Hey guys so reciently I came across the glitched pokemon games, you know like Pokemon Chaos Black, Pokemon Naranja, Pokemon Brown, etc. and after seeing these on youtube and learning it about it on here, I found it really fascinating and probably after I beat Soulsilver and Platinum i may give them a try out on the computer (or if it's legal probably play it in cartrige form).

so one thing I noticed is none of the fake pokemon, routes, etc. weren't articles in here or if it is here it just describes t hem, it doesn't show the items, pokemon locations, etc. which honestly I think would be awseome if you can add into it if it's possible!!

Inb4 you're asking why, here's a good comment from Shiningpikablu252 on the talk page of the Fake games page:
Additionally, I'm sorry, but ROM hacks and other phony Pokémon games are not notable for their own articles no matter how "good" or "popular" they are. That's why you got redirected. If we were to consider one ROM hack notable enough for its own article, we'd have to consider several other ROM hacks notable as well, which in turn would lead to Bulbapedia becoming a huge mess as one would have to sort canon from fanon.

I thought this was legal to play as long as someone didn't take it and sell it?

Also if you think about it no one sees these articles unless they happen to hear about it from someone/something else. Technically you wouldn't be advertising it. For example, I haven't played them myself, but if there was a route, a city, or a pokemon that was new in any of those, if there was a normal article for each of them, no one would even know unless they played it and wanted the info in which case they'd type it in and it'd come up.

That's just how I saw it, but then again knowing none of it is legal probably isn't a good idea anyways. Sorry about that I wasn't completely aware of it.

The problem is that they are ROMs, and the distribution of ROMs is illegal, whether they have been modified or not (even if they are being distributed for free). There are likely other issues as well, such as a breach of copyright, but that is the clearest.

ROM hacks are also illegal, and we dont want to basically advertise them.
So writing about them is advertising them?Well unless we put a download link or advertise it,i don't think that making articles about them is illegal.

Hey everyone, buy Microsoft computers.

I just advertised for them by writing about them without providing a link.

Basically, by recognizing them in a fashion only used for legitimate games, we are basically saying it's alright to play these hacked games. I'd prefer not to be involved in the fallout from that. I like my job. It keeps the lights on.

This doesn't prevents you from saying ''this game is illegal,so don't mess with it''.

THIS is advertising. If you just gave information about Microsoft computers, you wouldn't be advertising it.

Personally, I'm less fussed about the moral/legal implications and more concerned that it's just a slippery slope of notability. I'm certainly not opposed to general articles about particularly notable hacks such as Moemon, but detailed information about the games? There are a ton of hacks out there, most of which are utter crap, and I shudder at the thought of Bulbapedia swimming in articles about Pieceofpoomon from Pokemon Burgundy, and so on.

I also agree since even though these ROMs have popularity, there is no way Bulbapedia will support them since they are illegal and will only cause too much problems. They are pretty much the same as fanfiction.

Personally I find these ROMs are among the many problems that different types industries are having, because when someone makes a ROM from a product available on the market I find it disgusting. I remember seeing a person play a Platinum hack and I found it disturbing. If someone can't afford the game, they should accept it instead of hacking. But pretty much too many people are idiots. :complain:

What about making articles about only the most notable hacks? And not include any article about the pokémon from the hack games?

But they don't hack games because they don't like the original ones. They hack the games because they want to ''create'' their own games. And stuff like that.

We already have a list of what are probably the most notable hack games, I guess largely so people won't go out and buy them off some guy in a dark alleyway. We won't be including a list of all fake Pokémon, as its too easy to blur with fanon - only the ones that have found their way to the core of the fandom, such as Mewthree and Venustoise, are on our list of Fakémon.

Wait, you're getting paid for this?

You're not?

Couldn't we all. D:

And due to that, being sued by Nintendo = bad plan. I'd rather be making nothing than making negative nothing.

I think hacks and fakemon should really be restricted to their already-existing list articles. If we make full articles for one hack game, we'll have to wade through tons of crappy articles for crappy hacks and people will make pages for their own hacks and ugh it sounds like so much crap that I don't even want to try it.

If a hacked game is super notable for some reason then it gets a section on the Hack games page. Thats it. I am 100% against giving detailed information like routes and fakemon that appear in hacked games. :/
