If the anime human characters became Pokémon...

"...What would they turn into?"​

Basically, imagine that the various human characters have been turned into Pokémon either by magic or by ending up in the Mystery Dungeon world.

Did you imagine it? Good. Now write down into which species they have been turned and why do you think so. I'll start with some suggestions of mine, related to the three main human characters.

∙ Ash -> Riolu

This is mainly related to his strong connection with aura, as well as his role in both the Lucario movie, the Pokémon Ranger special about Aura Sphere Riolu and the legend about the Aura Guardian who defeated Spiritomb with the help of a Pikachu. Also, the Riolu line is known for its incredible athletic feats, and Ash has shown some athletic talents in some circumstances. Besides, they both wear blue, so they are pretty good together.

∙ Jessie -> Female Pyroar

Between the iconic hairstyle, the elegance of the two, their fiery personality, their mutual connections with an evil organization (Jessie with Team Rocket and Pyroar with Team Flare), and the attitude of a leader, I find this match absolutely perfect. I mean, Jessie even used "Flamethrower" once, so there's the proof.

∙ James -> Mareanie

I blame SM for that, but wow! They look sooo much alike, to the point that I wonder if Game Freak took inspiration from James to draw Mareanie. Aside of their "hair" color, I would find it ironic that James turns into an unhuggable critter, especially considering that he is quite prone to painful "hugs".

Another match which I think could somewhat work is with Alolan Meowth. This could be a nod to Meowth himself and to the fact that Alolan Meowth were raised in wealth, which basically mirror somewhat James's past. Also, they both collect shiny objects, with James collecting bottle cups (bring them back, anime!) and Meowth collecting coins.

Alain- Charizard

You can pretty much tell the guy was designed while keeping Mega Charizard X in mind.

He also fits in with Charizard personality wise, with that eternal desire of not wanting to lose, and protecting his friends.

Misty- Beedrill or Squirtle
I personally find this a bit ironic due to her fear of bug types, but Misty as a beedrill makes a LOT of sense. Misty can always flare up in anger like Beedrill, but can also prove a loyal partner if 'tamed'. She can prove her ability at almost anything if challenged.

Squirtle is my second choice. Misty has a teasing side (the Squirtle-Bulbasaur dyanamic comes to mind), a playful side, a battle-ready side. And Ash's Squirtle's training with some wartortle reminded me of Misty and her sisters.

Mairin - Chespin

I think they both have a humorous side (Mairin's not so much as Clemont) but it's clear the two were made for each other.

Yeah, same thing with these two.

Contrary to popular belief, I don't think Ash's character was designed keeping Pikachu in mind since the same Ash was to receive Clefairy instead of Pikachu before Pika became more popular. But maybe they make a few last minute tweaks to Ash's character for him to fit him in with Pikachu.

Though after all these years, Ash and Pikachu fit with each other, just like Sky and clouds do with each other.

Drew and a shiny Roselia, due to the fact that his colour scheme bears striking resemblance to a shiny Roselia. He was definitely designed with that Pokemon in mind.

To be honest, Tobias was 1:1 modelled after Darkrai, so not sure about Dawn.

Those two are perfect matches, gotta agree!

I actually was think about something else for Misty. I actually can picture her as a Primarina, mainly due to her affinity to water, along with this:

Also, her in-game counterpart is also known as "The Tomboyish Mermaid", so having a mermaid-like appearance would fit.

Otherwise, I have seen a mention of her turning into a Bug-type as an ironic twist. Well, this makes me wonder… how would she react if she was turned into a Surskit, Wimpod or… a Dewpider? Would she like her appearance or be freaked out by it, especially if she turned into the last one? Or would she feel at ease due to being Water-types?

Similar thing with Iris eventually becoming a Kyurem and Cilan turning into a Purrloin.
