If there are R/S remakes, what will happen to May/Haruka?

my apologies if this is a fail thread or has already been asked somewhere, I'm not used to making them myself.

we've had Red/Blue/Green/Yellow which didn't have a female protagonist at all, and then FR/LG that had Leaf.
and then, we've had Kris from Crystal either exchanged or scrapped in favor of Kotone for HG/SS.

so this is my question -- if they remake R/S, would May be scrapped/exchanged as well, or would she remain mostly as is?

well... if they decide to become "creative", they will scrap either May/Brendan... I guess more than likely Brendan though...

Well, b/c they were both in Ruby and Sapphire, they will likely stay. But, GF has become crazy lately.

Majority of the elements from Crystal are from are in HGSS. :/ "Kris" is not any more important than Eusine. I thought the "it's not a crystal remake" stuff was over.

Who knows? Let's wait for the 5th gen to see. Judging by a pattern, she will be either vastly redesigned or replaced since Leaf's RGBY prototype was vastly redesigned and the Crystal girl was replaced (or vastly redesigned).

I think at most she will have another wardrobe change, like the R/S ---> Emerald clothing change.

- May is not Kris. May was in her entire generation, R/S/E compared to Kris' one game, Crystal.

- May had a starring role in the anime, which alone makes her more well known than Kris ever became.

- May's character design already fits the current fanservice standard they have going for the current female designs. There's no reason to see some girly girl take her place.

- Dude, its May. Why would GameFreak purposely remove one of the franchises most well known characters from game canon?

I agree with everything you said. :)

Kris also had her own anime counterpart, and she (the counterpart) has continued to make [minor] cameo appearances throughout Shinnoh. Although Kotone could just as easily end up "replacing" her there, too. (And her friends will likely throw Jimmy out the door too >_>)
Yes May is more known because she had an anime counterpart, but it doesn't make her anymore unique than Kris, who also had a anime counterpart, allbeit a more minor one.

Otherwise, you completely have stated why May would not be booted from any R/S/E remakes we get...provided there is indeed a Gen V. (We could just as easily get the other pair of remakes before then though.) If they gave May the boot, that'd just be stupid.

It's much more minor. Kris had one special that aired in 2001 and a few non-speaking cameos. May was a main character for 200 episodes, 4 movies, and was the first main girl of the games to have a big role in the show. She's also the first coordinator of the series, and Contests were introduced into the anime via her.

In terms of the games, she's equally more important. R/S/E combined sold more copies than Crystal alone. Of course we're comparing the sales of three games to one, obviously they sold more. So theoretically, more people played a game with May in it than Kris. Even if you play as Brendan, May is still there as a rival character.

I don't see them removing her, or Dawn, if their gens are remade.

Thing with May is, she actually had an active role already.

From what I've heard, the opposite gender rival doesn't even have that big a role in HGSS either.

She'll probably stay, since unlike Kris or Leaf, she actually plays a role in the game if you play as a male.

They probably wouldn't remove May (or Brendan) so the point is moot.

Where people got the idea that GameFreak loves replacing female characters is beyond me, it only happened once since Kris was not in the original GS.

May is, sadly, a more fleshed out character than Kris ever was. She even played a huge role in the anime. If we do get RS remakes (and we will) May will remain exactly as she was... or at least as exactly as the remake allows.

If May does get replaced when a RS remake is ever confirmed, do you guys think the fandom reaction would be better or worse than Soul replacing Kris? I feel the latter since, like many said, May is very more well known.

I call it- "SHE'S NOT MAY!" "NOT GOOD SUGIMORI!"

I have a lengthy response, but I won't bother posting it because there's no point and we won't get RSEmakes for several years now.

Let's at least wait till' the 5th gen starts because there's no point wondering what will happen to May now since we won't know until several years.

You're definitely right. We probably won't see RSE remakes anytime soon but I always wondered what would happen if and when we ever get them. More specifically, how the fandom would react to May's fate either way. Or how the fandom would react in general.
