Co-run with @Majin Mew
It is the year AD 2235. Roughly 220 years ago, Earth became too polluted to sustain humanity. They developed the technology for interstellar travel, and left Earth in a massive exodus. They piled into a massive colony ship, designed to find a hospitable planet. For five years, they sailed the sea of stars, until they finally found one. They also found that humans are not the only sentient life.
They encountered a race of beings capable of manipulating an energy all life forms produce. Humans called it soul, the aliens called it ki, although under either name, it allowed beings who could use it to perform feats that could only be described as magical. With enough training, people could fly, shoot bolts of lightning, and reanimate corpses as undead slaves. It was discovered that humans are innately skilled at wielding ki. And the humans discovered that there were other aliens. The galaxy was filled with sentient beings, and it was governed by a body known as The Galactic Alliance. The humans were welcomed into it with open arms.
People lived in harmony. Humans breed relatively fast, and soon, they outnumbered the other races. Fifty years after joining the alliance, humanity had reestablished itself. The leader of the humans in the alliance, Counselor Pierre, decided that mankind deserved better. They had lost their homeworld. The galaxy owed them. He began making alliances with other counselors. He promised them that their races would reign over the others with the humans. In the year 2075, they staged a coup. With the allied races, and humans innate skill at ki and combat, they took over the galaxy. Every race that wasn't with Pierre and his allies became second-class citizens.
A century and a half has passed since then. The Alliance is now an alliance in name only: All non-humans, even the ones who sided with Pierre, are treated as beneath humans. There has been some social change: Aliens can join the military, and even become honorary humans. There are still lynchings in many parts of the galaxy, and law enforcement will turn a blind eye to hate crimes in many places.
There needs to be change. There are still planets in the galaxy that The Alliance hasn't found. Here, rebel groups plot. You are a member of one of these groups. You've received intelligence that the government is shipping a convoy of weapons. Your mission: To hijack the ship, and take the weapons.
Little do you know, that while the cargo is weapons, it's definitely not the kind you're thinking of. What you'll find may very well give you the edge you need to restore the galaxy to what it used to be. You will sail the sea of stars, fighting tyranny in the endless void of infinite space.

Ki
Basically, Ki is the magic in this setting. It's energy produced by all living things. It doesn't always go by ki: Some call it magic, others call it psionics. And nobody is sure exactly what it is. Some believe that it's the energy that lets one create a picture in ones mind, others think that it's powers granted by some deity, and others think that it's mystical energy plucked from the air. However, the effect is the same: Ki can, with the right training, be used for anything: Energy blasts, teleportation. So long as it's not too OP, go nuts.
Technology
If it's in a sci-fi setting, odds are it exists in this world. Faster than light travel is achieved using artificially made living tissue that produces ki. The internet is extremely popular, and social media sites span entire star systems. Hackers can use virtual reality to hack into them, either to steal money or simply look at risque photos. There are androids, sentient machines used for labor (And occasionally partnership, although this is considered taboo by many). Energy weapons such as plasma rifles and laser swords are used by much of the military, although civilian use is quite illegal. However, more archaic weaponry is quite popular, as it is easier to augment with ki. In the hands of a skilled ki-user, a katana imbued in mystical fire can hurt just as much as a laser sword, and is cheaper too. As with ki, go nuts tech-wise.
Races
Though humans are the most common, there are many, many, many races throughout the galaxy. Some, like the Nekkos, are almost indistinguishable from humans, outside of perhaps some fangs and pointed ears. Others, like the Drakken, look like what we would consider monstrous, with lizardlike heads and wings like a bat's. They all have unique abilities, such as acid spit or the ability to shoot web. Feel free to create your own for your character, although saying they are the last of their kind will earn you an immediate rejection.
Rules
-Don't god-mod. Instead of saying an attack hit, say it tried to hit.
Example
Good: Mario ran towards Bowser, and took a leap into the air, attempting to crush the overgrown tortoise underfoot.
Bad: Mario ran at Bowser and leaped on his head, crushing his skull underfoot.
-Don't make your characters too overpowered. They should be strong, but not enough to take out more than one skilled opponent. You'll be able to make your characters more skilled as the game goes on. As it stands, your characters can probably take on three or four Alliance recruits at a time. Maybe a soldier or two at once if you're clever. A veteran will give you a serious run for your money. All of you together can take on a Captain. If you see an Admiral, though, you should seriously consider running.
-Keep things PG-13. Kissing and stuff is fine, but any hanky-panky needs to be done off-screen.
-On that note, use the term "hanky-panky" somewhere in your sign-up if you read this.
-Despite the world being kinda crappy, the mood I'm going for with this RP is a bit light-hearted, with some serious moments.
-While it says near the top that you're a member of the rebels, you don't necessarily have to be. You could be a grunt with the military who is sympathetic to the rebels cause. Or you could be one of the prisoners aboard the ship, willing to do anything to get away from the madmen who have been playing with your DNA like a slinky.

Name: Everyone's got a name. That said, naming standards very widely from planet to planet and species to species. So name your character whatever you like.
Species: What race is your character? Humans are the most common. If not human, include some details about how your race differs from them, and if you like, some history.
Gender: List whichever your race is closest too.
Age: How old is your character? Most anything is acceptable here, seeing as some races have lifespans spanning only a decade, while others can live hundreds of years, barring accidents.
Position: If you're a member of the rebels, what do you do as a crewmember? They don't have a single rank for "Captain" or "Leader". The players need to decide to elect one themselves, or simply share the role amongst themselves. Also, you will need a pilot. The pilot gets to choose what each ship the crew gets looks like, and, of course, use it in battle.
Appearance: What does your character look like?
History: Optional, although it is nice.
Techniques: What does your character bring to the table in a fight? Do they combine ki and martial arts, imbuing their fists with lightning? Or are they a defector from the Alliance Military, wielding grenades and a plasma rifle? Or perhaps they are a trained assassin, with a cloaking device and a pair of katanas? Or maybe an alien who has mastered the natural weapons of their race, firing spikes from the backs of their forearms and spitting acid into your foe's eyes. List three or four "moves" your character has. If your character is skilled in their weapon being just having a general knowledge of where one holds it, that should also take up a slot.
Skills: What can your character do outside of a fight? Stuff like hacking computers, first aid, and repairing machines goes here.
Equipment: What does your character typically carry with them?
Other: Anything else you want to put?
