If YOU wrote the anime, how would you have written Sinnoh?

Week after week, I always seem to be lamenting over the anime. Half the time episodes that should be cool, like that Darkrai VS Cresselia one, turn out disappointing. Badass recurring characters, like Gary, J, all of Ginga-dan, Conway, Nando, and other people appear so unoften that the description "recurring character" is quite dubious.

Now quite recently the episodes after the lake ones were revealed, and appear to be quite pedestrian fillers. As I expressed my woes over Ginga-dan not getting much or any focus at the lakes, some people expressed some sort of happiness for the appearence of filler episodes, saying the anime has had "too much going on" and "needed a break".

This irks me? Why? Because the writers have made most of the viewers so used to the anime being mostly uneventful that some people feel complacent when there's a break in action.

Now with some anime, filler is understandable. Most of it is based of manga and filler is needed to prevent the anime from outpacing the manga. However, the Pokemon anime is VERY loosely based off the games, and the writers have shown that they really can just do whatever they want, except when it comes to advertising new games. Now then, with basically free rein, the writers could probably come up with an overarching story to mix in with the gym quest to make Sinnoh last 150 odd episodes. However, instead, we hardly see Ginga-dan at all, and time that could be used on badass episodes is wasted on stuff like Chingling or Wailmer in the sewer.

So, my question to all those like me who are disappointed with the writers: If YOU were writing Sinnoh, what would you have done? I'll chime in later. XD

Only change i would've made is.

Ash would've gotten Chimchar from the start instead of Turtwig who would've gone to brock, and then get some other grass pokemon like Snover instead.

I really don't know what I would've done except with my own fanfic I usually evolve a Pokemon after the third gym and in quick succession regardless of when it was caught and I would space the evos ten episodes apart. This is of course we are talking about fully evolved team, and because of character's ability in made sense to always have a fully evolved team. But with Ash it would be difficult, the only one I would've hesitated to evolve if it was my choice is Grotle, everything else (not Pikachu) would've evolved fully.

Starly would've beaten something kind of strong like a Noctowl and then evolved, Turtwig would've evolved before the third gym or right after. Chimchar would've evolved after Fantina but before Byron. Staravia would've evolved when it did, Buizel would've evolved next, then near the league Monferno would be the next to evolve. That's if we're looking at a almost fully evolved team. Oh I forgot, Gligar would've beaten something like a Piloswine before evolving, but it still would've evolved quickly.

Of course since I'm partial to Ash, I really don't care about what I would've done for Dawn, Brock or Team Rocket, except give Brock more screentime every other filler episode (where he helps battle with one of his three Pokemon).

I would have focused a lot more on an over-arching Team Galactic plot, making them appear as threatening as they are in the games. Ash and co. could be constantly getting in their way as they slowly investigate and collect the materials needed to create the Red Chain. We don't see nearly enough of them in the anime, and they're the best game villains to date. Give us more of them!

If I wrote DP, I've kept May and Max and replaced Brock with Tracey.
As for Ash's team, I've kept it as it is now, beacause this team works great. Well, maybe I've changed Staraptor for Honchkrow, but that only because I am Dark-type fan and desperately want main character to have one.
I've kept Paul as he is, only if Ash had Honchkrow, I gave him Staraptor instead.
I've wrote JJM off too, and gave more important role to Team Galactic and Hunter J.
As for May's team, I've kept it as it was in Wallace cup, with three exceptions: evolve Eevee into Leafeon instead of Glaceon, evolve Munchlax (simply for fun  ) and kept Squirtle as it was.
As for Tracey, since he's sidekick, his team is not that important, but I still gave him two Sinnoh Pokémon and leave both Venonat and Marill off.

Why in the world is it so popular to hate DP lately? Some people expect way too much. Are you guys reading DPA? It needs a bigger fanbase anyway.

I'd definitely have had Dawn keep Ambipom.
This. Seriously.

Aside from that and the occasional bad episode (not all of which are fillers, far from it) DP is by far my favorite series so far. Not really much to change, although more focus on Team Galactic would be nice; there are a lot of missed opportunities in that department.

...I can't tell if you're joking.

My guess is people are getting back into the franchise because of the HGSS remakes announced, and they're suddenly surprised with how different the show is now from their youth.

I'd also have had Chimchar evolve a bit earlier. We should have had Monferno by Byron, honestly.

I'd have Gary play a more important role. Riley would have given Ash a Riolu, which would become a Lucario. Chimchar would be an Infernape by now. Misty would be back. May would be back.

Hey, I started thinking D/P wasn't all that special very shortly after it started airing. XP

I don't think anyone should let me write Pokemon at all, since I'd end up making it movie-dark for every episode, crush the status quo and wrap the whole thing up in the most epic way I can think of in less than 70 episodes.

^Having Jessie and James kiss and have cute children :p

If it was me writing I would have Hunter J show up just a tad bit more. She really is an awesome character of DP.

I would have never introduced Nando(writers should have done more to follow up on him and proves that he exist.)

Jessie would have 4 ribbons by now.

James would have a Tangrowth(just get rid of Mime.Jr.)

That's about it.

Jessie would have 4 ribbons by now.
That and Eteboss (and maybe an earlier Hiko) are about the only changes I'd have made. And even then, they're minor enough that I don't really care.

Seriously, all you people bitching about DP need to go rewatch Jouto to remind yourselves what a real let-down saga is like.

I'd most likely end up doing something similar, so no worries.

I would write it closer to the game story. Keep Ash, Brock and Dawn as main characters. Scrap Paul and rewrite his part for Lucas. Introduce Barry sooner... Stuff like that.

I'm actually quite contented with the way DP is going and its the only saga I ever bothered to watch all the eps that have shown so far. Like ii kanji said, it would have been nice if Jessie had more ribbons by now, and I would've liked Hikari to keep Eteboss. I'm happy with Ash's evos this saga too since they're actually evolving almost all of his pokemon this time(though the one Pokemon I did want to evolve seems like it never will). But, yea, DP's awesome imo.

I would agree. While Johto does have some stand-alone great episodes at certain points, what we have now is a godsend compared to that.

I'm just amazed at to how much the writers improved in their writing. Sure, we still do get a couple crappy fillers here and there, but for the most part I am surprised.

Although perhaps I am speaking to soon, I'm actually getting really concerned about how the Galactic plot is going to end. Giving them only 6 episodes this entire saga (thus far), makes you raise an eyebrow.
