If it gets made, what do you want in MD 2?

Originally, this was going to be a post in the main MD thread, but since that thread was already waay off topic to begin with (originally it was a "Which Pokemon are you?" thread), I thought I'd post it here.

What changes do you want made to Mystery Dungeon 2, were they to make one?

They need to remedy the difficulty level of the boss battles for MD 2, if there is one. Really, those things are easier than some of the single Pokemon battles on the way to them. I beat Regirock in Ancient Relic just recently with a few Sticks and Flamethrowers- the other team members (Shuppet and Absol) didn't do squat. The Explosions were annoying, though.

That, and the escort missions can leave permanently, or at least get some smarter clients. Seriously, the clients in those things are suicidal or something, wandering off while you're busy trying to defend them from something else, getting in a battle (usually with something they're weak to), and going through all your Reviver Seeds before you can come and rescue them, thus screwing you over, usually at an inopportune time in the game. You don't even get the Rollcall Orb till after the main storyline, which is what really bothers me- if you could buy those during the main game, it might not be such a bad thing (Yes, I have used Escape Orbs, religiously taking one with me every mission, in fact, but to have a client whose friend is on B25F go through all your Reviver Seeds and force you to Escape on B24F is rather Sisyphean- "I have to go through all that AGAIN?!" Cue cursing from Neku. True story. Not as bad, though, as your stupid Minun client running off and getting KO'd by Spinarak while you're trying to bring him back over to the Plusle 10 squares down.)

The game REALLY needs to fix its resource system. Losing items after failing=annoying, especially after spending 8000 Poke on X-Ray Specs (which are the greatest hold item EVER for item junkies/escort missions). The money penalty's not so bad, but losing items can stop.

Finally, more constant shop stock. Yes, I know constantly changing stock is kind of another opportunity to strategize, by means of resource management (should I buy this item to use later?), but a few necessities that are always available (Reviver Seeds, Oran Berries, etc), alongside specialty items (Pecha Scarf, most hold items) would be nice.

I think that's pretty much a given, though. All three previous gens are in MD...

Well then, I would like more towns to visit then just one. Like, a town for each type maybe?

The idea is that you can be transported directly to each dungeon so only one town is necessary. Not that I would be against a larger overworld. Actually, I think Mega Man Zero did something like that...

And yeah, the AI needs some tweaking. (Damn Omanyte moving along the water rather than behind me and getting killed by a Nosepass because of it. >_>) I know of a game in development which sounds like it will have a good AI model but it probably won't get <s>much</s> any attention in Japan which is a shame...

There needs to be a good plot. With the main RPGs that would just just be a nice addition but the plot of MD was really good, even giving me the motivation to get through the most frustrating part of the game. (Moltres) To be a worthy sequal, it needs to have a matching plot.

The trap system needs an overhaul. Making it completely random is just annyoing, especially as they are in practically every dungeon unlocked after the credits.

So yeah... work on the negatives and keep the positives fresh.

No more dungeon "time-limit". As in, when you stay in one room too long, you get the messages "Something's stirring", followed by "Something's coming", and then, if you don't haul ass outta there, you fail the dungeon.

I second the smarter AI. I mean, seriously, I can't believe how stupid your teammates (and clients) can be! (One annoying one: them constantly using moves such as Growth, Swords Dance, etc. whenever an enemy is in the room.) At least getting the "Trap Avoider" IQ skill is a huge help when it comes to your teammates avoiding traps, but why isn't there a "Don't wander off and get yourself killed" IQ skill? And what's worse, with clients, you can't even control tactics, so you can't command them to "Wait there", you gotta chase them down. The clients definitely need to be able to be controlled by Tactics.

No quicksaving before entering dungeons! The three fields and Mt. Faraway require that, and it essentially screws you if you get into trouble. If you switch off, you lose all your items, since the quicksave data is deleted. If you live with losing, you lose half your items, as always. That frustrated the hell out of me.

And, finally, why on earth did they disable recruiting in Tiny Woods? If they enabled recruiting, Pidgey and Exeggcute wouldn't be ridiculously rare and hard to track down! (Both are only recruitable in Howling Woods, and god do I hate Howling Woods now....) I also find it ironic how rare they made Magikarp in Waterfall Pond.

Agreed. Even with Tactics set to "Let's go together", you end up with wayward team mates.

I guess the clients are supposed to be independent. But even then, isn't it only natural to want to tell someone you're supposed to be protecting " Stay here and don't get yourself killed?" Basic logic, right?

There's a reason escort missions are such a maligned game cliche... Nothing like guiding around a moron who doesn't know to get into fights with Pokemon that could eat him for breakfast.

As other people have said - smarter AI, the 100 new Pokemon, more items available in shops, ability to use items in the overworld (so you can level up with Joy Seeds withut having to go into a dungeon), no more quicksave dungeons purposefully designed to make you lose your items, and the ability to know how deep a dungeon is. Oh, and tougher bosses and less tough random enemies.

Also, some attacks need to be altered. Like Protect and Endure are ridiculously uber because they last for like 5 turns each.

You don't even get the Rollcall Orb till after the main storyline,

I'm pretty sure I picked one up in either Magma Cavern, Sky Tower or Howling Forest (I can't remember, but it was late-game).

All I want to know is...WHAT IS THAT DAMNED UNSEEN FORCE?!?!? Then again...That could have a REALLY good plot behind it...I might write a fic.

WRONG. Then we wouldn't have threads about it! Anyway, we should be allowed to evolve earlier. Because apparently you can't until AFTER you beat the game once.

Well like Habunake said, I'd like to see more than one twon. And if it's a town for each type, then I'd like to see a Makuhita training ground in each one with an "E4" of sorts with different rescue teams in a dungeon.

That's actually a good thing story-wise. You lose the closeness to the characters after the credits, though that is an unfortunate gameplay necessity.

Yes. It isn't so much the gameplay that is compelling, but that the characters and storyline are compelling.

Now... the question is... what premise will they use for PMD 2 if they do not reuse this one? Is it possible to have any other premise - is the concept of a rescue team integral to the genre?
