A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.

Am I the only one who thinks that this fits America today?
centralization of authority under a dictator: check
stringent socioeconomic controls: check, especially recently
suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship: check, gotta love Fox Security
typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism: check

By definition America is a fascist state. This is what Bush and his republican buddies have created.

Discuss.

Ow. My head. America is NOT A FASCIST STATE. The democrats are in NO WAY CENSORED OR prevented from doing ANYTHING. This is, despite some policies, NOT a racist state, and nationalism is only applied by the biggest douches in the country (see: Bill O'Reilly, John Gibson, etc.).

Bush = DICK. Dick = DICK. America =/= fascist state. I'M more of a fascist than America is. Hell, I live an area that outlawed gay marriage and, despite the VOTERS making it illegal, is trying to RE-LEGALIZE COCKFIGHTING. America may do some fucked up stuff, but we are NOT A FASCIST STATE.

Wow.

You know something, I'm pretty disgusted with some of America's policies and I'm not exactly optimistic about its future, but you seem to take it to the extreme.

If America was fascist, you, me, or GrnMarvel wouldn't be posting right now, the Patriot Act have been renewed without any compromise by the Democrats, and we wouldn't be able to make fun of Dick Cheney shooting someone with a shotgun.

Fascism has already been defined by the actions of Hitler, Stalin, and Pol Pot. Don't tell me we're redefining Fascism just so we can call the incumbent president names.

I said by diffenition. We're not 30's Italy. However, how Bush is operating this country is at least with Fascist tendancies.

EDIT: Let me try to explain. At the core of the Bush Administration, they are operating under a fascist policy. Eh...forget it. We're on the course towards fascism.

They are NOT operating under a fascist policy. They're operating under an "oppression through fear" policy (at worst).

Isn't fascism "oppression through fear"? If not then I concede.

We're trending towards it, but you can't say we're an absolutist state by any means. The Democrats are just pansies.

I think that's why I'm thinking this. Democrats need to do something. Maybe with the majority they will show is a democracy.

I think we're trending towards it and have some policies that are clearly facist policies.

That's one part, but not all of it. I think we could very easily slip into it, but we HAVEN'T. I think there ARE some people in the Senate (Frist) who WOULD work towards making this a fascist state, but the MAJORITY are not. And I think AT LEAST 8 out of 9 Supreme Court judges would work against any fascist moves.

What I'm afraid of is that those against won't do anything. The fact Feingold is being allowed to twist in the wind by fellow Democrats who know he's right is sickening. What's the saying "Evil prevails when good people do nothing". Stand up and be counted Democrats.

Sigh. Feingold's trying censure. Someone else (can't remember who) has already tried impeachment. NEITHER have been massively backed. Why? Because they stand NO CHANCE OF SUCCESS. Why go down with a burning ship? Live to fight another day is what I say.

Because it's the moral thing to do. As well as supporting them could gain the support of some Republicans. And simple, because it makes my stomach turn that people turn in their spine when they enter the capitol building these days. They're job isn't to watch their ass all day, it's to stand for their people. And what Bush is doing is hurting those people and yet they standby and let it happen.

Are there any polls detailing support for censure/impeachment?

You know when Bush is doing badly when even the conservitive slanted poles aren't going his way. And yet he operates as if it means nothing.

"HEIL BUSH!"

We're not a facist state. In fact, we're "One of the best countries in the world".

Be glad you're not in Tailand. My dad went there (He was in the Navy for 21 years as a dentist) and prostitutes ran up to him a lot, begging him for their services so they could get money.

Or, 1933-45 Germany. You either had to become a Nazi, or be killed. That is, if you were "Ayran".

We're even better than various islands (eg. Bahamas). The most, if not, only money they get is from Tourists.

Despite all the screwed up stuff going on in our country, I bet there could be things in other countries that could be a lot worse.

And you know what pisses me off? People who immediatley say, "Only in America" in a topic discussing a wacky news story. I have a favor to ask: SHUT THE FUCK UP plz. You obviously have nothing better to say. You think you're sooooooo kewl with your country, and when you see a country having a hard time, you just rub it in. I bet things have happened in your own land that are much worse.

And if Bush WAS a dictator, than he would kill everyone who doesn't agree with him and more than half of America's population would be dead. Now Hitler and Stalin, now THOSE are dictators.
