I found a special treat for those who follow the English dub; a podcast interview with its longest-running script writer and voice actors, none other than Gary Oak himself: Jimmy Zoppi/Billy Beach/(James) Carter Cathcart! It’s conducted by Christopher Niosi (Kirbopher), a fellow voice actor on both the main anime and Pokémon Generations. For someone who does so many voices and scripts for the show, Cathcart doesn’t have a very public presence in real life, so I was so happy to hear someone scored an interview with him! I don’t want to give any more away, but if you’re a fan of the English dub, you should give it a watch!

Longest serving only because of underhanded tactics. Why he gets to still be on the show and be one of the ones responsible for it’s crappiness just goes to show the low standards TPCI has.

Not too thrilled about who is giving the interview (I find Kirbopher super rude and annoying, plus he brown-nosed BIG TIME in the Michelle Knotz interview) and I really can't stand to listen to Cathcart talk about how he botched the English dub for the past decade but if anyone wants to post highlights that'd be great!

Was he the one behind the whole "PUSA is going to keep the entire original score! *keeps an average of 3 pieces per episode for the next 4 years*" thing?

I remember when Cathcart was on the Serebii forums saying falsehoods during the dubbing switch under an alias and Maddie Blaustein joined the forums and called him out on it and smelled through his Bull. Was a great sight to see.
Wait what? Could you expand on this?

Cathcart went on various forums under the name “old guard truth seeker” and said he had “inside info on the dub” and Was saying a bunch of lies and then saying “in time the new actor for James will be more popular than the old one (Eric Stuart)”

There was one post I saw a few weeks ago where Maddie on Serebii (maddiejoan) goes in reply to Old guard truth seeker and goes “oh and be sure to ask “Billy Beach” (Cathcart fake name at the time) about the real truth” or something to that regard and it was absolutely hilarious because it was blatantly obvious she saw right through him and knew it was him.

That was some random PUSA exec who through that out there in response to the huge backlash to try to quiet dissent.

Of course it was a lie and they used less music than 4Kids.

And I watched this video. The interviewer is a total suck up. Didn’t find a single video on his page with any of the 4Kids actors and hearing him talk about the current mess of a dub is ear bleeding.

No, that was Lawrence Neves, TPCi's spokesman who made that promise back in the day, not JCC.

While I'm no fan of the current dub in the least and my sentiments are similar to Charmander4's on things, as I'm sure you're all well aware, I do think for a harmless interview we could all be a little less nasty here towards JCC and Kirbopher at the least.

I'm not interested enough to sit through this entire video, but if anyone watches it and wants to share anything he says about how he writes the script I would be interested in reading!

Nothing important. He just talked about how hard it is to find jokes to write for TR.

They used to keep more than 4Kids, though.

They used to keep more than 4Kids, though.
Used to is not now, though, and the first 2 TPCi dub seasons only kept about as much 4Kids did in Seasons 4-8 averaged out, only during Seasons 11-14 you could argue that (15 was a little below 4), but then Seasons 16-present have made that point entirely void since they now keep less than 4Kids did even there averaged out.

As for his scripts, I'm leaving that topic out of here because this should be a harmless Interview with the man, regardless of my feelings on him over the years this isn't the relevant place to chew his work out.

So, it wasn't a lie.
It was a lie considering at the start, they only kept about the same amount on average as 4Kids did later, no real change on the whole- TPCi being worse about the replacing than 4Kids was in the last few years is frankly worse than a handful of Seasons keeping more.

That man has surprisingly good insight and honesty!

I mean, if you like what he said, that's fine, but...I can't in good conscience entirely agree with that encompassing him as a whole.

They did not keep any more music when they took over the dub and a lot of the dub music was 4Kids’. It was only at the beginning of BW they kept more music and that was 5 years later and only for a 3 year period.
