This is a thread to discuss whether Gekkouga is getting very exposed or not. While it's pretty subtle in S18, in S19, it's gotten more then any of the Pokemon in the main cast, including Pikachu! Discuss this below.

I vote yes and no. I really do think he has been overexposed however I think they kind of had to - I am highly curious of Ash-Greninja and what it is exactly and how that connection works. I personally think that if they had shown less of Greninja, specifically Ash-Greninja I would wonder what the point of creating it at all was - why make a special Pokemon for the anime, for Ash, only for them to not showcase it as much as possible. I would be annoyed waiting for more insight and information.
However, I do agree that it has taken away from other Pokemon's spotlights and I think a better balance could have been struck in order to make the most of all the Pokemon on Ash's team.

What is that 4th vote option? I even surprise there are people voting the 4th one......

Anyway, including also its preevolution form of Froakie and Frogadier as well, it is certainly exposed a bit too much for the protagonist's second pokemon. That just simply tells the degree of importance of Ash's Greninja, even more important than Pikachu.
On the other hand, it seems that by performance-wise Pikachu is not that important in the XY saga, despite that it is the first ever pokemon of Ash and mascot of the overall franchise. Well in fact, other the two mentioned reason, I personally don't see the reason of existence of Ash's Pikachu, especially in terms of story-plot-wise.

Exposed? Yes. Overeposed? No clue. Overexposed? Seems that way, but I'm perfectly ok with that if it means the electric rat gets pushed out of the spotlight for a few minutes.

btw I like potatoes too.

Overexposed would mean appearing too much and taking up more spotlight than he should. I voted yes and no. Yes, because it's getting special treatment in the anime, something that was almost exclusive to only Pikachu all these years. No, because Greninja was certainly popular when it was revealed even before the games were out, and if he's ranked 1st on the popularity poll, it means people love him and want more of him - therefore, not over exposed.

kewl

For the record, you have to keep in mind Pikachu has actual gotten less spotlight in the gyms, AND that he only has a single filler, and it isn't even about just him, it involves TRio too.

For the potatoes, it was just for someone that wanted either an Other or wanted to do Sunkern stats and giggles (see what I did there?)

Greninja won the recent grand popularity poll, out of all 720 pokemon he came in no.1......people want to see greninja more then any other pokemon at this time, so no, hes not overexposed, the writers are simply giving the fans more of what they like, and want to see.

Even if there was a conspiracy for greninja to turn out as popular as he did, unlike with gamefreaks attempt with zorue, their efforts for this gens mascot worked.

To be fair, the popularity poll happened after Ash-Greninja came, so....
I'm surprised Lizardon didn't win.

OMFG I'm so over this whole Satoshi-Gekkouga storyline. It's been pretty much the only thing the show's focused on in four of the last five episodes , it's taking center stage this week as well, and it's probably going to get more than its fair share of battles during the Kalos League as well.

It's actually gotten to the point where I'm anxious for Sun & Moon to start just so we can stop having that frog shoved down our throat week after week after week.

Yes and No. As a Froakie/Frogadier, it did got much less apareances than Chimchar or Oshawott, and while it got some cool battles and strategies it didn't made much of an impact until the Fluxus battle.

As a Greninja, yes, the writers didn't knew at all how to develop his arc until very recently and thus we ended with a lot of not-noteworthy battles and fillers. And it did ended pushing Pikachu to the side, a very far far away side. But what we got at the end wasn't bad, as Ash kinda got a Mega on his own.

This might be a daft question and I think I already know the answer but has Greninja, as well as it's pre-evolutions, had more focus than Infernape and it's pre-evolved forms?
I loved Infernape and the Blaze storyline but always felt that they could have shown more of it and developed it better. Ash-Greninja feels like a similar plot but much better handled.
However I do still agree that the amount of focus could be handled better, to give Ash-Greninja the necessary screentime as well as showcasing Ash's other Pokemon and developing them appropriately alongside Ash-Greninja.

I do feel it's been kind of forced....

The other team members feel like they're getting the short end, and similar development with previous fully evolved starters like Infernape and Sceptile felt like they where paced better. Even Charizard's bond with Ash, even if that whole thing was forced in Unova.

Enough people, even if they gave ashs other pokemon focus......just wtf are they supposed to do with their screentime? Hawluchas managed atleast one win in everyone of his gyms, and talonflame has a good record as well, probably better then most of ashs other flying types....... so at the very least greninjas focus isnt affecting their win rate, or power. Unlike torterra that couldnt ever win after reaching his final stage, or ashs other sinnoh pokemon that generally lacked highlight moments.

Hell, BW had no mascot for gen 5 to focus on, and actually suffered for it because we were struck with crap like snivy, oshawott, and pignite, whod never evolve because gen 5s starters 2nd/3rd stage designs were garbage for the most part, the later of whichs abandonment plot was more overdone then its typing at that point. Hell many of ashs pokemon still got shafted for crap like oshawott, palpitaods appearance throughout the entire series could probably be counted with one hand.......

Yes, I do feel that Greninja has become pretty overexposed lately. I believe the focus that it is receiving has clearly put nearly all of Ash, Serena and Clemont's Pokémon into the shadows since the past few episodes. Even, Squishy, which is the main focus of the XYZ arc, has been receiving less focus than Greninja. But, I think it is kinda justifiable, because it is up to the anime to explain to us this mysterious Ash-Greninja form, so I would not mind or complain about the writers giving loads of exposure to Ash and Greninja.

Greninja is the most popular mon at the moment so haters who are a minority anyway will have to deal with that at least until the end of XY :p

I liek potatoez but I dislike this Geckouga plot even more. The sooner S&M starts the better as far as I'm concerned. How dare Pikachu not get a special bond form instead?!

...
Not that I'd have wanted that either mind.

Gekkouga stays for only 120ish episodes

Pikachu stays for 900+ episodes

Somehow has more episodes, a semi-Mega Evolution, and a GODANGED arc dedicated to in XYZ

What is this I don't even
