Is it possible to transfer 2nd Gen Pokemon to Colloseum/XD?

I was planning on buying a connection cable for such matters to transfer to my Pearl later, but someone told me that it was not possible. Could someone clarify whether this is true or false, please?

The only games that Colosseum/XD can communicate with are all 3rd Generation Game Boy Advance games - so that's FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. So if you have one of those, a GCN-GBA Link Cable, and a Game Boy Advance, you can put your Colosseum/XD Pokemon on the third gen cartridge and Pal Park them through to Pearl. No Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/Crystal trading, though. :<
