hi all,

I'm just wondering if it is even possible for me to acquire a Shaymin now that the in-store events are over.

is it conceivable that someone would ever trade me one? if so, what kind of pokemon would be a reasonable trade?

I figure I can save my master ball to catch a Giratina or a Palkia or whatever.... are there any better pokemon available in Platinum that would be adequate trade for a Shaymin??

thanks a lot..... he's just so damn cute!! =D

I can trade you like so much it's not even funny.
just give me a bidoof or something I will send a trade request at the Global Trading place.

I still cannot believe people think that the way to trade person-to-person is by using the GTS. What do they think the basement in the Pokemon Centre and the Pal Pad is for?

The way to get it is to buy an Action Replay DS or a Gameshark DS, and get the Oak's Letter Key Item.

You could beg someone for one to borrow for dex and to get the Gracidea in Pt, sure.

Honestly, though, using an AR to get the Oak's Letter event in Pt? They'll be giving it away soon, why waste the time and make your game look hacked (they check those).

I have a legal DS Modifacation(I'm not sure how it's legal but Nintendo said so) Called a DSTT, kind of like an R4. It is a cartridge with a Microcard in it to attach to a computer and download games to your card.

So I have like ten games on one card. Using this device you can also get Cheats, I only used them for

1.Getting pokemon I wanted to train in sinnoh that were only avalible later(like a Pichu level 5 right in the beggining)

2. Healing my self in battles so I don't need to go to a pokemon Center

3. Walking through walls so I Dont have to teach Surf or Fly.

So If anyone wants pokemon just ask and....

I thought you were able to give pokemon in the GTS and someone can seek and find it. and I thought the basement in PC's were for direct links,(if so, thats what I want, I was to lazy to get his code.)

I'd hate to burst your bubble (or Bubblebeam, heheh... okay, bad joke...), but the only legal and legit way to get games for the Nintendo DS is to buy the game itself. I have no idea how you see Nintendo saying DL'ing games is legal, unless you actually DL'ed them from Nintendo... and Nintendo hasn't done service like that any further than downloadable content for the DSi.

Also, even if let's say you really are buying legit copies of the games (which you already admit you're not), you basically already admit that you get the event Pokemon from cheats, therefore classifying your trade offers as non-legit.

I myself own a genuine copy of US Platinum, and of course would like to have a Shaymin of my own, but only through a legit method and provider. It pains me to think that people may actually trade with you not knowing how you get your Pokemon...

It's their choice and loss though, I'll say that much.

I have a friend who has a shiny japanese mew in his box. He got it the same way hundreds of shaymin were acquired. Action Replay, Gameshark, etc. There is not legal way. At all. Actually, if you get one, it's exactly how it would be if you got it legit, but you would not it's not legit. If you want one that bad, then cheat. There isn't really any consequence. Except some people have this feeling they call guilt.

It's not really just guilt, my friend. People tend to look down on cheaters, and collectors out there prefer their Pokemon completely legit, and acquired not through cheat devices/methods.

Cheating has consequences, they're not just apparent, and cheaters themselves are too caught up in their ways to feel it.

And yes, there is a legit way to get a shiny Mew. It's through the Old Sea Map, a 3rd-gen event item, so yes, it's pretty hard to get, but it is a non-cheating way to get Mew.

As for the shiny part, all it takes is some perseverance in soft-resetting, and lots of luck (if you believe in luck), the same way you can get a shiny starter or any other shiny legendary.

All legendaries from all gens can be acquired without using a cheat device/method. It may be a lot harder to do it the fair way, but it makes them all the more sweeter to get, knowing you got them legitimately. You tend to enjoy something more if you had to go through difficulties to get it.

Of course, cheaters would never know that feeling, heheh...

hey all, this is good, I'm learning so much.

I'm not gonna trade with this fellow.

but no one really addressed my question.

1. is there such thing as a legitimate trade offer for a Shaymin? if so, I could go hunt down that(those) pokemon.

2. also, "DJ Pizzle," a seemingly well respected member of this community, says he can trade me a legit Shaymin for essentially nothing. should this seem suspicious? is anyone able to give me some objective opinions of this scenario? =)

3. is that Oak's Letter thing really gonna be made available soon!?!? how do you know?? explain!!

Well, lemme help you with that, with a little help from info we all have readily available...

1. Yes there is. The legit Shaymin trades would be those that either...

...came from Japanese copies of D/P/Pt, which were caught using the event item, Oak's Letter. These would be at Lv. 30.

or...

...given away during special events. Bulbapedia lists several events that gave away Shaymin, complete with what their data would look like when you access Shaymin's summary. The list is a bit long, but you can check them out here.

2. I know nothing of this guy, so I can't tell his true motives. If I just judge the scenario alone though, I would say that, unless the guy's super-generous, this offer may be of a hacked Shaymin, or at the very least a cloned one. I recommend you get more info from him with regards to the Shaymin's summary data, then post them in The "Is My Pokemon Hacked?" Thread, where you can get help determining legitimacy. That thread also has a template of info to get, so you may wanna check out the very first post there, to see what info you'll need to get from the DJ.

3. There's no date set yet for when US Platinum owners can get their Oak's Letters, but I'm pretty sure it would be sometime this year. Bulbapedia states that Japanese Platinum owners got theirs from Wi-Fi Mystery Gift just April of this year, so just give it time.

You can trade for a Japanese movie Shaymin if you can find one.

I agree with this guy. The Japanese movie Shaymin would have this data on it.

Hope that helped. Good luck Shaymin-hunting!

Jima-

thanks so much for your speedy and informative reply.

but, for question 1, I meant to ask what would be a fair trade FOR a legit Shaymin.

like, if I had a ______ and offered it for legit Shaymin, I could expect some takers. know what I mean? =)

Hmm... that's a tough call. I suppose another equally hard-to-obtain legendary, like say Jirachi or Deoxys, would be a fair trade. However, it's a bit hard to give an answer to this because people have different standards when it comes to what Pokemon they would consider worth as much as one from an event.

Take my example: I tried out the GTS in my new Platinum game and offered a Feebas that loves dry food (therefore perfect for raising Beauty, for evolving to a Milotic), holding a Pamtre Berry (which is pretty good for making dry Poffins), and asked for a Manaphy, just for the heck of it.

I didn't think much about that offer until several days later, when I decided to just withdraw the offer... until I connected and saw the trade had already gone through! I actually was given a Manaphy from Pokemon Ranger: SoA! I checked it out and it was perfectly legit, and got it in return for a Pokemon that, though hard to catch for the impatient, was nonetheless completely available without any trading necessary.

In other words, there's no clear answer to that. Try out your luck and offer something you think is worth getting. You might be surprised what people would want. Another man's trash is another's treasure indeed...

whoa whoa whoa, you can trade with Pokemon RANGER players too!?!?

Heheh, no, of course not. PR:SoA has an extra mission available after you finish the game where you can get a Manaphy Egg. This egg's transferable to a copy of D/P/Pt, so that's how you gain it in the regular games.

oh ok, well that's pretty cool though.

see, I also have SoA, but I stopped playing after the first few missions cuz I liked Platinum better. I planned on playing it again after I was all done with Platinum. so that'll be cool.

mind if I ask how you can trade those eggs to, yourself? I mean, I can't be online with both games at once.....
