I know the Indigo series started with season 1 but when was the last show for that indigo series.

according to bulbapedia the final episode in the original series was the episode pallet party panic which was episode number EP081

Pallet Party Panic is technically the first episode of the Orange Island arc. Its also the first ep on the Orange DVDs.

IMO the first Orange Islands episode is The Lost Lapras, because that's the first episode with Tracey and therefore the Anime's Orange Islands cast is finally complete. Brock were part of Indigo cast, therefore Pokéball Peril is still Indigo episode for me.
But, if you want it technically, then first Orange Islands episode really is Pallet Party Panic, because it were first episode in Japan with new opening, Rival.

pallet party panic as i remember uses the indigo opening rather than the pokemon world (oi)opening

"Pallet Party Panic" was the first episode to use the 2nd opening, "rivals", in Japan. The english broadcast held off on showing the 2nd opening until "the Lost Lapras" because they didn't want to give away the fact that Brock was leaving.

The reason why i asked is because i like to follow along the game to the show thats why i asked which season Emerald started

It's also the first episode with new opening in Poland, and i doubt dubbers touched the video. And as one makes sense, debuting Tracey and Orange League...

But why they made it so unclear is beyound me.
