Hi everyone, I'm Not a Porygon and I'm from Tokyo. I've been into Pokemon since I was a little kid with gen 1 and it's been a big part of my life for... Well, most of my life! Pokemon used to be my favorite thing ever but then as an adult I grew a little disappointed with the series and I drifted away from it for a few years. I still played some of the games during that time but I didn't follow it super closely. I played Scarlet when it released and then didn't touch the series much after that (even though I really enjoyed that game).

Recently I have developed a big interest in Pokemon again. I have been playing Pokemon Ruby on my Analogue Pocket and I'm re-reading the Pokemon Special manga which I enjoyed as a kid. I have also been watching the anime and playing the card game together with my wife and kids, the whole family is into Pokemon right now and we're going to the Pokemon Center tomorrow! :) I think the last time I went to the Pokemon Center was in 2018, so I'm excited to go again - and this time with my kids!

I'm having a lot of fun with the series again and I'm very excited for Wind and Wave!

Sorry if I make any English mistakes. I lived in America when I was a kid so English is actually my native language but I've been living in Japan since I was a teenager so I often forget words or do this weird thing where my English is structured like Japanese (and often do the opposite also, where my Japanese is structured like English). It can be hard to understand me sometimes. My brain is a mess.

My favorite Pokemon are Porygon, Scizor, Jirachi, and Umbreon.

Hi there, and welcome! I’m still debating on Winds and Wave. I have to hear more about it before making a decision.

I have only been to the Pokémon Center in New York, but I’d love to visit the one in Japan one day. I’m sure it’s a little different!

Thanks. How was the Pokemon Center in NY? When I was a kid I lived in the US and we were only a few hours from NY, I used to beg my dad to take me to the Nintendo store but I never got to go.

Here in Japan there's several and they're all a little different. Each location has its own mascot and exclusive goods. I recommend checking it out if you're ever in Japan!

Welcome to the Bulbagarden Forums!
Thanks!
Welcome my friend!
Thanks!

Greetings,Not A Porygon. Welcome. What would you say is your favorite Pokemon Game?

You're lucky to live near a Pokemon Center! We dont have those here. Do your kids love Pokemon too? If so whats their favorites? Its awesome that older fans are introducing and playing with their kids now. Its truly something very special to share with kids now.

I went when I was way younger, but it was fun from what I remember. I left with a big Reshiram plush, so I was happy about that. I’d love to go again sometime because I’m sure it’s a lot different now, but I haven’t been to New York anytime recently. Maybe someday.

That's a tough choice! For the longest time, gen 2 was my favorite. But honestly I really like gens 2-4 all about the same. But from a gameplay perspective, I had a ton of fun playing Scarlet so I want to say that but the graphics and performance were pretty bad.

It's a bit of a trip. We live in the suburbs of Tokyo but we can get to 3 of the Pokemon Center's in about an hour or so by train. There's some other locations nearby but they're a bit further from us. We're close enough that we can go, but it's far enough that it becomes a special trip. And it was certainly a lot of fun, but with 3 kids it was kind of stressful (especially because of the youngest, who's only 2)

What you said about sharing it with my kids, I have thought about that a lot. Not just Pokemon, but various other things that I enjoyed at their age like Kirby and Beyblade. I still have an interest in a lot of the things that I liked as a kid so it has been a lot of fun to share this stuff with them over the last few years. Now they're at a good age for Pokemon, and Pokemon was my favorite for so long, so this time feels special. My oldest is in elementary school so he can read now, he started playing Z-A a few days ago and I was excited that he picked Totodile as his starter because that's what I picked when I played Gold version as a kid. And then of course he picked out a Totodile plush at the Pokemon Center yesterday so it was fun to see him development an attachment to the character so soon.
I left with a big Reshiram plush

Even the ones around here change over time. Yesterday we went to the Nihonbashi location, the last time I had gone to that location store was 2018 and it was still generally similar but there was a lot that was different in terms of the types of goods they sold and whatnot. I kind of wanted to get some more cards but I was surprised to see that the only cards on the shelves were the starter decks. That last visit in 2018 was before the Pokemon Card boom so I was able to buy a few premium decks, I was hoping to get one or two during my visit yesterday.

I haven't been to the Pokemon Center in ages (It's now Nintendo NYC I think? But you can still see that the door handles are Poké Balls which is really funny.) Despite living in the city, that's nearly an hour away from me. So I feel that lol.
