If the writers were to do a Champion League, what would Ash's best choices be?

Which of Ash's pokemon are the best choices to get him far in a champions only tournament?

Charizard and Sceptile are basically must haves for such a tournament. I'd say Infernape would also be a possible choice considering his development. And we shouldn't be surprised is Snorlax is rolled out for the event as well.

I like this team and I mean I really don't see any of his Unova Pokemon being league worthy in a sense (well at this point anyway). If anything Swellow and Heracross would be neck and neck in terms of making a more balanced team. Infernape because of Blaze is the only reason I'd put 2 fire types on the same team.

1. Charizard- this one is the most obvious

2. Pikachu- a powerful electric type, very useful vs water types

3. Sceptile/Bulbasaur- Sceptile is fully evolved and more powerful. On the other hand, Bulbasaur has attacks like Leech seed to wear down the opposition.

4. Snorlax- Snorlax has always been a powerhouse, and can usually take out atleast two strong pokemon

5. Squirtle/Buizel- I feel a water type is important for the team. Squirtle is more experienced, but on the other hand, Buizel knows ice punch which can be very useful vs grass and dragon types

6. Infernape/Heracross/Swellow-Any of these three would be a good pick. Since Charizard is already a very powerful fire type, perhaps Infernape could be used more as a fighting type. You could make a case for Heracross or Swellow as well

Other possible options: Glaile, Donohan, Staraptor

I love Bayleef and Quilava but feel that Ash has better options avaibale with fire and grass types. I don't think Corpish and Tododile are good enough either. Gible is too inexperienced. The likes of Torkoal, Muk, Tauros, Noctowl etc are all good pokemon, just not quite good enough for the championship league.

That was pretty much my exact pick too. Other pokes worth a champion battle would be Glalie and Swellow. Its a shame none of his water types really stand out as powerhouses, to the same calibre as say Sceptile or Infernape. Too early to tell with his Unova Pokes, maybe Krookodile will stand out, if it ever learns a fourth move

Pikachu- Also arguable his strongest and his only good weapon against Flying types if Charizard goes down

Sceptile- Ash's speed and attack option

Kingler/Buizel/Squirtle- Ash needs a Water type on his team and these are his best choices. I'd probably go Buizel.

Snorlax- Ash's major tank.

Infernape- A Wild Card as well as a speedy, hard hitting mon.
