Is Ash just a nickname?

I've seen "Ashton Ketchum" countless times. Has this ever been confirmed to be Ash's full name?

Ah, one more thing. Satoshi's birthday is (said to be) Feb. 29th, but has Ash's ever been stated? As far as I can remember, it hasn't, but....

(....See? Not all of my posts are big long rants. *shot*)

I don't think it's ever been confirmed that his real name is "Ashton," which is something I've seen mostly in fanfics.

Am I the only one amused by the fact that Satoshi's birthday is on a leap day?

When was that stated? That's the first I heard of that.

Ashton is 100% fanon.

Where'd you get that unlikely claim about his birthday? (Even though, statistically speaking, that is the single most overrepresented day for anime character birthdays.)

Ash doesn't seem much like a Pisces, anyway. He always seemed like more of an Aries to me (at least, Kanto!Ash did). =P

I really hope it will one day be revealed that Ash is a nickname for Satoshi.

But that of course will never happen. :p

It's a fan made name, just like Misty's last name "Waterflower" which fans made up for her.

There was also stuff like "Misty Williams", "Brock Harrison", "James Morgan" and "Jessie Rochester" floating around, right? That was such a load of bull. Rochester sounds too high class for Jessie, anyway. </joke>

Ash Ketchum sounds suspiciously like Ashton Kutcher, which is why a lot of people make that assumption I think. Like how a lot of people think that his last name in Japanese is Tajiri.

I've seen people call him Ashley and Ashura.

I would hope that if Ash were just a nickname, they would have said so already. I'm inclined to think it's not a nickname.

According to Eric Stuart, Harrison *is* Brock's last name. I'd imagine they just didn't have a place to put that in. I'm wondering if it's a 4Kids invention or if NoA has surnames for all the GLs.

...yeah. More of a reason for me not to believe this whole Harrison nonsense. I don't believe 99% of what comes out of Eric Stuart's mouth when it has to do with Pokemon.

I agree with Kthleen.

Personally, I believe Ash isn't short for anything. His name is just Ash Ketchum. ^^

Ash isn't a nickname, there's no way it could be one.

Otherwise, I'm sure they would've mentioned it at least once in the anime.

Anyway, I hope that is true about Ash's birthday. I've always wondered what Ash's birthday would be. ^_^

Well did they not call him Ashley in teh Grass gym ep? when he was a girl.
