Will you import Diamond and Pearl when they are released?

I really want to import it after waiting four horrid years, but I won't be able to understand a single thing. I was able to beat FRLG without translation thanks to Red version, but I can't do that for DP.... I think I'l just wait and save my cash for the English versions.

Same here, I wouldn't want to buy something that I couldn't even understand. Anyways, it usually just half a year after it's released in Japan that it's released in North America.

I see no point in even attempting it until I can enjoy the game in a language I understand... though I might be tempted to import when it comes to the US.

I need to improve my understanding of Katakana a bit better before I import it but I will be importing it the day it's released - on high priority mail no less ^^.

Of course, I almost have an obligation to do so but I'm also simply dying to play the games. It's also the only way I see me being able to own both versions of the game, and therefore have a complete Pokedex.

I also plan to use my Japanese copy as a WiFi slave on my old DS if they're keeping any sort of Union Room style affair.

Well, people have played foreign-language versions of Pokémon purely by use of walkthroughs, or by memory. I have Japanese Emerald - and I barely read any of the text, partly because it wasn't necessary but also because it's slow to read. Yes, that's right, text spelt purely in kana is slow to read. Give me kanji any day.

I may import Pearl, depends on how much money it is, how easy it is to play through it, and other factors.

Regardless, I am DEFINATELY buying Diamond when it comes to US no matter what.

You don't really need to read much of what people are saying in a Pokemon game... I mean, for one thing the gameplay is more or less identical between games - so it's not as if you're confronted with an "OMGZ WHAT DO I DO?!" problem as you might in importing a new RPG series or even just the latest FF.

Secondly there's no real plot as it were, and it's unlikely that D/P will really increase on it that much. As such, there's no real need to sit and pore over every little thing everyone is saying as a clue over what to do next to advance the plot - all you have to do is beat the gyms and when it comes time to do some of the minor plot details, just follow the character telling you to go into the dungeon and beat a lot of bad guys.

Having the knowledge of Katakana means that you can pick up important names for people, Pokemon and places that you WILL need on the quest but you don't really need any more than that.

You don't even need to understand fully what the attacks are called. If you can even make out a minor amount of what it is, you'd be able to guess fairly easily what you know it as in English. And outside of that, some people would know it simply by the effect or what the attack/accuracy ratio is like. Biggest difficulty there is new attacks, and once your Pokemon has learned them you'll remember where in the list that attack is and it wont be a problem outside of maybe not knowing what it's called until there's an FAQ or something to consult.

I didn't import Ranger because the language barrier would be a bit too much for me to get control of a new style of gameplay and a new plot. D/P, on the other hand, doesn't require any of that. Hence it being rather easy for anyone, even those who don't speak a lick of Japanese, to import and play through.

I played right up until the Cave of Origin in Ruby without having a clue what people were saying. That was the only point I had to consult a guide. Proof enough that there's no real difficulty in it.

But, I mean, I just think games are more fun when you can understand.

Sure, I could easily play though the japanese of Pearl with no problem, but I'll miss reading such things as "What? Munchlax is evolving?" and I personally love talking to NPC's, it makes the game more in depth for me.

Then again, I really wanna see the new Pokemon in action.

But I don't wanna have to spend 50+ dollars on importing it, especially with the Wii coming out so soon.

Yeah, I will be getting a job soon, so I will have more money, so I guess I'll just buy the japanese and american version, I did it with the movies afterall. XD

So, I heard Pearl would be about 40$ if you converted the price from yen,

so, how much is S/H, where is a good site to order from, and how long will it take to arrive?

I think wandering around just doing badges is absolutely 0 fun.

I like the text, the dialog, the feel, I see no reason why I would enjoy the game at all from walkthoughs or guessing.

That sounds abysmal.

I play the games for the plot. I play games for the pokemon. Without language I won't get a single thing. And through walkthroughs it isn't presented in the manner the game designers designed it to be presented.

I wish I could, but I wouldn't understand it at all. :P It wouldn't be that much fun if you didn't know what was happening...I think I'm going to wait until they come out in the US and then buy both of them at the same time, though I probably will aim to beat Diamond first becuase I like Diaruga more than Perlkia.

I think I'm going to import Daimond and buy Pearl Domestically (mainly because my brother wants daimond). I think its good practice for reading japanese because reading in a pokemon game is simple due to the lack of Kanji like in other RPGs and games.

However, if you arn't looking to be practicing (or know enough Japanese but don't care to read) then its probably best that you wait.

I'm looking into importing, but don't know where to go from there. Is there a special place or website, even? My understanding of Japanese is somewhat broken, but I'm willing to give it a try, especially if it will help me to improve.

No, I'm just going to wait the six months or so until the U.S. release. I want to play the game right, and not miss anything because although I can read the kana, my vocabulary and grammar are not up to par.

Nope. Can't read a word of Japanese. Hopefully if I go to Granger Games I'll get Diamond proper cheap (because the Diamond legendary owns - the name's completely escaped my head). Hehe.
