IGN review for the first DP box set!

Well, to be honest, as much as I like the cartoon, I honestly don't see it as having good writing, animation or offering any unique ideas.

It certainly isn't an acadamy award nominee. So it isn't all that surprising that it would get this kind of score.

As always, the reviews are done by people who know near to nothing about the show and are obviously not fans.

Some of the mistakes, especially the "Addie Blaustein" double were pretty hilarious, but really, that review was cotton candy fluff compared to most reviews I see of this show. This one at least was kinder to it. Heck, I'd say it's almost a good review from someone who doesn't like the show.

The usual fare's pretty nasty and refuses to see even the slightest good in the series.

I didn't mind the review. It was fairly tolerant if you get over the whole 8/10 is AA mentality, and for a show of this caliber, 6/10 is reasonable. Of course, IGN are fairly big Pokemon fans (or at least used to be, if the multiple 10/10 scores for the games were any indication), so they would be nicer than most. And yes, it was fairly obvious the bloke hasn't been following the anime for quite some time (Misty replaced by Dawn? Heh heh), but the fact that he screwed up how many original Pokemon there were on a game site with comprehensive material on the franchise is shameful.

So just signalling people before they get all sabre-tooth tiger on the review.

It almost feels like it was written by two different people. On the first page he bashes it, but then he goes on about how great the dub is. Still, it was more positive than I was expecting. It's too bad we'll never get the original version on DVD here. I'm curious what regular reviewers like him would think.

I lol'd when the guy said "Misty has been replaced by Dawn."

Keep in mind IGN also reviewed the Kanto boxset a bit ago, and they bashed that as well.

Pokemon isn't for everyone, but it is still a fun show for fans of the franchise.

... Sometimes I think I might be the only person in the world who watches the anime for the anime and has no interest in the games whatsoever.

Besides the little kids.

I like the games, but I do like the show a lot more.

I wouldn't be in the Pokemon fandom if it weren't for the anime.

I thought it was a good review. He didn't totally trash it like other reviews I've seen. x_x

I also find the games more appealing than the anime, but the anime is still pretty cool.

Wow, that was interesting! He actually gave the show a decent review, lol.

But apparently, the guy who wrote this review is not aware that the original voice actors (who have voiced the characters for years) have all been replaced. O_O

I mean, he couldn't even tell that Meowth isn't voiced by Maddie anymore (WTF? XD). But on the other hand, this guy probably hasn't seen the 4Kids dub in years, so I guess none of this stuff would matter to him anyway. ^^;

The reviewer obviously had no clue what's been going on in Pokemon for years, saying that "Misty is gone and was replaced by Dawn" made that pretty obvious.

Heh.

You don't really know what you don't really know. Someone who hasn't followed the show in years and then decides to watch the newest ones is going to be very confused and get details wrong.

But it's only a review.

the IGN guy said:
Honestly, for all it's a decent kids' show, it's not even at the point where adults are going to be able to watch it for more than a couple of minutes without getting restless.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh wait he was serious.

I wonder if I should send the reviewer a link to the thread here where fans say their ages. The audience here is a lot older than this person seems to think we would be.

hmm i have to say i didn't really like the box set either not enought episodes and it didn't even cover the first gym. I loved a staravia is born excellent episode there and the setting up episodes were rather good but the rest was rather blah. oh one other point i really liked in this box set turtwigs face just before pikachu slammed him in to the tree was very funny.

Ah, I hate reading reviews of the Pokemon anime by random people, it makes me feel bad I still really enjoy watching it at 17. Maybe I just get offended too easily, heh.

I was quite surprised how he was saying it had good animation, though. It's definatly an improvement and battles are a lot more animate, but it's still not great. Maybe I'm just surprised he said anything good.

i am 21 and i still like watching pokemon lots of people here are older then me. as for old people who don't like pokemon they live sad strange little lives so it's us that should feel sorry for them.

Actually, he's not the only reviewer I've seen remark on the animation.

They're probably comparing it to the animation they remember from the nineties.

It's not excellent most of the time, but it's pretty good. xD

Yes, old adults won't get restless watching this. (Makes the adults sound like fussy little kids...)
