I'm doing a DP marathon and I'm up to the episode where he comes in. What do you guys think of him and his "rivalry" with Ash?

Conway and Ash do not have a rivalry.
Him being in the league is simply better then introducing a COTD.

Thing is, he isn't a rival. But he and Ash battling is sure to be fun.

His interactions in the league also give Dawn a bit more purpose then mere cheering so that is good as well.

They arent rivals. Conway is a supporting character. They are just rivals during the match.

Well. Conway happened to be a supporting character. Though he will battle Ash in the third round of the Sinnoh League. Those two don't have a rivalry.

As a character I really like him because he's entertaining and also his battling style his different, includes a lot of strategy.

As a rival... yeah I agree he wasn't that rivaly to begin with...

No, he's not a good rival. He's just a random guy that appears in several episodes. Conway wins by anticipating what his opponents are going to do and then planning out a good strategy before the match. Ash wins by reading his oppoenent's strategy during the match. So basically, what takes Conway days to figure out (how to win a match), takes Ash about a minute. It's really no contest.

Conways a funny character but for a rival of Ash was just out of the blue.
There was maybe one sign that there could be a rivalry and that was when he said of course either way you look at it Ash is the enemy. I don't even know if that was dubbed added or not. I think some one said it was pretty much like that in Japan though. Still, should at least be an intresting battle and he has been pretty funny in the league so far.

I think he actually said that Ash isn't the enemy. I'll have to look it up.

I like Conway a lot, he's like a deflated version of Harley. Nowhere near as funny but still a great rival, and his Crush on Dawn Is funny, if not pervy.

It's cool to watch him battle and spectate, but otherwise, he's an incredibly boring character. He was completely wasted in the summer school arc and so far he's been practically invisible in the Sinnoh League.

I don't get his appeal to be honest.

He's like the best male supporting character in teh world! :p

I love his stalker personality and his crush on Dawn. HeatTagShipping FTW!!!!

But it makes me wonder how Conway would've been done if he was actually one of Ash's rivals...

Wait, they aren't rivals? I thought they would eventually build him up to be "rivals" ala Nando since Ash fights him in the League.

He's a one-time rival for the league the way I see it. It was never developed, they never even battled outside the tag competition, last time I remember.

So, you can't really categorize them as official "I MUST BEAT YOU CUZ YOU ARE MY RIVAL" rival...he's just...an opponent?

But no...he's like a COTD that is seen as popular by the fans, so they decide to bring him up every once in a while. He's cool though, reminds me a bit of myself lol, that's not a good thing

Ash and Conway only battled once, and that was during the Hearthome tag battle. Prior to this and even after this, Conway was never really a rival for Ash in any aspect. He was mostly stalking Dawn.
The writers just decided to pluck him from the roots instead of inventing COTDs for the Sinnoh League. Same as Nando.

I always thought Conway should have been a coordinator, given his interaction with Dawn.

His interactions in the league also give Dawn a bit more purpose then mere cheering so that is good as well.

Seconded.

Essentially what everyone else said: Barring the tag battle (which was between Ash/Paul and Conway/Dawn, so it wasn't even a one-on-one), Ash and Conway haven't even battled. So, not really what I'd consider a rivalry. Should make for an interesting battle, but not a rivalry.

On the other hand, I believe that Conway's obsession with Dawn might be considered a rivalry with Ash by Pearlshippers. =b
