But the announcment page from a couple of weeks ago said "DS".

I'm confused. What do you guys think?

~UPDATE~

“ It's genuinely the best thing I think I've ever worked with. I can tell you that it's got a 'tilt' function that's not dissimilar to iPhone, but does a lot more. We know that The Pokémon Company are getting special attention with it. ”

It will probably utilize DS/DSi features while playing on and having extra functionality for the new DS. Kind of like G/S/C with the Game Boy Color.

And why would this have anything to do with Generation V? It is confirmed it's going to be on the DS.

Like Twilight Princess was "confirmed" to be on the GameCube. :/

We'll see - I'm hopeful for a DS iteration, personally.

Weren't the first Gen V games supposed to be released in Japan at the end of the year, though? I doubt this console will come out a few months after it's announced...

This DS successor could still technically be a DS but with a load of new features, so Gen. V could be on this new system.

I like how that's a Bulbanews page with no information on it. Proof, plzthx?

Also, even if it's true, it'll be at least a year before that system comes out, I'm sure - well after Gen. V will be released.

And it was.

The Wii version was ported from the Game Cube and from what I've heard from people who have played both, Game Cube still win due to spin attacks.

And hey, like every other handheld, obviously it will have backwards compatibility. Not like anything new will be in it.

It's for the DS. Already confirmed. /thread.

^Not necessarily. As mentioned above, TP was for two systems, one of which came out after the announcement. Pokemon: Gold and Silver are worlds better on the GBC but play on the Game Boy as promised. There is still a chance of a cross-platform-version release, especially since it has happened before in this EXACT series.

Well, since we don't have a new system, the games are for the DS. /thread.

:/

All Twilight Princess was on the Wii was a flipped game-cube game.

All new handhelds have been backwards compatible. Don't tell me you people are expecting them to make two (well four technically) versions of the same game. Here's the reason that would fail:

  1. All hand-helds have been backwards compatible. What would be the point of marketing one to be for the DS and the other for the DS2? They barely have any difference between the two versions they already create, what are they going to do for DS2?
  2. If there are already two, and the DS2 is slated to be released late 2010 to early 2011, the DS version's sales would suffer. Then again, Gen V is stated to be out later this year, so that means a lag between the DS/DS2 version which may make the DS2 version suffer since people would have already bought the games.
  3. If the DS2 gets to have superb graphics and features, why buy the DS version? If not, why buy the DS2 version when the DS version exists and you wouldn't have to buy a new hand-held at the same time?
The best scenerio you can hope for is the treatment given to the LoT: Oracle series where they had extra tidbits for being played on the GBA. Then again, there's already the DSi that they can put little extra tidbits for...

That's all I'm saying. There is a possibility they will add features that will also work on the new system. Just like with GSC and being in color. I'm not suggesting entirely different games or even a two version release, I'm saying that more bizarre has been done before than features that only work on a certain console. Think R/B/Y ---> G/S/C and GB ---> GBC.

Doesn't change the fact that this thread is redundant because, well Ryuu says it best

Well, we know it will be for DS mainly, but there is always discussion of other features.

(although until the new DS is announced we won't have any clue what sort of features those will be >.>)

Or if any such features will exist. Keep in mind that these games have to have been in development for a while, yet only recently did the Pokemon Company get the DS2 kit. Therefore, the games were being made for the current DS.

How can we discuss exclusive features when we don't even know what the DS2 is bringing to the table? The best we can do is base it off the DSi

The companies associated with making Gen V have made it pretty clear for the past month or so that Gen V is meant for the DS. What they could possibly do is make the third version for the DS successor, like how they made G/S for the Gamebody and Crystal for the Gameboy Color. And it wouldn't suprise me either if they made the first two versions playable on the successor also.... maybe, knowledge of technological stuff involving games and consoles isn't really my strong point.

Gen I: Gameboy
Gen II: Gameboy Color
Gen III: Gameboy Advance
Gen IV: DS
Gen V: Hmm . . .
