Is Ash the primary reason you watch Pokemon?

Everyone has a favorite character of there's. However, at the end of the day, some characters will be liked more than others. Some characters are the primary reason a fan watches the show.

There are multiple factors that play a key role into fans' interests.


For me, I love the whole friendship and positivity factor, as well as wonderful characters like Misty, Dawn, May, Jessie, Soledad, Prima, Fantina, etc. I love battles as well.

I'm an Ash fan, and I can say I do love Ash as a character, but at times what irks me is the amount of unneeded attention he may get, and also the amount of luxuries he gets because he is the lead of the show. I adore Pikachu very much, and it's probably my favorite Pokemon of Ash's ever.

I wish nothing, but success for Ash personally, but I can't help but love characters like Misty, Dawn, May, Jessie, etc. more. I just find them to be more interesting, entertaining, and lovable.

My whole point is, is Ash the main reason why you watch Pokemon? This is not an Ash-diss thread, because I love Ash and Pikachu, but I'm just curious to know, that if Ash were to be absent for 10 episodes a saga or something, would it drive you insane.

Do you watch this show for the battles, the pokemon, other characters besides Ash, or including Ash, or just Ash?

Please, if you can, list why for you reasons that you watch the show.

I don't watch the show for Ash. I watch the show because of the variety of creatures involved (the Pokemon themselves).
 
No, I watched it because, it was a fun show with crazy adventures and Pokemon. You never knew where the gang would end up next.
 
Hell no. Actually, I started out hating Ash completely. And I still dislike him a little bit.

No, I watch the show for Team Rocket.
 
I watch the show for the overall story, but I do like Ash's progression and Pokemon.

Although now his personality isn't as interesting...eh.

It's about all the characters, both human and Pokemon, and their interactions, adventures, journey... whatever else there is.
 
I don't know why I watch the anime. It's just..The Pokemon anime.

I like Ash a lot but I wouldn't say I watch it for him.

I still watch for him.
He's my favorite character ever.
Glad to see another Ash fan here.
I do like other things about Pokemon too.
But Ash has and always will be my main reason.
 
I love all the characters to an extent. Satoshi is definitely one of my favorites - he's so positive, so outgoing, and you have to admire his sense of adventure. Plus, it's fun to watch him evolve as a person over the years, from cocky and shortsighted to experienced and aware.

He's not my all-time favorite character, though. That's a three-way tie between Musashi, Kojirou, and Nyasu.
 
as simple as the question is, it isnt easy to give a decisive answer. so ill give you two

one, i watch it for the sense of adventure, there is just so much crazy funny things that happen in it. plus this is my childhood right here, im 18 and still love to watch this show.

and two, i do kinda watch the show because of ash, because he is afterall teh star of the show, along with pikachu. and i will continue to watch until he reaches his dream (if ever)
 
When I was little,I watched it simply because I didn't have cable, and there wasn't much else for me to watch (not to mention it was insanely epic at the time).

What kept me watching certainly wasn't Ash. At a certain point in Johto and Hoenn, I outright opposed him. Team Rocket kept me interested for a large majority of the time (and they still do today, just not as much as they did before). I would seriously skip all the Ash parts and just watch Team rocket if I could. Also, May's contests were what kept me from quitting Pokemon all together (Okay, well...I could never really quit no matter how I tried, so...yeah XP )

Now, Ash is a major factor of why I watch the show, probably because of his increased interactions with other characters and the developed rivalries in this generation. The pokemon battles are more interesting, and Ash isn't that bad in my eyes. He's one of my fave characters XD

Not that I hate him, but there's the music... and the general plot... and the music...
 
I don't necessarily watch it for him. He is an integral part of the show, but not integral to the enjoyment of it. I like seeing the pokemon, the battles, all the funny little moments. Even the contests were interesting if they want to continue that. Is Ash necessary for all that? Not really, but I still can't imagine the show without him.
 
Ash is one of the reasons I don't watch as much anymore, honestly.

He's not the lovable idiot he was back in the earlier seasons, I loved that. Now he just seems kinda... dull, bland, and predictable.

anyways id like to add more to what i said earlier. it seems like no matter what, i just cant despise this show. the show is just a great indicator of the Pokemon world, even though some crucial things are left unmentioned or avoided. the show just seems to be an even bigger success than when its humble beginnings. animation got better? the writing? don't know.
 
He's one of the reasons as I really like his developpement, his growth as a character, but he's not the main reason. Altough he and Dawn both have this ability to make me care. I want them to succeed and do good and they're pretty much the only characters that make me feel that way on pokémon. (May too to a lesser extent)

The pokémon themselves, their personality, their interactions with one another and with their trainer are the main reason. Also, main girl doing something and having a real storyline of her own in the last two sagas has really added to the quality of the show.

The battles/contests are great and keep me hooked too, they feel great and organic as of late, they keep getting better.

Ash and Dawn's friendship with each other and both of their respective rivalries have also gotten me hooked.
 
Well, the prime reason I even consider watching Pokemon in the 1st place was because of simple boredom. After that, the reason was because of Satoshi/Ash, Pikachu, these Pokemon and pretty much the show itself. Kanto + Orange filler Island was all right, Johto bored me to death, Hoenn bored me less but wasn't enough fuel for me to be excited until Battle Frontier came into the picture, and it took a decade like Sinnou to excite me again because there are 2 main stars to add more decent quality to the PKM series.

It's still a shame that even Sinnou wasn't given as much development as I hoped but it did not get boring leading on like Johto and Hoenn did towards me since it felt closer to the DS games.

Still, I voted yes simply because Sato was 1 of the reasons I still watch PKM, watching how he develops. I do not end the viewing until I see it to the end.
 
Satoshi and his quest to become a Pokemon Master is what I was originally interested in when I first started watching the show. But the more I watched, the more I loved Rockets, and they quickly became my favorite characters.

Even though I go on about the TRio a lot, Satoshi is still a close second to them. And if for whatever reason the TRio left the show and Satoshi remained, I'd most definitely keep watching.
 
While Ash is my favourite character, I don't watch the anime just for him. It's the bonds between trainer and pokemon that keep me hooked on the show and his friendship with Dawn is what made me really love DP (aside from the general improvements with the plot, pacing and all)
