Entertainment Tonight attended the Iron Man premiere and got a chance to speak to Viacom and CBS Executive Chairman Sumner Redstone and Paramount Pictures CEO Brad Grey who said that if the movie does as well as expected, the studio will be looking to release the sequel in 2010.

What's interesting is that The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader has already "claimed" the first weekend of the summer that year (May 7, 2010), but if you look at the calendar, Iron Man 2 could easily open on April 30, which is a Friday, essentially giving it almost a similar release date as the first film.

Oh! And while press screenings did not have a certain scene after the credits, when Iron Man is released in theaters tonight, it IS expected to have it... so, be sure to stay after the credits!

The second one about to be given the go-ahead isn't surprising. And it's nice to have an advance warning that I'll want to wait until after the credits (so glad I picked up on that tip before I saw X3. Was WELL worth it). Really looking forward to Iron Man.

Nice to know both Iron Man and the Chronicles of Narnia will be continuing. (I'm hoping someone will actually produce the entire Narnia series for once.)

Unfortunately I didn't learn the stay after the credits in time and wound up seeing X3 twice. It was still worth it though because I didn't notice Magneto regaining his powers the first time around either.

I'm looking forward to a lot of movies this year. Iron Man, Get Smart, Speed Racer, Star Trek, and others. I'm with my mom, they need to make a good Johny Quest Movie (though knowing movies based on H-B series it would suck).

It's good to know I'll have more to look forward to in 2010.

Our school paper also said the main actors for Iron Man were already fully committed for two sequels, including the one you've mentioned. It didn't list specific dates, but said we can expect them in the next two years.

If they can do it for the Harry Potter Series, I don't think completing Narnia will be too difficult considering it's successful start.

Epics are all the rage I hear as they are $equel-iciou$.

Yeah, that seems to be fairly standard with the comic book films. That way, if it's a success, they have a cast locked in for the rest of the trilogy (since that's the standard of success). If it's not, they can just dump the contracts and either start fresh or not do anything at all (see Hulk/Incredible Hulk for proof of this). It's a rather smart move by...whoever does the contracts (producers, studio...not sure).

I only found out because I saw a news piece for X3 on one of the comic news sites I go to that mentioned "fans might want to stay through credits" in its article description. And, in the theater, seemed that almost exactly half the people stayed through the credits. And they all seemed happy they did. It's a rather smart concept to keep people through the credits and, possibly, to get them to see it again.
