash as equals"
We never had this before and after years of seeing them as equals in both the show itself and on merchandise it'd be hard to remove Dawn/Pip

Of course my opinion isn't 100% as well and I admit I'm likely to get disappointed... but I hate it when people talk like they know the future... we can't know what the writers will decide to do

I'm so going to laugh at everyone if eventually Dawn will stay
And no - you can't laugh at me if she leave since I do see this other possibility unlike others who think there's only one thing that is going to happen for sure

Anyway... back to topic?
Brock is boring, doesn't really do much, his purpose as the "older brother" became ridiculous since Ash played that role to May and Max, Ash and Dawn clearly learn from him so they should be able to survive without him (and the Orange Islands proved Brock isn't that necessary as some think)

I'd like TRio to change and be "good guys" and be recurring characters that appear a lot or even every episode like they do now

A third in a row girly girl Coordinator with cute Poké? to do it once was alright, to do it again (and again and again for each new generation) is just ridiculpus and I believe they might see it
Also Brock might be the one to be "replaced" next time... he isn't really that "permament character" as people make him be... remember he wasn't in OI (Ash, Pika, TRio - are the only "permament" ones who really never left)

Pilup, this thread is not about Dawn so please, don't bring your usual flame here.

Anyway, I admitt I am slightly biased here, because I am one of a few who hate Brock since the very begining of the show. Abd now, as Pilup wrote, Brock is very boring. I hardly can say so about TR. But unforunatelly, writers obviously, for some some strange reason, don't want Brock to leave. So, our only hope is Yuuji Ueda gets some more lucrative role and leaves Pokémon Anime. But even after that, I am not sure if they rather will not recast Takeshi instead of let him leave and make me finally happy.

"flame"?
I wasn't even the one who brought up Dawn in this thread - you can blame the one who decided to mention them
I won't stop to say this every time someone say this as a fact

I blame you, because you are the one who goes through every thread and jump on every mention about Dawn. There's no such reason for you to do so, because I doubt there's someone on BMGf who already don't know your opinion on this topic. Sorry, but usually, it's your post who start the flame, so please, calm yourself down.
And for others, please don't bring Dawn and her Piplup into topics that's not involved about them, so we will be save from Piplup's throlling.

Ummm. . . . This is about Brock and Team Rocket, not Dawn. If you want to discuss if she is staying or going that's for another thread.

Anyway, I don't see why Brock can't stay. He was gone during the Orange Islands, but that was a breif side-quest and not a entire long arc like say Hoenn or Sinnoh.

As PDL said, "Both are serving their purposes very well".

I don't see why so many fans want to see Brock go and not TR since both characters personalities have largely remain unchanged since the show began.

I have nothing against either Brock or Team Rocket. I happend to like both characters since Season One and don't want to see either of them go. As long as TR is staying and doing the same thing they usual do then why not Brock?

Team Rocket are funny. Brock isn't.

I don't know Brock does have his moments, like in the recent dub episode, "Cream of the Croagunk Crop!", when Brock comes to Nurse Joy's "rescue" thinking that Hamilton, wanted to marry her. Then when Brock finds out that Nurse Joy has a Croagunk, he goes on to have this big fantasy scene of himself marrying Nurse Joy with their Croagunk together. I thought it was a funny.

I agree, TR has more of their moments of being funny than Brock nowadays. It's weird and sad how way early in the show it was the other way around.

If Brock does leave in the near future I don't know if I'll be upset over it.
