If Pokemon were real would you force yours to battle?

If pokemon existed in our world, would you force your team to battle? I...don't think i'd have the heart to use them in battles.Yeah i can heal them at the Pokemon Center, but i couldn't stand seeing them getting hurt, burned, poisoned, electrocuted, etc. I sometimes wonder how trainers can stand to see there Pokemon go through that. It's considered a team effort and many pokemon are happy to battle for there trainers, but i imagine it's a hard thing to watch your pokemon get beaten up bad or knocked out. It's a different subject, but the same thing with real pets, i couldn't stand to see my dog get beat up by another dog, because it's something that would tear me apart, seeing him suffer.

Fortunately, Pokemon don't suffer the same injuries as the dogs used in dogfighting. I believe Satoshi Tajiri was very adamant about that.

It's why I was happy with the discovery of contests in Gen III and onwards. If I could train a Pokemon, I'd be a coordinator instead of raising my Pokemon to fight.

I don't like the choice of wording you used at all. In general, you HAVE to battle to capture new pokemon. Also, some pokemon want to battle and become stronger. Is that really a bad thing? Reality doesn't entirely apply here, and if we're talking if we all lived in the pokemon world, chances are we wouldn't see problem with battling with our pokemon, due to the fact it's a common occurrence and people there obviously see no problem in it.

I would participate in pokemon battles, but that doesn't mean I'd be some heartless person who makes their pokemon battle until they can't anymore. You can still be friends with your pokemon and take part in pokemon battles. It's not a matter of 'forcing them to fight' because fighting =/= battling. There's a slight difference (in my view) in the definition. And not every trainer who battles will force their pokemon into it.

Seeing as Pokemon was built around the whole battling thing yes I would. Also as NyaChan said above you have to battle with Pokemon to be able to obtain more for your team.

Well, you need to battle to get more Pokemon[as Nyachan said] and ... well, if I would use a Pokemon, it would be for the sole purpose af battling and protecting myself. Not that I would be Gary Oak II, but of course they would be my best friends as well.

I wouldn't force mine to battle. They would be given the choice. 'cept my gardevoir :3

They're pokemon. That's what their purpose is. And they like it.

Oh, just remembered something:

You also have to battle to train your pokemon, so even contests require battling.

So even becoming a coordinator rather than a 'trainer', you would still need to participate in battles, otherwise your pokemon would never learn new moves, evolve, or anything else requiring 'level up' (I put that in quotes because if pokemon were real there wouldn't be defined leveling up).

not exactly... Rare Candies? Though, you'd have to be pretty fucking rich to get those.

Only problem is you gain more EXP from battling.

And they would battle if they were real and i had some. After all, to catch 'em all, you gotta battle.

I agree with Jerematic, I'd give them the choice if they wanted to battle or not. Its very rare that a Pokemon is seriously injuried in battle. The worst we've really seen was when Ash battled Paul in the full battle, and I honestly believe Paul and his team fully intended to hurt Ash's Pokemon. Pokemon probably hold back most of the time, so they don't seriously hurt each other, but Paul has no restraint, I wouldn't be that type of trainer.

I wouldn't force them, no, but if that's what they wanted, then sure. Pokémon are clearly depicted as fairly intelligent creatures, who can convey their feelings and emotions just as well as humans can, and I certainly wouldn't want them to be unhappy.

I agree completelly with this post.
I see pokemon battling sort of like martial arts, including the phylosophic aspects of them.
Battling with pokemon does increase the bonds between them and their trainer, they like you more and not the oppposite. They dislike you and get frustrated when defeated becouse you haven't been able to train them well enough.
On the other hand, going into really difficult fights with them, such as a leader battle, and winning, makes them happier. Not becouse simply they are stronger than the opponent's pokemon, but becouse you have proven to be a good enough trainer and they've been useful to you in a difficult task.
The basic idea is that true friends are those that stay together through hardships.

Now, would I suffer seeing my pokemon paralyzed and being attacked? Certainly. It's why I wouldn't like to lose battles. But preciselly I'd train them so they wouldn't get in a hopeless situation. And I'd train myself to know what orders to give in what moment, instead of having it merelly struggle against everything like a wild pokemon.
So yeah, I'd train.

I'm not saying all my pokemon would be forced to battling. If I see one just doesn't like it, I'll care about it in some other way.

I would probably battle with my pokemon, because it would be fun, and it helps strengthen bonds between the pokemon and you.
And about the getting hurt and so on, well, im pretty sure pokemon dont feel pain as easily as real animals would. i mean, they have magical powers for heavens sake!
now, if pokemon really did get easily injured, i wouldnt battle with them, but they dont. so its all good :)

o_O Was it really necessary to type that all backwards?

I personally would love to partake in battles, but I wouldn't force my Pokemon to do it if they didn't want to.
