If Nidoran had been a Gen IV Pokemon...

Do you think if Nidoran had been introduced in Generation IV instead of Generation I, it would have been a single species, with male and female variants and a branched evolution depending on its gender?

Nidoran would have been a single species and what it evolves into would have depended on gender. Gen I has many problems like this that would have never occured in later generations.

I actually believe that it would be a single species as well, but instead of evolving into two different branches based on gender,you can find both male and female nidoran as they are now,separate, like East and West Shellos

Nidoran should've been a Gen IV Pokemon (with split-evos). But, I still consider the male and female as separate species.
