On August 30th, Nobel Prize-winning laureate Seamus Heaney died in Dublin aged 74. He was extremely well known in Ireland for his poetry. Northern Ireland's Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness, has described this as 'a shocking tragedy'.

shame. 'death of a naturalist' was a great poem, and his translation of beowulf was good too (well, my quondam english teacher recommended it for her class, and i think she knows what she's doing).

His funeral is in the Northern Irish town of Bellaghy, where he lived with his family. My friend's dad lived down the road from the Heaneys.
