If you were one of the writers of the Pokemon anime, how would you handle things? Is there some events you would've written differently? Are there any future ideas you would like to see implemented?

- If I could write certain things, I would've retired Ash a lot earlier to open up space for new protagonists.

- Boy protagonists like Lucas, Brendan, Calem etc. would be more than just a cameo. They would have a prominent role in the anime.

- Jessie's mother, Miyamoto, would appear in the anime and her disappearance would be explained.

- Wally would've been a rival to Ash in Hoenn.

- Arven would appear more in Horizons.

- Team Plasma from BW1 would appear in the anime and their role would be much bigger.

- The Ultra Recon Squad would appear in the anime and have a prominent role. Their homeland would be explored.

- Jessie, James and Meowth would realize there's more to life than Team Rocket and trying to catch Pikachu. They would leave to pursue their individual dreams such as Jessie wanting to be a top coordinator and Meowth wanting to make delicious noodles.

Version 1

I'd have Ash vs Paul in the finals considering they were by far the two best trainers in the entire Sinnoh League when excluding Tobias.

For BW I'd have a new protagonist replacing Ash and this would immediately make Trip a better rival.

Ash vs Gladion becomes a full battle and Kukui is actually in the Alola League instead of just battling in an exhibition.

Paul returns in the anime as an official gym leader at the Viridian Gym and is shown battling a random trainer using Torterra, Electivire and Ursaluna/Bloodmoon Ursaluna.

---------------------------------------------------------

Version 2

Ash uses Charizard, Peakachu, Sceptile, Snorlax, Swellow and Heracross against Tobias allowing the viewers to see more of his lineup and not headcanoning him owning a Magikarp.

Charizard returns and faces off against that Reshiram that was shown in the BW opening. This let's us see how much stronger Charizard has truly gotten since last appearing in AG. That little sparring match with Iris's Jobbernite and an off screen battle with Infernape didn't cut it.

Paul and Gary finally meet each other in a random episode and ends in a 3 on 3 battle.

I think some of Ash's Pokemon should have evolved (obviously not all of them) like how Bulbasaur and Snivy could have evolved to their middle evolutions.

Team Plasma should've been in the anime earlier. I know what happened in Japan happened but they could have just rewritten if it was possible instead of waiting until BW2.

Ash wins earlier. Maybe in Gen 4 or 6.

- I'd have given Roy a completely different Pokémon that can mega evolve. In addition Liko would also get one after taking an interest in Mega Evolution which would further help her to understand the feelings of Pokémon.

- Alain would not have been part of the Masters Eight and someone else would have had his spot. He would instead have appeared in his own episode (and still make a silent cameo during Ash vs Leon).

- Since it's clear they have no clue what to do with Friede I would have kept the whole Friede betraying the RVT plotline (with some small buildup) and still have the Spinel stuff happen after Gibeon's defeat. That way it would explain why Friede's been gone for so long and would make Roy becoming the new leader make much more sense.

- Team Rocket would have been either been written out after Alola staying behind with their new family or get a full conclusion in Journeys. Basically Giovanni launching an all out attack after Ash defeats Leon and then after he's defeated the TRio moving on to their new lives.

- Amethio would have joined the RVT crew and Ult wouldn't exist.

- Ash would have beaten Trip early on in B&W so the dumb Snivy controversy never happened.

- Dawn's return episodes in Journeys would have been ABOUT Dawn and not just her being used as window dressing for boring Legendary/Mythical Pokémon crap. Some of her Pokémon would have evolved as well.

- After Ash's retirement as the main protagonist the old universe would be retired right then and there as well. Horizons would be acknowledged as a new universe instead of being left in the dark on if it is or isn't (I think it is the same universe).

I would give the Explorers more character development, and try to even out the pacing of the events post timeskip.

Since it's clear they have no clue what to do with Friede I would have kept the whole Friede betraying the RVT plotline (with some small buildup) and still have the Spinel stuff happen after Gibeon's defeat. Yeah same here tbh. This would have been great.
Either this, or make the Friede hiding from the Explorers make more sense in general.

A couple more things.

- Ash wouldn't release his Primeape and would use him at the pokemon league and gym battles.

- All of the Johto, Hoenn and Unova elite four would appear in the anime.

- The GS ball storyline would be finished. Idk if it's redundant with the fourth movie, it deserved a conclusion.

