As the title, if he do, it maybe boring to watch the same gym battle twice since Ash is traveling with his rival, but that will surely make some good chemical reaction like share of experiences and useful combination. And so, one can lose before another challenge the gym, and after watching the previous battle, the other may be cautious about the mistake, and the other may learn something before he/she re-challenge the gym. They may also practice battle from time to time before challenging in the league. Do you support the idea?

For myself, i would like to see it happen, so i cast the first vote :p

I would like you to state the reason of your vote if you can :)

Yeah it would be cool to see that happen. That way the secondary boy doesn't fade in the background and can be shipped as an individual. I don't know if the boy has to be a trainer too or not, but he could do gyms and something else too so that it doesn't get boring. I mean doing gyms most of the time is sometimes boring as it is, so it would be nice to spice things up. Maybe the boy could do different gyms from Ash so that it doesn't seem repeatitive.

Yeah, like BW2 have new gym leaders appearing, so they can fight a different set of gym leaders too :)
Take Gen 5 as example:
Ash/Cilan, Rival/Cress
Ash/Lenora, Rival/Lenora (Same Leader)
Ash/Burgh, Rival/Homika......... (something like this pattern)

I would really like for Ash to travel with his main rival. It would be a nice change of pace.

I don't really care. While I wish to see something like Ash and Gary travelling together, I don't think it'll be much of a huge impact in future episodes with other rivals.

For starters, I'm not much of a battling person when it comes to watching the show, but still...

I'm not a fan of us watching every single gym be challenged by more than one person. The redundance of it to me'd be stronger than the freshness of it. (That sounds oxymoronic actually.) There'd also be the lack of mystery of what Ash's rival is doing to train, behind the scenes. For me this mystery isn't really suspenseful (since I'm not much of a battling person), but I think it's way too significant to get rid of.

So no...

I also vote no, mostly because I feel that rivalries are best suited for individuals to take different paths and different approaches to training Pokémon. If Ash saw his rival's training style, and his rival saw his, then they both would already know how best to counter the other. It kind of defeats the whole purpose of being a rival if you already know everything about the other.

Plus, the rivalry would get stale, since they'd be together all the time. I like it when rivals show up after an extended absence except Trip because you get to see how many badges they have, what new Pokémon they have, and how much stronger they've become. It's better for Ash that way too because then he has to learn to improvise and adapt.

Traveling with Trip? Hell yeah!

It says "future gen" quite clearly in the title; don't post if you're not going to answer the actual topic please.

I'm not so sure about rivals traveling together long-term. I could probably see it for some short-term crisis where they're forced to team up until said crisis is resolved.

Maybe a past rival. I would have loved to see say, after Orange Islands, Ash, Misty, and Gary.

Re: If it ever happens, will you like Ash to travel with his main rival in future gen

The main rival? No. But I wouldn't mind him travelling with a previous rival. A trio featuring Ash/Gary/X would be entertaining to watch, but the third member would have to be written really well to have any impact alongside the Ash/Gary interaction. Ash/Barry would also be interesting to see...but travelling with the main rival (at the time) hinders the competition more than it benefits them, imo.

No, not with his main rival. I think it's best when he crosses paths with his rivals every once in a while to see how far the other has advanced, it makes the battles much more exciting. If they were training along side one another, it wouldn't be a surprise if Satoshi's main rival's Pokemon evolved. I'm not sure how well it would work if Satoshi was traveling with his main rival all the time.

For me, they both knowing the other's strategy will make them keep countering each other, so the result will not be easily predicted.

Well, Ash is like he did not expect his rival's Pokemon evolves every time , look, it is like expecting his rival to be weak for me. If he actually know how strong his rival is (Yeah, just like what he do with Paul), he will seek improvement, just like what he did in 4th gen, instead of keep traveling here and there without improving the skill at all.

Re: If it ever happens, will you like Ash to travel with his main rival in future gen

When one of them does win a gym battle, why would he stick around the town waiting for his rival to win his match? Wouldn't he want to keep moving forward to other gyms to try to stay ahead?

Rivals traveling together... just does not work.

No, the idea of two gym challengers in one group sounds tiring enough, we'd have to go to twice the amount of gyms in order to fill the quota (without repeats, though I'm sure repeats and off-screen victories would be inevitable). How would you like it if YOU traveled with your rival? (Fangirls...do not answer this question XD) There's no element of surprise, and it's less competitive since you tend to learn all your rival's secrets. Plus, the differences in their battling style would become less apparent, depending on how much they influence each other.

Re: If it ever happens, will you like Ash to travel with his main rival in future gen

Would be kinda new and interesting. I can actually see them going for it. Ash-Cilan/Iris-rival that trio would be a treat for sure :D

Re: If it ever happens, will you like Ash to travel with his main rival in future gen

That sounds... terrible actually.

What is the real difference between a "rivalry" and a regular friendship? A Rivalry usually has an element of clashing opinions. But apart from that, there isn't much of a difference. They are usually antagonistic towards each other. Would you want to travel with someone who constantly put you down? Ash already has to deal with Iris's complaining.

Also having two characters going towards the same goal would be extremely boring since we would just be seeing the same thing done twice.

Overexposure of that antagonistic element would get extremely dull over time. You want to see an example of what would happen if Ash and a rival had to meet every episode? It would be just like Team Rocket in the first few seasons.

Re: If it ever happens, will you like Ash to travel with his main rival in future gen

Well what do you mean by main rival? Do you mean the person in question would be Ash's friend but also the biggest threat to him as a trainer at the time? Like Traveling with Ritchie. Or do you mean like a rival who he hates but he travels with do to a "enemy mine" scernario like a big bad? In both cases I'm all for it but if he were to say travel with Paul in DP with Paul having no attitude difference than that wouldn't make sence.

But other the gym leader issue WHICH HAS FUCKING SOLUTIONS. There is no reason for Ash not to travel with another trainer since Ash's friends are pretty pointless. Yes they can be useful but if Ash wasn't so stupid he would have never needed Brock and Misty. I still think Misty should have enter the league I mean she battles and not doing so because she's a specialist only makes Misty look dumb for specializing.

And all these other goals are either boring, don't make sense or are stupid. Given the culture it's a miracle Ash found these people with the exception of Dawn and May. And if his friends aren't battling how can I believe they are useful in combat. Yet they are. Even though especially in the original series Ash and Cotd's do most of they work.

Quite true and yes, I really wanted him to travel with a trainer who is as well participating in the league. But someone like Paul, they just too much in contrary in terms of attitude and will not make sense....... so, practically just make another happy go lucky trainer like Ash. :p
