... yelling at all you young whippersnappers to get off my lawn. And by whippersnappers, I mean those newfangled Pokemans with numbers greater than 150.

I'm a pretty staunch original 152 kind of guy, though I did enjoy GSC enough to consider 251 existing. Anything above that and I think it's just silly. These are all the same Pokemon with pallet swaps, says my mind!

I tried moving on to Gen III but my experience with Emerald was... less than satisfactory to say the least. My biggest gripe was that I couldn't catch my favorite pokemon, Slowpoke, ANYWHERE. And there were barely any of the original 150 in that game present so that I could at least have a nice point of reference.

So this is where everyone comes in. I really do like Pokemon, but I just can't seem to move on. I need to be convinced that the newer generations just don't suck.

... And the point of this is what?

*is assuming there is a point*

Good to know, now please move along and have a nice day.

I was asking people to share their opinions on the generations above II, to logically present an argument as to why I should start playing them, to show me the merits and nuances of the new games.

I was not asking for flames. Thanks for reminding me why I hate gamers.

No one really cares that you hate the new games. You're like half the fandom.

Well, no ones forcing you to play the current games <_<

Well, I was hoping that this would be an illuminating conversation between intelligent parties, but I guess Bulbagarden is not the place to find this. :/

And the whole point of this thread was that I was asking people to tell me why I should at least try out the new games. I can't be bothered with purchasing games that I'm already prejudiced against. It's a lot of money.

They probably didn't fully understand your point.

I think Gen IV excels the third generation in the sense that after you've beaten DPPt, you have access to a great deal of Pokémon from all previous generations. To get even the most common Gen I and II ones not in Hoenn Dex in Gen III, one had to have access to Colosseum and XD.

So, I'd say you should try Platinum. Of course you could like FireRed and LeafGreen too.

Yeah, I heard about FR/LG, but I'd feel kinda... dirty playing a graphical remake.

But yeah, UltSeph, that's the kind of information I was looking for. I'll definitely look into Platinum once I get myself a DS after Christmas.

it's all Missingno.'s fault no one's taking you seriously...

well, R/S/E wasn't a lot of people's cup of tea. but the 4th gen introduced (or at least people discovered) a lot of things, and competitive battling was born... you sound like the type of person who would enjoy that kind of stuff.
I don't, but a lot of people here find it really fun... so if I were you I'd at least go read about competitive battling a bit, get on Shoddy, make a team of some of those old Pokemon and get some help from Smogon aaaaand see what happens. if you have fun, then it'd be worth it to get D/P/Pt and make a real team and go play around in IPGL or something. I don't know anything about competitive battling though, I think it's super lame, but hey, you might love it.

if you didn't like R/S/E that doesn't really mean you won't like D/P/Pt, either -- the former was meant to be a fresh start, and the latter tied up its loose ends and you can get any Pokemon you want after you're done with D/P/Pt. and you... well, you pretty much do whatever you want at that point, haha.

and if you didn't know, there's FR/LG if you loved Kanto and the first 151. that's a 3rd gen game you might like... unless you've played it already.

edit: haha people seriously ninja'd some of my points. oh well.

Aw, that's terrible, you don't call out your friends in public. Let him be, haha. Hazing the newbie, reveling in someone else's misery, etc etc it's all good times.

You do realize Bulbagarden is full of people with the mentality of twelve year olds?
Don't worry, I ask myself everyday why I come on here when 80% of it are idiots, and then I realize, sadly, this is one of the only good Pokémon Forums. A rather shocking thought.

If you want to try it out, then get one of those things that we're not supposed to talk about.

Or just, you know, rent one of the games instead of doing something which is considered illegal? :/

I wouldn't really call it "hazing," since I don't do it to everyone. Consider yourself one of the lucky few. :)

I've got the maturity level of a 7 year old, haha. Doesn't stop me from enjoying a good conversation, even if the topic of talk is meaningless past tomorrow.

Nostalgia goggles aside...

The later generation pokemon feature some of the most interesting type combos, some interesting stats, and basic aesthetic awesomeness. Flygon recently joined my list of favorites, which if you look in my banner is heavy with gen 1 and 2 pokemon.

The fact is that you don't have to use the new pokemon. Some people don't. But at least give them a try. I did. Weavile is now my favorite ice type, replacing the very reliable Lapras.

Nah, you seem pretty smart, or at least, like you could hold a conversation for a few minutes without saying "I'M THE STRONGEST" (No reference to Cirno intended, Touhou fans <3), or calling someone a Noob.

I didn't realize Chikorita was part of the originals.

Maybe they thought Missingno. was a Pokémon? lulz. (It's damn treated like one, or, was in Gen 1).

I'm sorry, I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about.

You know, renting a game. Where you go to a rental shop like Tomorrows World (if you're in the U.K.), a shop which lets you take home a game or D.V.D. or Video for about three pounds and lets you keep it for a week, then you have to give it back.

Or... if you're American, do they have rental shops in America?