- Serena would become a sky trainer and use Braixen to fly on her broom. We see that Olympia's cats are capable of levitating for long periods of time with their psychic powers, so it would've been cool if Serena's Braixen learned to do the same, revolutionizing sky battles! Aside from that she would get a fletchling to be a part of her team. Sky battles can take place in different locations with different obstacles (such as a forest with very high trees or at the top of a snowy mountain) to make it more challenging and creative. She would have to collect at least three sky symbols to participate in a major event like the pokemon league (but for sky battlers).

- In horizons Roy would be a shy boy. Liko would be more outgoing from the get go.

In general, I'd get rid of Ash around Sinnoh or Unova, and I'd give both him and his companions bigger motivations. Rivals would appear a lot more and some of them would take multiple series to be beaten. Also, time would pass and Ash would eventually fulfill his promise with Max.

For Sun & Moon and Journeys, see here.

For Aim to Be The Worst Finale, see here.

For Horizons, I have some ideas.
  • Liko's goal is still the Lucius stuff. While she can get help on the Six Heroes Battles she has to beat them by herself with a special Empath Attack from Terapagos and actually understand their worries and desires. Her rival is Amethio obviously who beats her many times.
  • Roy's goal is still Rayquaza but in order to get to him he has to beat 5 Dragon Clan Masters around the world. Nemona appears a lot more and it's his main rival and they bicker a lot but at the end learn to respect each other. Nemona travels with Penny (becoming a introverted/extroverted duo) and her rich family pays for the trips.
  • Dot's more or less the same though she is reprimanded more for her disrespectful attitudes at the beginning of the series. She also interacts more with Penny.
  • Tera Training takes place earlier, right after the Diana's castle battle, and would have at least an episode about Kofu & Tulip. It would end with a 5 episode arc of the group entering Area Zero and seeing an adaptation of Arven's story. It would end with Friede and Geeta battling Koraidon and Miraidon but at the end they run away.
  • The first Rayquaza battle would definitely not take place in Area Zero but in Sky Pillar and Roy would have to beat Nemona first and then would battle alongside Liko to catch Rayquaza.
  • The timeskip is 2 years instead of one. After it would be revealed that Roy ended up 8th place in the Kalos League and Liko 16th on the Kanto League. Dot would have completed the Island Challenge of Alola (leaving ambiguous whether she participated in the league or not). Before the timeskip they would have 4 Pokemon, and after the timeskip it would be 5 and they would receive many evolutions as well.
  • Ult is the person that beat Roy in the Kalos League and thus is a lot more stronger and competitive having also almost a full team. He started chasing Roy as his father is a former Dragon Clan Master and wants to find out his whereabouts.
  • To give the post-timeskip more structure I'd have the group dismantle 3 Explorers bases around the world where the Six Heroes (including Rayquaza this time) were located. In each base many hard battles with Megaevolutions would await so Liko and Dot would get their own. In the final base, the boss would be a brainwashed Friede, so instead of becoming an astronaut he would become a villain.

- Ash wouldn’t have been replaced at all. Ash and Leon's battle ends in a draw,
replacing Latios' symbolism in that even though he did everything he could,
Ash still has a long way to go to becoming a Pokémon Master

- Ash would still be in HZ and take Ult's place early on as the 4th kid in the RVT

Or alternatively if he still left:
- I would've kept the concept of characters from Ash's anime appearing every now and then early on

- No timeskip in HZ. I never saw the appeal of everyone needing to age

- The first climactic showdown is the decisive one where RVT defeat Spinel and the Explorers,
the remainder of HZ's lifespan would've been dedicated to a completely new story arc.

If everything in HZ happened as it did now:
- Crocalor and Quaxwell would’ve evolved sooner than they did

- After the RVT disbands, Liko and Dot still travel with Roy

- No Ult. Ash takes his place. After hearing about what happened to Friede
and realizing they aren't dangerous like the news said, Ash travels with the kids to help
them put the band back together. After helping out in a giant scuffle with the Explorers
and finding out that Friede's alive, Ash and Pikachu leave the group to continue their journey.
He returns later on as one of the 18 Tera users

Ashnime Era:
  • Like others have already said, I would've had Ash's story come to a close in the DP era and have every other saga star someone new, with his battle against Paul being moved to the League finals and Tobias not existing. Ash would still pop up as a supporting mentor figure for the new protagonists from time to time, though, and he'd still make a triumphant return to the protagonist seat to become World Champion during a milestone era of the franchise.
  • The GS Ball plot wouldn't be axed, with the Celebi movie being rewritten to be purely about Suicune instead.
  • I'd have pretty much everyone use different Pokemon teams than in canon (see here for Ash, who I've readjusted for a hypothetical anime where his story ends in DPP, and here for his companions, just ignore everybody who came after Dawn) to accomodate this version.

