Okay, we need to standardize these things. We did it for the Pokémon sprites (with most recent gen ones at ###.png, and all others at Spr (generation)(version letter) ### (optional: gender, shininess).png.

So I think we should standardize the item sprites, which don't change between III and IV, and definitely the episode images.

The question: how do we? Should we make the items Spr (item name).png? Should the episode pictures be (episode code).png? And how long would it take to track it all down and get it all done?

Maybe..

Spr_(generation first introduced)_(item name).png

But that's just me >_>

I agree with all three. The name of an image should at LEAST tell something descriptive, and also be appropriate.

Should we have something in this policy about images with watermarks as well? That example's got the Cartoon Network logo in it... there's a few others with either CN or Kids WB logos on them too. If we're going to post screenshots of the anime, we could at least go to a little more effort then ripping them straight off the TV set or YouTube episodes ripped off the TV...

Well, the Japanese versions have no watermark... but sometimes it can't really be helped.

If it's all that's available, then the watermark isn't a big deal, but I don't think it should be encouraged at all if possible. Like Zhen said, YouTube is low-quality; generally, anything with a watermark is low-quality as well. Getting the screenshots off of DVDs and whatnot would be the best way to do it, and pretty easy as well (providing you already have the DVDs).

Not sure about the licensing on images like that, either... chances are, if it's on YouTube AND watermarked, the it was copied right off TV, which isn't legal as far as I know (recording's fine, reposting the recorded shows isn't).

The responsibility of getting images shouldn't all be on one guy, this is a pretty big site. Doesn't anyone else have DVD's or something? Getting the screenshots is pretty easy, and if someone wanted to upload a higher-quality one, it would be simple for them to dig up that screen (or a better one) on a DVD and upload it...
...nothing particularly "wrong" with the watermarked images, but if someone, anyone, can get better quality ones...

...but the original topic is the image naming, we should work on that first. Low-quality images are better then no images, but the same doesn't extend to badly-named images, so we should focus on that I would think.

^ Or or orrr screenshot the video and improve the quality a bunch in Photoshop or something. (Sharpen and blur tool being the key. :B)

Nah, Flash is better because then you can just export the png straight from the source.

GREYCstoration is the only tool I could believe would improve the quality of some of the things I see on YouTube. And even then strictly speaking you can't really do more than extrapolate...
