Iris or May....or both? Place your bets.

I know the XY series is still in its early days, but it's worth discussing.

As we all know, the anime always brings back the female protagonist from the previous series for a few episodes (Misty in Advanced, May in D&P, Dawn in BW), so it makes logical sense that Iris will return at some point during XY. But the upcoming Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire releases gives the oppurtunity to bring back May, something that would have been next to impossible for the other remakes.

Or, indeed, might it be possible for both to return? Each in a seperate arc? Or maybe together?

Please do note, this is likeliness, not neccessarily wants. I know any thread involving Iris tends to run the risk of an argument, so I'd rather it not go that way.

I believe both will come, maybe in the same arc. We know that Iris is gonna be chasing after Rayquaza which can open up the opportunity to show Groudon & Kyogre and serve as promo for ORAS' legends while May comes in to showcase contests.

I rarely think iris will be in XY. Think about it: the Pokemon Anime comes with lots of surprises. Like, IF ash COULD finish a league for once... But I think its a rare chance iris will be in XY. I'm not saying its not gonna happen, ok?

I suppose it's more me hoping that it's neither than not expecting a reappearance - unless there's a dramatic change in Serena's character, I wouldn't look forward to her interacting with any of Ash's past female travelling companions.

If they bring someone back to promote ORAS - I hope it is Max. Let him get a Pokemon like Bonnie has and get excited about Clemont's inventions, etc. And I'm sure Cilan would be happy to teach Serena some better recipes. We already had May's return with her appearance in DP and I hope Iris is training in Unova rather than going around the world. Give her another special or something.

There's no real guide from previous regions because both Gen III and Gen V were rather unique for the anime - the first with four on the main cast, and the first without Brock. Previously you just had the replaced regional female to worry about returning - and Brock not appearing properly in BW is probably more the fact he'd already been there for four regions, rather than not having the male characters return.

Seeing as how the anime has had every Poke Girl reappear the following saga so far, it is likely that Iris will be making a guest appearance (Hopefully with her Axew evolved or it evolving in Kalos). I've liked the interactions between the regional female characters, so I'm interested to see a pairing of Serena and Iris.

Then again ORAS is coming up, thus May and Max reappearing to showcase that isn't that farfetch'd either. I would like for them both to appear (which would be a first for the series). Interaction/battles between Max and Bonnie is another thing on my wishlist. In fact, May/Max vs Clemont/Bonnie would be pretty neat. Is there where I "call" such a prediction?

I could easily see May appearing in XY and even before Iris appears. It would make sense to have her appear shortly before or after OR/AS are released simply due to her being based on a playable character, so she would have more value marketing wise. Plus, there's a pretty easy reason for her reappearance in Kalos that they could use: she was chosen to showcase Pokemon Contests in a Hoenn Festival, much like what they did with Johto. Iris chasing after Rayquaza at the end of her special doesn't really mean as much marketing wise by comparison and I'm not sure if they're really going to go anywhere with Iris chasing after Rayquaza. It sounds more like giving Iris her own kind of special sight of a legendary Pokemon, similar to Ash seeing Ho-Oh, rather than setting up anything for her cameo.

If they keep following tradition, then Iris will most likely appear in XY, although I still wouldn't mind if they broke that tradition. I don't really see much of a reason for Iris to appear in Kalos, but that didn't stop them from doing the same thing with Dawn in Unova. If she does appear, I have a feeling that it won't be for awhile, primarily due to her special airing earlier this year. It wouldn't make much sense to air a special for Iris and then bring her back to the main cast for a few episodes. I'm pretty sure that Dawn didn't appear in BW until a year or so after her special had aired, so I could see them doing the same thing with Iris.

But like I said, I'd rather this didn't sprout into a typical Iris-sucks-argument, and I'm not just saying this as a fan of hers.

Iris is probably a shoe in with may possibly getting a couple of eps, or they could troll by giving iris may's outfit and a mudkip to kill 2 taillows with one roggenrola.

There will most likely be an Iris cameo, then they'll probably show Brendan with Mega Swampert, and he(could) be Prof. Birch's son in the anime, I hope he is xD, he'd appear with his dad and give Ash Sceptile's Mega Stone

Honestly, I don't want to see Iris again XD I think May has more reason to appear since OR/AS is coming out this year and honestly, May was a much better companion than Iris was. Lots of people seem to think May was one of the best written female companions.

The only reason Iris has to come back is because of the tradition of the female characters coming back the series after they left. Aside from that, Iris has no real reason to be in Kalos. In fact, I don't know why she would want to be in Kalos. You'd think she would be training in Johto to battle Clair again, or maybe assist with the Opelucid Gym in some way. It would be very strange to me if she comes to Kalos.

The only good reason I can see her coming back for is something along the lines of a dragon festival, or maybe some interaction with Drasna. All I can say is that if she comes back, I really hope it's with a Fraxure and not an Axew. Marketing should not be a problem this time, writers/directors/whoeverisincharge!

As far as ORAS promotion is concerned, only Blaziken, Beautifly and Skitty are relevant. The latter two don't really stand out.

They're milking it already without May's help, which is ironic since Blaziken rarely appeared in previous series. At least Mega Charizard Y has yet to debut.

More or less my reasons for why I wanted to know the likliness, not the wants. Since practically everyone (except me) hates Iris, I knew what it'd otherwise result in.