Horizons Era:
  • The guardians of Laqua are shiny Koradion and Miraidon.
  • Spinel's hypnotist Pokemon is a Malamar instead of a Beheeyem. Not only because the former honestly fits him way better, it'd also serve to give him a perfectly good Mega Evolving ace from the start instead of the show having to have him pull one out of thin air.
  • Either reduce the amount of Legendary and Mythical Pokemon on the heroes' side or actually give the villains their own Legendary/Mythical army onscreen.
  • Ult doesn't exist. his Mega Dragonite and Sableye are instead given to Liko and Dot respectively. Sidenote: I don't really have a problem with Ult as a character, but I do feel like his addition to the story is rather superfluous as he's just way too disconnected from the main conflict since he clearly only exists to advertise Mega Evolution, but that's something that could have easily already been done by just about any of the other characters who were already there and actually important.

If I were in charge of the anime, Ash would have evolved the following Pokemon that he didn't:

-Buizel
-Gible (only to Gabite tho)
-Palpitoad
-Boldore
-Scraggy

He would have kept Larvitar
He would have caught that Hippopotas

I would have given Serena a few more Pokemon, though I don't know which ones. Same with Cilan. He barely caught anything at all during his journey with Ash.

I would have had Max be less of a mean ass to May in the Battle Frontier arc. It's time for this know it all to behave himself a little.

- Pikachu would get more wins in the Sinnoh gym battles. As much as Sinnoh is considered beloved there's no denying that poor Pikachu was treated pretty appallingly when it came to the gym battles (Fantina's being the worst offender). This would also apply to the mostly awful Hoenn league as well where he was treated much the same way, in fact I'd go as far as to rewrite the entire thing from scratch.

- As mentioned before Giovanni would be the main villain of Journeys considering there wasn't really one and Chairman Rose barely qualifies since he never appeared again outside the Darkest Day arc. It is still pitiful that the guy only made two or three appearances and this could have been the perfect opportunity to truly make him feel like a threat again, building up this big plan to conquer all the regions and putting it all into motion once the Masters Eight tournament is underway. Perhaps he could have even duped Rose into helping him out only for Rose to eventually realise his mistake.

- The show would go seasonal after Horizons ends with around 24 episodes for each arc. If we were to give it around 4 batches then that would mean the next show would last for 96 episodes. Not as long as other series but I feel it would still be a decent amount so that it doesn't overstay its welcome after a while. Each series would start having a completely different art-style to help further differ it from past series (potentially even some well known character designers/manga artists).

- Controversial crap time but Pidgeot would have never returned and instead Ash's finale episode would have had an essential ingredient that was blatantly missing entirely: Ho-Oh. Ash and Pikachu would have faced off against it as a way to show how far they have come since they first started their journey.

Besides the usual stuff everyone talks about (Ash should of released less Pokemon in Season 1, more proper Gym battles), I do feel them cutting the whole Silph. Co infiltration and Celadon Game corner from Season 1's storyline was a mistake. We could have gotten more stuff about Giovanni or the TR characters back then, and they also cut Cubone's dead mother Marowak from the Lavendar Town arc. Looking back, Takeshi Shudo pretty much ignored all the big TR plots from the games back then. Imagine if we got a story of Ash and co. infiltrating Silph Co. in the first season?

Dawn's return episodes in Journeys would have been ABOUT Dawn and not just her being used as window dressing for boring Legendary/Mythical Pokémon crap. Some of her Pokémon would have evolved as well.
The first one did, besides starting her friendship with Koharu, as Dawn was known for battling legendaries/villains in DP and she debuted a new contest dress and told us she was re-doing Contests in Sinnoh again. It's only downplayed by her not having any team/pokemon updates. The second AU 2-parter she got was badly done but the Arceus specials as a huge DP reunion made up for it, especially with Brock and Cynthia being used and Dawn reuniting with Mesprit again and using Mamoswine to help with the raid battle with Piplup, Dracovish and Inteleon. She also had great interactions with Ash in them, especially as it went on.

I never expected the writers to make a huge Contest arc in JN (similar to the Wallace cup or whatever else people were speculating as it aired), so I feel they used her what she was known for. She definitely should of had some new captures or an evolution though.

I would have Ash win the Kalos League and at the end of XYZ he marries Serena. Plus Ash ages up every time he goes to a new region. I feel he should have been 18-19 by the time he beat Leon.
