So I was checking my inbox on my yahoo account today, and saw a video from ABC on the home page. This video was about a Good Samaritan being sued. You want to know the messed up part...they are being sued by the person they saved.

Is it even safe to be a good person anymore? Has doing the right thing truly become a crime?

Er, any details on that, or are you just going to leave it vague?

I've heard of that too. Someone should take a picture of the guy suing, and give it to webser's dictionary to use for their definition of "Douche"

Yes, that is it. I meant to add the video...but something went wrong everytime I tried to get it(should have mentioned that in my intitial post). Anyway, for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, click the link ferrariguy1000 gave and you can see what I'm talking about.

I don't quite understand it. The woman claims that, without the man, she and her daughter would be dead. Yet. . She's suing him?

No, that was used as an example of what should happen when someone is being a good samaritan. You know, the person who is saved should be thankful, and not trying to sue the person who saved them.

The actual case in question involves two completely different people, with a completely different accident.

So then she is suing her after 4 years cause she is saying that she caused her to be paralyzed? Yeah great timing right in the middle of a finance crisis all over the world. I mean how stupidly desperate can people get?

It sucks, but it happens. Sometimes it's best to leave it to the professional. Still, though, I don't think I would sue someone who was trying to save my life.

When I was little I knew a woman in a plane crash, and something similar to this happened. A man pulled her out of the plane wreckage because the thought he was saving her, but she was pinned upside down in such a way that when he jerked her out of position, he paralyzed her. This particular woman didn't sue, though. She was just thankful to be alive.

Many states also have Good Samaritan laws in place to prevent lawsuits.

After this, the california legislature is going to look into making more laws to protect good samaritans. Currently there are none, so the good samaritan in question is still able to get sued.

Actually, California does have a Good Samaritan law. The way it's phrased caused the majority of the California Supreme Court to decide it applied only to MEDICAL assistance.

No doubt, the legislature will make revisions in the text of the law, assuming our dysfunctional legislature can do anything.

You know, it is really just our current society. We are in a society where no one wants to take blame for their actions. Just look at it now for the economy, no one wants to admit to any real fault. So when ever something just unfair happens, we can't blame "God" or "demons" anymore, we blame others.

Sure the guy moving her probably caused her paralysis, but it also saved her life. (Maybe she would have preferred death, but I would think society would view life period being a superior choice to being handicapped.)

I admit, I hate people who live black and white realities, everything in this world's reality exists in gray, to me, black and white realities are delusional. That said, I still side with this good Samaritan, and I think when life sends you bad luck, you shouldn't curse the first person you see.

I know it has a law, that's why I said they will are planning on making MORE to give better protection to the good samaritans. A revision would be fine....but people always find ways to get around those things. That's why we have multiple laws that cover the same subject in some places...just to keep people from finding loopholes and getting their own way.

bell02+: I agree. People need to live logically instead of living selfishly.
